Elderly Man Arrested, Banned From Disney World, After Assaulting Guest

Walt Disney World Resort is known as “The Most Magical Place on Earth,” and sometimes, it truly is. It is full of incredible rides and attractions, delicious dining options, memorable character meet and greets, and so much more. Unfortunately, sometimes, there are people who visit Disney and don’t care about making magic. They care about making someone else’s day a little worse.

Back in October 2023, police were called to Disney’s Magic Kingdom after a woman reported being assaulted by an elderly couple. According to the woman — identified in the police report as Mikal Guthrie — she was sitting on a curb waiting for the theme park parade to start. Guthrie told police that two elderly people told her they were saving the area for their family, and told her to move.

Guthrie said that she refused to move, and that is when the couple allegedly began assaulting her.

Mikal stated Bruce began to kick her buttock region repeatedly and pushed her towards the end of the curb attempting to remove her from the area. Nancy also positioned herself behind Mikal and began to kick her and pull Mikal’s hair.

Ms. Guthrie stated that she asked the couple to stop kicking her and pulling her hair. That is when a Disney cast member approached Ms. Guthrie and told her that she had been selected to be moved to a special parade viewing area.

Law enforcement also spoke to the cast member, who confirmed the incident, and provided police with a written statement.

Lauren [the cast member] was on mainstreet [sic] in Disney guiding guests to safe areas in preparation for the upcoming parade. Lauren observed an elderly male identified as Bruce yelling at and kicking Mikal telling Mikal to get out of the spot she was sitting in. Lauren then approached Mikal and told her she was randomly selected to go to a special viewing area of the parade to get Mikal out of the situation.

The police officer spoke to the couple in question — identified as Bruce and Nancy Klaff. The Klaffs did confirm that they were holding the area for their family and that Ms. Guthrie sat in the spots they were saving. However, Mrs. Klaff claimed that it was Ms. Guthrie who assaulted her by kicking her. Bruce admitted that he tried to “nudge” Ms. Guthrie out of the spot.

Disney discrimination

It should be noted that Disney does have a guest courtesy policy that says spots cannot be saved. While the site specifically states no saving places in line, it is important to know that spots along parade routes can also not be saved. Many people will put down a blanket or a bag to mark the area they are sitting in. However, the police report does not indicate that the Klaffs put anything down to save a spot:

Please show common courtesy to fellow Guests and our Cast Members by not using profanity or engaging in unsafe, illegal, disruptive or offensive behavior, jumping lines or saving places in lines for others. For your safety and the safety of others, please refrain from running except in designated areas.

While Ms. Guthrie and the Disney World cast member provided law enforcement with sworn, written statements, both Mr. and Mrs. Klaff refused to provide statements.

Based on the information the officer was provided, he found probable cause to arrest Mr. Klaff on battery charges. The report states that he found probable cause that Nancy Klaff had committed battery as well, but did not say why she was not arrested.

In addition to being arrested, the arrest report states that the Klaffs were issued trespass notices. That means that they are not allowed on Disney property for a certain amount of time.

Further court documents state that Mr. Klaff has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. Pre-trial motions are scheduled to begin on January 18.

Beloved Disney World Park Service Finally Returns

It’s a new year at Walt Disney World, and 2024 is bringing the magic back full circle with the return of favored Disney experiences that have been missing since the days of COVID-19. With the promised return of the Disney Dining Plan and the exile of the park pass reservation system (for some), the first domino to fall in getting back to the days of old has happened, hopefully acting as a catalyst to that magical park experience from before the pandemic. Welcome back all day Park Hopper; we missed you!

The Disney World Park Hopper is the perfect ticket option for guests who want to make the most of their Walt Disney World Resort visit. With the Park Hopper ticket, you have the freedom to visit multiple parks in one day, allowing you to experience the magic of each unique park.

This ticket gives you access to all four theme parks: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. You can start your magic morning exploring the enchanting fairy tales and iconic attractions at Magic Kingdom, then venture to the futuristic world of EPCOT in the afternoon for thrilling rides and international cuisine. In the evening, you can catch a spectacular live show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and end your day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where you can encounter exotic animals and embark on thrilling adventures.

The best part, you can now do so without a theme park reservation. That means no more checking into Magic Kingdom so that you can park-hop over to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Although the theme park reservation system served its purpose in helping Disney maintain crowd levels at the peak of the pandemic, its inclusion has done little to avoid confusion and frustration for those visiting Disney World.

But we digress, back to the all day Park Hopper at Disney World. One of the biggest advantages of the Park Hopper ticket is the flexibility it offers. If you find yourself wanting to spend more time in a particular park, you can easily hop back to that park later in the day. This is especially beneficial during busy times when you may want to avoid overcrowded areas or when you have a dining reservation in a specific park.

EPCOT World Celebration Gardens

To maximize your Park Hopper experience, it’s a good idea to plan your day strategically. Start early and take advantage of the extra magic hours, when one of the parks opens early or stays open late exclusively for Disney Resort hotel guests. This allows you to enjoy popular attractions with shorter wait times.

It’s also important to note that the Park Hopper ticket does not include access to the water parks, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, and Disney’s Blizzard Beach. If you wish to visit the water parks, you can consider upgrading to the Park Hopper Plus option, which includes admission to the theme parks and water parks.

As Disney World had allowed park hopping after 2 PM, assuming there was availability at the desired park, this may not seem like good news to some. As park hopping remains a time-honored tradition for many who like to spend their mornings rope-dropping fancy rides at Hollywood Studios, bouncing over to EPCOT for lunch, and finishing their day with “Happily Ever After,” Park Hopper access is a welcome return to what many miss about Walt Disney World.

Although it feels like we’re finally getting back to the Disney World that we all remember and love, it’s important to understand that there are still some limitations, especially for those who have an Annual Pass. Unless the day you’re visiting is considered a “good-to-go” day within the My Disney Experience app, Disney World’s APs will still be held to the rules of old.

This means that if you have a Disney World Annual Pass, you will still be responsible for a park reservation, and you won’t have Park Hopper access until after 2 PM, but only on days that aren’t considered “good-to-go.” Disney World’s website officially holds the following information:

“In 2024, resolve to be more spontaneous with “good-to-go” days for Annual Passholders! As Passholders prepare for their visits next year, we wanted to share more about how good-to-go days will work:

  • On good-to-go days, Annual Passholders may enter the theme parks without needing a reservation (blockout dates will continue to apply like they do today).
  • The theme park reservation calendar, Annual Passholder admissions calendar, and My Disney Experience app will show days that are good to go. The first good-to-go days will be added to the calendars starting Jan. 11, 2024.
  • Good-to-go days will be added periodically and may be released days or weeks in advance.

These are exciting times indeed at Walt Disney World, as your day ticket just unlocked a ton more magic during your next trip. Bringing back nostalgic feelings is a part of Disney; with that, many are celebrating the return of the Park Hopper option by reminiscing the old days. Scott Gustin on X, formerly Twitter, posted a hilarious call back to the old-school Park Hopper commercials, which feature an actual mascot enjoying rides and experiences at Disney World.

With the upcoming return of the Disney Dining Plan and good-to-go days being released starting January 11, 2024, it’s starting to feel like the less complicated version of Park Hopping at Walt Disney World is returning, and that’s good news!

In conclusion, the Disney World Park Hopper ticket is a fantastic option for guests who want to explore multiple parks in one day and make the most of their visit to the Walt Disney World Resort. With its flexibility and variety of experiences, the Park Hopper ticket ensures that you have a truly magical and unforgettable day at Disney World.

When booking your session, remember that the $99 does not include the cost of the pictures. All of their pictures throughout their vacation, along with those taken during their private session, will be included with the purchase of Memory Maker.

Capture Your Moment is a beautiful way to add extra magic to your trip. Get those outfits ready and book your next Walt Disney World vacation session.

New Details About Country Bear Musical Jamboree and More!

We know guests have been itching for an update on Country Bear Musical Jamboree and more coming to Walt Disney World’s Frontierland in 2024 and beyond. So saddle up and let’s get started!

Country Bear Musical Jamboree

Get ready to knee slap and toe tap to a little country twang this summer!

If guests have been too busy trottin’ through the wild west and have missed the news, the Country Bears are getting ready to put on a new show that pays homage to the Opry style shows of Nashville. While the Country Bear Musical Jamboree will include Easter eggs from the beginning to the end including a familiar tune fans may remember, the bears will sing new, reinterpreted Disney tunes in different genres of country music – like bluegrass, pop-country, Americana, rockabilly and other styles. Here’s a look at one of the clips we shared at Destination D23.

To prepare for the show, Country Bear Jamboree will close temporarily beginning January 27 and will reopen later this summer.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Another attraction a little down yonder in Frontierland is also being reimagined, with incredible detail going into this all-new experience.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will take guests on a musical adventure inspired by the beloved story and characters from the fan-favorite film. Picking up where the film left off, guests will join Princess Tiana, jazz-loving alligator Louis and others on an adventure through the bayou as they prepare to host a one-of-a-kind Mardi Gras celebration where everyone is welcome.

Guests may have seen the custom handcrafted weathervane by Louisiana’s master blacksmith, Darryl Reeves, now visible to anyone strolling past Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom.

When guests visit Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, we want them to feel like they are taking a trip down the Louisiana Bayou in a way only Disney can bring to life. The weathervane does just that, and its installation is another important milestone Cast Members and Imagineers are celebrating ahead of the new adventure opening for our guests later this year.

Keep an eye on Disney Travel News as we introduce all the “bayou”-tiful details for this attraction, from new critters to the catchy New Orleans-inspired tunes.

And hold those horses, we’re not done yet. We have a lot of growth and investment planned for our theme parks in the coming years and look forward to sharing more announcements about Frontierland… so y’all come back now, ya hear?
