New Type C Monorail Spotted Testing @ Tokyo Disney Resort

While the Tokyo Disney Resort theme parks remain closed through at least mid-May due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, operations on other segments, such as the Disney Resort Line monorail system, continue. And in preparation for the launch of the new Type C monorail trains this year, the Oriental Land Company has taken advantage of the reduced schedule on the Disney Resort Line to test the first new train!

Twitter user @peenattsun was at Tokyo DisneySea Station today when he spotted the Type C train testing during operating hours! Previous tests only took place in the late night after hours. Inside, we can see the new Mickey-inspired interior, complete with larger windows. Below, you can view the concept renderings for these new trains.

The Type C trains are scheduled to enter service sometime in 2020. They were previously scheduled for May 21st, but have since been delayed due to the ongoing disruptions related to COVID-19.

Tokyo Disneyland Closure Extended to Mid-May

While the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation initially looked favorable in Japan, things have taken a turn for the worse. On the evening of April 7th, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe declared a state of emergency through May 6th for 7 Japanese prefectures. These include Chiba, the home of Tokyo Disney Resort, as well as Tokyo, Osaka, and others. As such, the Oriental Land Company has announced that the Tokyo Disney Resort closure will be extended though at least mid-May, to an undetermined date.

The opening of the vast New Fantasyland expansion is now also set for an unknown date to be determined later.

This closure applies to both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. The Ikspiari shopping mall adjacent to Tokyo Disney Resort will also be closed during this time.

Guests with unused tickets dated or expiring between February 29th-May 31st, 2020 can have their ticket changed to an open-dated ticket expiring March 31st, 2021. Guests with Annual Passports will have the expiration date extended. Details will be released later.

Events scheduled to end during the closure, including Fantasmic!, Very Very Minnie, and Pixar Playtime were not extended. Ariel’s Greeting Grotto, Lilo’s Luau and Fun, and other offerings set to close March 31st also were not extended. However, souvenir food items and event merchandise will be sold for a short period after re-opening. Details will be announced later. No word on how this will affect the planned Disney Easter event that was set to begin March 27th at Tokyo DisneySea.

The Disney Resort Line is scheduled to continue limited operations as announced last week. The Disney Hotels closed on April 1st.

While we’re very disappointed to see this development, it’s for the best. The safety of Guests and Cast Members is the highest priority, and it’s critical that the COVID-19 situation gets closer to under control. No Disney parks are currently operating across the world.

Full Video From Tokyo Disney Version of Fantasmic Now Available to watch

Last week, the Oriental Land Company announced that special videos of the four entertainment offerings due to end during the COVID-19 closure would be released on YouTube through April 30th. The first batch, for It’s Very Minnie and Pixar Playtime Pals, were little more than 1-2 minute digest videos, much to fans’ disappointment. So we were very pleasantly surprised today when a full video of Fantasmic!, originally scheduled to end yesterday, was released. And it’s pretty spectacular! You can take a watch below through April 30th.

For reference, every show at Tokyo Disney Resort is filmed by the Oriental Land Company for archival purposes. Many of these see releases on expensive Blu-Ray sets over the years. But never before has a full official show video seen an open release until now! Did you enjoy this wonderful goodbye to Fantasmic!?

Meeko Gives A Handwashing Lesson @ Tokyo Disneyland

Now more than ever, it’s important to keep your hands thoroughly clean, so we thought it would be a good time to show this video of the adorable new Minnie soap at Tokyo Disneyland that debuted just for “Very Very Minnie!”, plus a special hand washing lesson from Meeko the raccoon (of Pocahontas fame.)

The foam soap follows the familiar circular mouse pattern, topped with a bow for the fabulous Minnie. “Very Very Minnie!” soap dispensers can be found at the Critter Country hand washing station next to Rackety’s Raccoon Saloon and at the Tomorrowland hand washing station near the Pan Galactic Pizza Port!
