Disney Child Star Celebrates Two Years of Sobriety

Disney fans were first introduced to child star Shaun Weiss in 1992 when he starred as goalie Greg Goldberg in the hockey film The Mighty Ducks — which also starred Emilio Estevez, Joshua Jackson, and Jussie Smollet. Weiss would also go on to star in the two follow-up films, D2: The Mighty Ducks (1994) and D3: The Mighty Ducks (1996). He was also one of the stars of the 1995 cult film Heavyweights, which also starred Ben Stiller. He would then go on to be featured in a number of films and television shows over the years.

Unfortunately, things spiraled severely downhill for The Mighty Ducks actor and started to get really bad in 2017. Weiss developed a heavy addiction to methamphetamines and found himself repeatedly behind bars for things like theft possession and public intoxication.  After his final arrest in 2020 — he broke into a house while high on meth — he checked into rehab and is now celebrating two years of sobriety.

Weiss has been taking to social media to share images celebrating his sobriety, including two which show him at the height of his addiction and now, where he is incredibly happy and much healthier.

“He’s been doing standup a couple places, so that’s cool,” Gallagher says. “He’s been really enjoying that even though he doesn’t love being on stage without any upper teeth. He still can’t resist. “We’re kind of focusing on just trying to get him back out there acting, he’s still as funny as ever. His comedy material is really on point. Shaun’s been in the game since he was a kid so he can hop right back on screen no problem.”

“He’s super passionate about helping others and that’s kind of the big thing,” Gallagher says. “We’re working on a book explaining our experiences over the last five, six years.”

Weiss lost many of his teeth to infection while deep in the throes of his addiction, but was gifted a new set of dental implants by a renowned dentist and is now in his final fittings.

Trailer Released for “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers,” Premiering on Disney+ March 26th

The quack attack is back! Disney has released a trailer for “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers,” a new series premiering on Disney+ March 26th.

Emilio Estevez reprises his role as Gordon Bombay, made famous in the Mighty Ducks trilogy of films. Joining him are Lauren Graham and Brady Noon to inspire a new generation of fans.

The official description from Disney:

“Set in present day Minnesota, the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan Morrow (Brady Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom, Alex (Lauren Graham), set out to build their own team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of youth sports today. With the help of Gordon Bombay, they rediscover the joys of playing just for love of the game.”

The series features the return of Emilio Estevez as Coach Gordon Bombay and stars Brady Noon as 12-year-old Evan Morrow and Lauren Graham as Evan’s mom Alex. When Evan is cut from the Mighty Ducks team, his mom encourages him to start his own. Evan and Alex, with the help of Gordon Bombay, set out to “rediscover the joy of playing just for love of the game.”

The series will be ten episodes and also stars Maxwell Simkins, Swayam Bhatia, Luke Islam, Kiefer O’Reilly, Taegen Burns, Bella Higginbotham, and DJ Watts. Emilio Estevez Will Reprise His Role In Mighty Ducks TV Series On Disney+

The 10-episode Mighty Ducks tv show coming to Disney+ will have Emilio Estevez on the cast when the show debuts. According to The Illuminerdi, Estevez will reprise his role as Coach Gordon Bombay for the show and will be a lead character in the show.

Emilio Estevez was one of the main characters in both The Mighty Ducks and D2: The Mighty Ducks. His role was reduced to a cameo in D3: The Mighty Ducks due to scheduling concerns, so it is good to see Estevez return to a full role for the show.

A summary of the show reads:

“After getting kicked off the junior division Mighty Ducks team, a 13-year-old boy and his mom decide to start their own team, finding players, a coach, and a place to play,”

Filming of the show is set to begin next month in Vancouver and conclude in early June.
