Tim Allen Questions ‘Santa Clause’

Via DisDining.com

It’s been over 15 years since we last saw Santa Claus and his family at the North Pole in the popular Disney Christmas franchise, The Santa Clause. If you’ve forgotten what the story is about, no worries, we’ve got you. The Santa Clause — which premiered in 1994 — told the story of Scott Calvin, a self-centered toy executive who accidentally scares Santa off of his roof and has to take over as the legendary Father Christmas.

Eight years later, The Santa Clause 2 came out, and Scott — who has since embraced his Santa job — must get married in order to remain Santa. Enter Carol — a no-nonsense high school principal — who falls for Scott’s charm and becomes Mrs. Claus. Four years after that, The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, showed Scott having to fight to become Santa Claus once again when the job is stolen by the willful and malicious (or is it skillful and delicious?) Jack Frost.

The Santa Clause Christmas movies are some of the most popular holiday movies Disney has ever done. That led to the early 2022 announcement that Disney would be releasing a new series on Disney+, following up with our favorite Christmas family in a new series called The Santa Clauses.

During the D23 Expo, the cast of The Santa Clauses sat down and spoke about the new series. During the panel, Tim Allen — who is the star of the series and plays Scott Calvin — asked a critical question that you may not have thought of before.

Why weren’t the elves concerned when Scott Calvin showed up as Santa Claus?

The Santa Clause

I’ll admit, I had never actually thought about it until Allen brought it up. It’s a great question. Tim Allen’s Santa Claus is very close to the elves, and in the trailer, you can see that they all get very upset when he announces that he is retiring. If the other Santa was as close to the elves, wouldn’t they be upset when he didn’t return? Even if he wasn’t super close to them, wouldn’t they have at least asked what happened?

The other Santa basically had to die for Scott to get the job, so you would think that maybe they would want to know how it happened.

The Santa Clause

According to Allen, the series will answer this question. Along with why Mrs. Claus doesn’t have a first name. Yes, her name in the world outside the North Pole is Carol, but Mrs. Claus doesn’t actually have a first name.

If you haven’t seen it yet, you can watch the trailer for The Santa Clauses below.

The Santa Clauses will premiere on Disney+ on November 16. The series will star Tim Allen as Scot Calvin/Santa Claus, Elizabeth Mitchell as Carol Calvin/Mrs. Claus, Kal Penn as Simon Choski, Austin Kane as Cal, Elizabeth Allen Dick as Sandra, Matilda Lawler as Betty, and Devin Bright as Noel. David Krumholtz will also return to the series in his role as Bernard.

Trailer AND a Premiere Date For ‘The Santa Clauses’!

It may just be September, but it is never too early to start getting excited about the holiday season. It’s always fun to think about the gifts you’ll buy, the delicious food you’ll indulge in, and the Christmas shows and movies that will make your days merrier.

This holiday season, Disney is bringing back the nostalgia and releasing a brand-new series based on the first family of Christmas — The Santa Clauses. The Santa Clauses follows Scott Calvin — AKA Santa Claus — as he goes on the search for the perfect person to replace him as Father Christmas.

Last weekend, at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, Disney shared more information on the new series, including a premiere date! The Santa Clauses will premiere on Disney+ on November 16.

If that wasn’t exciting enough, Disney also released the first official trailer for the series, which you can watch below.

Here is more information on the fun and festive new series coming to Disney+:

Scott Calvin is back! After being Santa Claus for nearly thirty years, he’s as jolly as ever. But as Christmas declines in popularity, so does his Santa magic. Scott struggles to keep up with the demands of the job, as well as being there for his family. Upon discovering there is a way to retire from his post, Scott considers stepping down as Santa Claus and finding a worthy successor so that he can become a better father and husband.

The Santa Clauses will also star Elizabeth Mitchell — reprising her role as Mrs. Claus — Kal Penn will play game designer Simon Choski, Austin Kane will appear as Cal, Elizabeth Allen Dick will play Sandra, Devin Bright will play Santa’s elf helper Noel, and Matilda Lawler will play Santa’s right-hand elf, Betty.

The film will also introduce a Christmas witch, played by Laura San Giacomo, and, much to the delight of fans, David Krumholtz will return to reprise his role as Bernard — the head elf in the first two films.

Again, The Santa Clauses will premiere on Disney+ on November 16.

David Krumholtz Is Returning For New Disney+ Series

Back in January 2022, Disney announced that it would be creating a new series based on the hit film franchise, The Santa Clause. At the time the announcement was made, no real details were given. However, we now know that Tim Allen will be returning to reprise his role as Scott Calvin, AKA Santa Claus, and Elizabeth Mitchell will return as Scott’s wife Carol, AKA Mrs. Claus. We also learned that Kal Penn will be playing a video game designer and single father named Simon, Elizabeth Allen Dick (Allen’s real-life daughter) will be playing Scott and Carol’s daughter Sandra, and Austin Kane will play their son Cal.

Now we have just found out some fantastic and exciting casting news. David Krumholtz will return to play the cantankerous, but caring, head-elf Bernard. Krumholtz appeared in both The Santa Clause and The Santa Clause 2, but was not in The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause and his character was replaced by another lead elf named Curtis, played by Spencer Breslin. Krumholtz had been in the news recently, blasting Johnny Depp during Depp’s defamation suit against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.

Deadline was one of the first to report on the news, as well as more information on the new series, which will be called The Santa Clauses:

In the Disney+ series, Scott is on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. He’s suddenly starting to lose his Santa magic, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the North Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.

The series also stars Elizabeth Allen-Dick as Sandra, Devin Bright as Noel, Austin Kane as Cal, Matilda Lawler as Betty, Rupali Redd as Grace and Kal Penn as Simon Choski.

Emmy winner Jack Burditt (30 Rock, Modern Family, Frasier, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) is the executive producer and showrunner. In addition to his starring role, Allen will also executive produce along with Kevin Hench (Last Man Standing), Richard Baker and Rick Messina, and Jason Winer and Jon Radler for Small Dog Picture Company.

At this time, there is no premiere date for The Santa Clauses, but we are hoping that it will come out sometime during this holiday season. Disney Dining will let readers know when a release date is finally announced.

Disney Gives Official First Look at New ‘Santa Clause’ Series!

Back in January, Disney announced that it would be creating a new Disney+ series based on its hit Christmas trilogy, The Santa Clause. The news itself was exciting, but then Disney shared that Tim Allen would be returning to reprise his role as Scott Calvin, AKA Santa Claus. Disney didn’t share a lot of details at first, but we later learned that Elizabeth Mitchell had also signed onto the series. Mitchell played Carol, the woman who would marry Scott in The Santa Clause 2 and become Mrs. Claus.

Disney has since revealed that the story will take place years after the original trilogy, with Santa looking to find someone to take his place, so he can retire and spend more time with his family. Now, as part of Disney’s Halfway to the Holidays celebration, Disney is releasing more details about the series and revealing the show’s official name — The Santa Clauses.

Disney Parks Blog shared more information on the series and a first-look photo:

In addition to the Calvin family, Kal Penn joins the cast of “The Santa Clauses” playing Simon Choski, a single father, ambitious game inventor and product developer whose visit to the North Pole makes a big impact on the direction of his life. He’s joined by Rupali Redd playing the role of Grace, his angelic daughter with a love for Santa and all things Christmas.

And where would Santa be without his elves? Devin Bright joins the cast as Noel, Santa’s trusted right-hand elf, along with Matilda Lawler as Betty, Santa’s demanding Chief of Staff and job-oriented Elf.

“The Santa Clauses” is set some time after the events of “The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause” and picks up with Scott Calvin on the brink of his 65th birthday. Realizing he can’t be Santa forever as he suddenly starts to lose his Santa magic, he sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the North Pole.

One really fun fact about this show is that Elizabeth Allen Dick will be playing Scott and Carol’s daughter, Grace. Allen Dick is actually Tim Allen’s real-life daughter! Disney has not told us an official Disney+ release date for the new series, but we expect it to be sometime this holiday season. Disney Dining will let readers know when the show has an air date.
