Mulan Movie Success Could Be Altered By Coronovirus Epidemic in CHina

We have March 27 on our calendar as we gear up to hit the theaters to watch the live-action remake of Mulan. Mulan isn’t only an anticipated success here in the United States, but was supposed to be an especially successful film in China. Sadly, the coronavirus may be altering that prediction. Here are the details below from New Year CNN Business:

Disney’s theme park business in China has already been rocked by the coronavirus outbreak. Its box office hopes in the country could be next.

The company is preparing to release “Mulan” — its live-action remake of the beloved 1998 animated film about a Chinese warrior woman — in North America on March 27.

The film cost $200 million to make and was expected to make a big splash in China. But the country, which is also the world’s second-biggest movie market behind the United States, has been thrown into turmoil by the public health crisis.

More than 1,300 people are dead and more than 60,000 have been infected, mostly in mainland China. The outbreak has forced the closure of businesses all over the country, including cinemas. While some companies have started to reopen this week, many others remain closed. Disney’s theme parks in Shanghai and Hong Kong, for example, have been shuttered until further notice.

It’s not clear when “Mulan” will make its debut in China. Release dates for films in the country are set by the Chinese government, rather than studios, so they are often confirmed just weeks before a film is set to open. Disney CEO Bob Iger told CNBC earlier this month that while the film will eventually be released there, “at this point, we’re not sure when.”

“All of the movie companies that are expecting to distribute movies coming up in China obviously are impacted by this,” Iger said. “The bigger issue on everybody’s mind, the bigger concern, is what’s going on with this virus and how far will it go in terms of its impact on people.”

A Disney (DIS) spokesperson said that the studio is monitoring the situation closely.

Harrison Ford Talks About His New Film “The Call of The Wild”

Harrison Ford talks about what makes Buck so special in this new featurette for “The Call Of The Wild”.

“The Call Of The Wild” opens in theaters on February 21st.

Adapted from the beloved literary classic, “The Call Of The Wild” vividly brings to the screen the story of Buck, a big-hearted dog whose blissful domestic life is turned upside down when he is suddenly uprooted from his California home and transplanted to the exotic wilds of the Alaskan Yukon during the Gold Rush of the 1890s. As the newest rookie on a mail delivery dog sled team–and later its leader–Buck experiences the adventure of a lifetime, ultimately finding his true place in the world and becoming his own master.

As a live-action/animation hybrid, “The Call Of The Wild” employs cutting edge visual effects and animation technology in order to render the animals in the film as fully photorealistic–and emotionally authentic–characters.

Kevin Feige Promoted To Chief Creative Officer At Marvel

Current Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has been promoted to Chief Creative Officer of Marvel. As CCO, Feige will retain his role at President of Marvel Studios, but will now be in charge of the creative direction of Marvel across all mediums.

Kevin Feige will still report to Walt Disney Studios Co-Chairmen Alan Horn and Alan Bergman with Dan Buckley, President of Marvel Entertainment, reporting to Feige. Long lauded as the mastermind behind the wildly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe, Feige is seen as a valuable asset to Disney, so this promotion is not surprising to those aware of the situation.

As part of the consolidation, Marvel Television and Marvel Family Entertainment will be moved to be under Marvel Studios control. Feige had already been given control of the new Marvel TV shows coming to Disney+, which directly falls under his control with his promotion.

Black Widow, the next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the first in “Phase Four”, will debut in theaters on May 1, 2020.

New Trailer For Lady and The Tramp Movie Coming to Disney+ on Nov. 12th

Just hours after Disney+ finished revealing everything coming to the streaming service on launch day, November 12th, Disney has released a new trailer for their remake of Lady and the Tramp.

In Disney+’s “Lady and the Tramp,” a timeless re-telling of the 1955 animated classic, a pampered house dog and a tough but lovable stray embark on an unexpected adventure and, despite their differences, grow closer and come to understand the value of home.

Life is good for Lady, an overachieving American Cocker Spaniel who resides in an upscale suburban neighborhood. Her owners, Jim Dear and Darling, spoil her daily and her neighbors, Jock, an outspoken Scottish Terrier and Trusty, a world-weary Bloodhound, are always within barking distance. But when a baby enters the picture, Lady is no longer the center of attention, and the arrival of cat-loving Aunt Sarah only complicates matters.

Lady soon finds herself alone on the streets in an unwelcoming part of town. Fortunately, Tramp steps in, and the streetwise mongrel is quick to teach her the ways of the world. Before long, the prim and proper pure bred and the fast-talking mutt are partaking in moonlight strolls in the park and romantic spaghetti dinners by candlelight.

Tramp savors the independence of a world without leashes or fences alongside his roguish friends Peg and Bull, but Lady misses the comfort and safety of a family, and soon both must decide where – and with whom – they belong. A heartwarming romantic adventure that seamlessly combines live action and photorealistic animation, “Lady and the Tramp” stars: Tessa Thompson as the voice of Lady and Justin Theroux as the voice of Tramp; Kiersey Clemons as Darling; Thomas Mann as Jim Dear; Janelle Monáe as the voice of Peg; Yvette Nicole Brown as Aunt Sarah; and Sam Elliott as the voice of Trusty.

The film is directed by Charlie Bean from a screenplay by Andrew Bujalski and Kari Granlund, and is produced by Brigham Taylor, p.g.a., with Diane L. Sabatini serving as executive producer.

“Lady and the Tramp” premieres on November 12, 2019, streaming only on Disney+.
