Disney Corporate Officers Zenia Mucha and Alan Braverman Stepping Down

Disney’s senior executive VP and chief communications officer Zenia Mucha and senior executive VP, general counsel, and secretary Alan Braverman will be stepping down from their positions at the end of 2021.

Mucha joined The Walt Disney Company in 2001 as the head of communications for ABC. She became Disney’s chief spokesperson in 2002.

Braverman joined ABC in 1993 and became general counsel at Disney a decade later.

In a joint statement, Chapek and Iger wrote, “Alan and Zenia have made an indelible impact on the Company, playing integral roles in Disney’s expansion and transformation into the digital age while cementing its reputation as one of the world’s most highly regarded companies. Alan, from a legal and regulatory perspective, and Zenia, from a strategic communications perspective, have played a pivotal role in many of the Company’s most transformative business deals, projects, and strategic initiatives, including the acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 21st Century Fox, the establishment of the Company’s first theme park in Mainland China, Shanghai Disney Resort, the launch of our direct-to-consumer business with Disney+, ESPN+, Hulu, and Star, as well as various environmental and philanthropic endeavors.”

Mucha and Braverman’s exits will coincide with Bob Iger’s, who will exit from his current position as executive chairman. He was CEO until February 2020, at which time Bob Chapek took over the position, though Iger took some responsibilities back during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Disney Chairman Bob Iger Sells Nearly $100 Million Disney Shares

Disney’s Chairman, Bob Iger, is preparing to end his 47-year career with Disney and ABC in December, as previously announced back in Fall 2019. He then announced his career end with Disney formally in February 2020, making it all much more concrete. Now Iger has sold nearly $100 million Disney shares prior to departing The Walt Disney Company.

As reported by Bloomberg: “Walt Disney Co. Chairman Bob Iger sold $98.7 million worth of shares in the company, part of what the entertainment giant described as an effort to diversify his portfolio. Iger, 70, disposed of 550,570 shares at an average price of $179.21 on June 1, according to a regulatory filing Thursday. The move cut the shares he owns directly by 50% to 555,865. Iger is slated to retire as chairman at the end of the year, following his passing of the chief executive officer job to Bob Chapek in 2020. Disney’s stock has climbed more than sevenfold since Iger took the CEO role in September 2005. “The value of these shares reflects the significant shareholder value generated under his leadership,” Disney said in a statement.”

The former CEO was previously quoted saying it is energizing to confront “a complete blank canvas.” We’re curious to see what’s next for Iger as we inch closer and closer to the end of his 47-year career with Disney.

The Walt Disney Company Donates $1 Million to Make-A-Wish for “World Wish Day”

As we recently celebrated “World Wish Day”, The Walt Disney World made a special announcement that they were donating $1 million dollars to Make-A-Wish for the special day! The donation was announced as part of the grand reveal of Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Wish, that will join the Disney Cruise Line fleet in summer of 2022.

Disney shares: “To help us celebrate the power of wishes, three Make-A-Wish families shared their stories with us. For these families, the wish of a Disney cruise gave them something far greater than they ever could’ve imagined: newfound confidence, strength, family togetherness, new friendships, and most importantly, hope. We invite you to take a few minutes to hear about their journey and see the joy – and lasting impact – that a wish can bring.”

Did you know Disney and Make-A-Wish have worked together for 40 years now, granting more than 145,000 Disney-inspired wishes for wish kids with critical illnesses. If you’d like to learn more about Disney and the Make-A-Wish program, check out the details at wish.org/Disney.
