Easter Displays & Grand Cottage Returning to Walt Disney World Resort

One of the best parts about the spring at Walt Disney World Resort is the incredible delights our culinary teams whip up, especially for holidays like Easter. This year is no different because, once again, select Disney Resort Hotels will be transformed with dazzling Easter egg displays and delicious treats alike.

These spectacular displays are hand-painted and designed by the talented pastry chefs who put months of dedication and talent into bringing these creations to life. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & SpaDisney’s Contemporary ResortDisney’s Yacht Club Resort, and Disney’s Beach Club Resort are all joining in on the egg-travaganza with offerings for guests to enjoy.

And the fun doesn’t stop there; there are also plenty of tasty treats on the way that will leave guests and their taste buds hoppy – we mean happy! Guests are in luck because we’ve got a first look at some of the bites coming to the Grand Cottage at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa on March 3.

Let’s kick things off with a trip over to the Seven Seas Lagoon, where the pastry team at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa has been hard a work creating Easter egg displays for guests. This can’t-miss tradition is a staple of the Easter season at the resort and showcases the artistry and talent of these cast members. Each has a unique theme and story that the culinary cast member brings to life with their own creative touch. We’ve put together some favorite eggs from years past so guests can get an idea of what they can experience this year! But there are plenty of new ones coming inspired by cherished characters, stories, and treats, like Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Disney Animation’s “Beauty and the Beast,” and Disney snacks. With so many new creations, it’s worth a revisit if guests have seen them before.

But that’s not all for the resort. The team has also been whipping up some delicious items for guests to indulge in this spring. The Grand Cottage is back for the third year to bring to guests a plethora of festive (and adorable) treats they won’t want to miss from March 3 through April 1.

  • Bunny Pop Flower Pot: Chocolate flower pot filled with jelly beans and three chocolate bunny pops (New)
  • Fruity Cereal Mickey Pop: Mickey-shaped fruity cereal crisped treat
  • The Easter Treat Box: Dark chocolate filled bunny, carrot blondie pop, marshmallow pop, carrot cake chocolate bark, confetti pop, and meringue nests
  • Easter Marshmallow Pop: Three large marshmallows dipped in a yellow chocolate coating topped with Easter quins
  • Bunny Burrow Dirt Cup: Layers of chocolate cake, chocolate buttercream, and cookies ‘n cream pieces with springtime décor (Plant-based)
  • The Grand Egg: White chocolate egg filled with jelly beans sprayed in spring colors

The Bunny Burrow Dirt Cup and Fruity Cereal  will both also be available over at Gasparilla Island Grill from March 3 through April 1.

Also nestled over at Seven Seas Lagoon, Disney’s Contemporary Resort will once again be home to its fair share of mind-blowing egg displays. The team here has brought their creativity to the egg to create works of art that will leave guests amazed (and craving some chocolate). Once guests set their eyes on this year’s lineup, they won’t believe that these hand-painted displays are real. Here’s a glimpse of some of last year’s talented creations to give guests an idea of what to expect when this year’s eggs are on full display starting March 3. Much like at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, the displays here also will be filled with brand-new eggs inspired by characters from stories, like “Elemental” and “Hercules.”

Last, but certainly not least, we’re heading to Disney’s Yacht Club Resort and Disney’s Beach Club Resort where these waterside resorts are once again bringing in some truly egg-cellent displays to life this year. The pastry teams at the resort are joining in on the fun and have been working on creating their own detailed eggs for guests to dazzle in this spring.

This year, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will take a journey on the water side with a brand-new Moana-inspired display. See some of the beloved characters and scenes from the Walt Disney Animation Studios film brought to life in egg form. Guests can catch this new creation starting March 3 in the lobby of the resort. Last year, the team crafted a “Finding Nemo”-inspired display that made quite the splash!

Right next door at Disney’s Beach Club Resort is a display inspired by none other than the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival, which can be found just around the corner from the resort. The team has meticulously crafted miniature versions of some of the iconic topiaries available at the festival, bringing a floral touch to the lobby of Disney’s Beach Club Resort. Guests can get a peek at what’s coming here as this creation premiered last year and is coming back again starting March 3.

There is plenty to see (and taste) this spring at Walt Disney World Resort. The adventures are truly endless at Disney Parks!

Baby Elephant Debuts on Disney’s Animal Kingdom

A baby elephant named Corra, who was born last December, has made her debut on Kilimanjaro Safaris at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Savanna has a brand-new and completely adorable 312-pound resident. Corra, a two-month-old African elephant, made her debut today. Her mother, Nadirah, was also born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom making Corra the first second-generation elephant in Animal Kingdom’s history.

Corra will be surrounded by a few familiar faces on the savanna, since she is joining a herd that includes her aunts Stella and Luna, as well as her grandmother, Donna. Corra’s dad, Mac, also lives here at the park.

Getting to today was two years in the making. It all started with the animal care team and our endocrinologists noticing Nadirah’s new behaviors and maturity, indicating she might be ready to become a mom. After some hopeful introductions and a successful courtship, a match was made with Mac, leading to the magic of a second-generation calf at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!

Throughout her pregnancy, Nadirah had regular ultrasounds to make sure mom and baby were healthy. The final ultrasound was planned just a few weeks before she gave birth, but unlike ultrasounds you may know from human pregnancies, our veterinarians couldn’t see the entire calf because of Corra’s size and position. Still able to check in on the calf by feeling Nadirah’s belly, veterinarian Dr. Betsy could feel Corra move and even felt a little kick!

Nadirah voluntarily participated in her own care and keepers made sure she was comfortable every step of her pregnancy. That meant getting plenty of healthy and nutritious treats like her favorites, sweet potatoes, carrots and hay during regular checkups and exams.

With the big day in sight, the animal care and endocrinology teams carefully monitored the final stages of Nadirah’s nearly 22-month pregnancy, measuring the calf’s size, weight and mom’s hormones daily. A drop in progesterone levels was a sure sign that Corra’s arrival was close.

From timing maturity levels and coordinating introductions of mom Nadirah and dad Mac, to observing mating behaviors, monitoring hormonal cycles and the big labor and delivery day – the science behind the birth of a baby animal at Disney is facilitated by an orchestra of unsung heroes who quietly work behind the scenes and go to incredible lengths to ensure the genetic diversity and healthy population of endangered species.

In fact, our animal care team has welcomed a range of endangered and threatened species to Walt Disney World in collaboration with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan. These efforts have helped many species in our care including African elephants, Sumatran tigers, western lowland gorillas, adorable cotton-top tamarins and the elusive okapi to name just a few.

And there’s one more thing. Wait … maybe two. Yes, that’s right, we are expecting two more baby elephants in 2025!

Seeing extraordinary moments like this is one of the many reasons Kilimanjaro Safaris is so special. Next time you’re at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, be sure to take a safari ride and say hello to this dynamic dynasty. And for the latest updates on the elephant herd and all the animals at Walt Disney World Resort, follow Dr. Mark on Instagram and Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment Facebook page.

Disney World Imposes New Ban

Walt Disney World Resort, like any theme park, is compelled to enforce rules and regulations to ensure all guests’ safety, comfort, and enjoyment. These rules are necessary to maintain order and create an environment where families and individuals can have a positive and memorable experience.

Guests undergo screenings and bag checks before entering Disney parks to enhance security measures. This allows Disney security to ensure prohibited items are not making its way into the parks.

Lately, a common rule that has been broken is the dress code. Guests have been wearing overly revealing clothing or “offensive attire,” including clothing with profanity or vulgar imagery. Additionally, guests over 14 are prohibited from wearing costumes except during Halloween events.

One item that is prohibited but guests seem to still bring to the parks in hopes of using is selfie sticks. Disney has selfie sticks listed as prohibited items to bring into the parks due to guests trying to use them on rides or accidentally hitting another guest.

Disney continues to update and change the list of prohibited items to ensure guests’ safety. The latest item that is now banned from Disney is the newly popular Apple Vision Pro, which has sold more than 200,000 headsets since preorders opened.

Recently, YouTuber Mickey shared a video of him wearing his Apple Vision Pro at Disney World. This shows that he made it through security before being told that his new VR headset was now banned at Disney World.

During the video, if you skip to 9 minutes and 50 seconds, you can hear Mickey explain why his VR headset is now banned at Disney World. This product is banned because it is like a mask, which are banned at Disney World other than for medical purposes.

Disney may reconsider its stance on allowing the Apple Vision Pro in the future, but for now, security protocols mandate its exclusion from park attire.

Disney fans who have Apple Vision Pro should be excited about a major announcement “that began earlier this monght on its popular streaming platform. Disney+ subscribers can now enjoy Disney’s iconic stories in a new dimension, courtesy of Apple’s spatial computing technology, at no extra charge.”

While Disney’s official website has not been updated with adding VR headsets to the list of prohibited items guests looking to plan ahead for their vacation and wondering what is allowed into the parks should go ahead and be prepared to leave their VR sets at the hotel before visiting “The Most Magical Place on Earth.”

Splash Mountain’s Replacement Gets An Opening Timeframe

So long, Splash Mountain! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is on the way.

Disney has now released an opening time frame for the incoming attraction, along with a first look at a new Princess Tiana animatronic.

tiana adventure

Splash Mountain closed its doors at Walt Disney World Resort’s Magic Kingdom on January 23, 2023. Disneyland Park’s Splash Mountain closed slightly later on May 31, 2023.

The controversial closure is Disney’s efforts to remove the former Song of the South (1946) theme for The Princess and the Frog (2009).

Now, over a year later, Disney has revealed more details about the Splash Mountain replacement.

First up, we have a new look at one of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure audio-animatronics. That’s right, check out Tiana in her new adventure outfit:

And while we’ve done our best to wait patiently for an official opening time frame, Disney has finally dropped the news!

Disney has announced:

We can’t wait for you to “come join the party” when Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida this summer, and later in 2024 at Disneyland Park in California. For now, I leave you with a new phrase I’ve learned as I get into the Mardi Gras spirit: laissez les bons temps rouler – let the good times roll and happy Mardi Gras!”

So, while we’ll have to wait “later in 2024” at Disneyland Resort in California, we’re thrilled to hear the new attraction will open at Walt Disney World “this summer.”

ultimate guide Tiana's Bayou Adventure

The Walt Disney World website goes on to describe the boat ride attraction:

Dreams Come True in the Bayou:

Join Princess Tiana and jazz-loving alligator Louis on their journey through a shimmering bayou as they prepare for a spirited celebration during Mardi Gras season. Along the way, you’ll see familiar faces and make new friends as you’re brought into the next chapter of Tiana’s inspiring story.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is scheduled to open in Magic Kingdom park at Walt Disney World Resort in summer 2024.
