Mickey Mouse Shaped Beignets at Home!

Disney has now gone and challenged our diets by releasing the recipe for one of our favorite snacks at Walt Disney World – Mickey-shaped beignets!

IT’S TIME FOR MICKEY BEIGNETS!!!! That’s right, we’re releasing a fan-favorite classic recipe that shows you how to create everyone’s favorite fluffy fried treat from both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts.

Now, you can cook up your favorite memories from New Orleans Square and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter from the comfort of your own kitchen. These beignets are the perfect snack to eat while watching Disney’s animated classic “The Princess and the Frog” on Disney+. All you need is this recipe, a heaping helping of powdered sugar, and a love for our favorite pal, Mickey!

Mickey Mouse-shaped Beignets
10 large Mickey Mouse-shaped beignets or 2 dozen small beignets

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 teaspoon dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (105°)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar

Directions:

  1. Sprinkle yeast over warm water in a small bowl, stirring to dissolve. Let stand for 5 minutes.
  2. Combine sugar, shortening, salt, heavy cream, egg, flour and boiling water in a large bowl; stir in yeast mixture. With the dough hook attachment of an electric mixer on medium speed, mix the dough just until combined and smooth. Let dough rest for 30 minutes.
  3. Roll to 1/4-inch thickness and cut individual beignets with a Mickey Mouse-shaped cutter or cut into 2 1/2 to 3-inch squares. Cover with a towel and let dough rise until doubled in size in a warm, draft-free area, about 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
  4. Using caution, heat 3 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F in a deep, heavy pot over medium-high heat. Fry beignets until golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes, turning as soon as they brown on one side. Remove with tongs and place on paper towels to drain.  Dust warm beignets with powdered sugar and serve immediately.

NoteThis recipe has been converted from a larger quantity in the restaurant kitchens. The flavor profile may vary from the restaurant’s version. As a reminder while preparing this recipe, please supervise children who are helping or nearby.

‘Celebrate Soulfully’ to Debut in February at Disney World

Beginning in February, Walt Disney World Resort will unveil several new experiences inviting guests to celebrate soulfully at The Most Magical Place on Earth. Coinciding with and extending beyond February’s Black History Month, these offerings honor Black heritage and culture through music, food, art and more.

“Celebrate Soulfully at Disney Springs” brings together several new offerings debuting in February at the Walt Disney World shopping, dining and entertainment district. With jazz-inspired performances, new art displays, special food menus and more, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Featured will be four new art displays inspired by Disney and Pixar’s “Soul,” created by emerging Black artists: Bee Harris, Bianca Pastel, Arrington Porter and Cory Van Lew. Originally developed in collaboration with Disney and Pixar as part of a HUE Unlimited collection of wearable art, the work reflects each artist’s interpretation of the film.

Three evenings per week – Motown Mondays, Jazz Thursdays and Smooth Sundays – musicians will perform throughout Disney Springs, playing tunes sure to stir the soul. In addition, select dining locations will feature special menu items, including Amorette’s Patisserie offering treats inspired by “Soul” and Walt Disney Animation Studio’s “The Princess and the Frog.” Also at Disney Springs, several retail locations will spotlight products from Black designers, artists and visionaries.

Magic Kingdom’s Westward Ho to Close on Weekdays

We previously shared two quick-service location at Magic Kingdom are closing on weekdays in February, including The Lunching Pad and Tomorrowland Terrace. It seems like the trend continues as we’ve learned Westward Ho quick-service spot is also experiencing closures on weekdays.

As updated on the Walt Disney World website, Westward Ho located in Frontierland is scheduled to close beginning February 1, Monday through Thursday. The quick service spot will be open on Fridays, Saturday, and Sundays from 11:00am to 3:00pm.

Hopefully, The Lunching Pad, Tomorrowland Terrace and Westward Ho will reopen on weekdays as crowds continue to visit Walt Disney World once again. In the meantime, we’ll have to find another location for Disney’s yummy churros, corn dog nuggets and Mickey pretzels.

“The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure” Has Opened at Epcot

Via DisDining.com

On February 1 “The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure” debuted at Epcot. It opened in time for Black History Month, but it is not a temporary exhibit.

It is located in the same building as The American Adventure. When you walk in to see the show, look to the far left wall. That is where you will see the next exhibit.

“The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure” features Joe Gardner from the Disney and Pixar film “Soul”. You can read information on the wall, and there are plenty of pictures. There are also a few instruments that were once played by jazz great such as Louie Armstrong and Gene Krupa.

Many people think of New Orleans when it comes to jazz, but that is just one of the cities that is explored. You can also learn about Chicago, New York City, Los Angeles, and San Juan. History buffs and music fans are going to love it!

If you love trivia, make sure that you have the Play Disney Parks App downloaded onto your phone. Part of the exhibit is the Music Trivia Challenge.

Jazz is considered a true American musical genre. Disney worked with jazz museums across the country to develop the new exhibit. While it may not be from the Colonial period, it is still a nice addition to the American Adventure Pavilion.
