Please pardon my geek out moment here but this is a must view video of the New Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge @ Disneyland which opened a couple of days ago.
This video was posted on Disney Park’s YouTube Channel. If you are like me and grew up on Star Wars, this is an amazing first look at Galaxy’s Edge.
For those excited to be able to visit Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World, you will have to wait a few more months. However, we can all get a glimpse of what to expect by watching the opening of Galaxy’s Edge at the west coast Disney park in California.
Disneyland will open their version of GE this Friday. Many people have wondered what it’s going to be like for visitors at tis new park.
Disney Parks Blog is giving us a glimpse as to what you can expect and what you need to know before visiting this new Disney adventure.
Remember, if you are planning to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge between May 31 and June 23, you need a reservation for the land, and valid theme park admission. Still need a reservation? Stay at a Disneyland Resort hotel during that time period and your stay includes a reservation to see Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!
Already have your reservation? Sit back and let Disney Ambassador Justin Rapp help you get ready for your visit.
On this blog, we talk primarily about Walt Disney World. However, there are certain events happening at other Disney Theme Parks across the globe that cannot be ignored.
Tonight at 8:20pm PDT (that’s 11:20pm EDT for us in the eastern half of the country), Disney Parks Blog will live stream the dedication ceremony of Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland.
Work has been progressing on the upcoming new Star Wars immersive resort, “Galactic Journeys: A Star Wars Adventure.” (That’s its proposed name, anyway.)
It’s being built on the south side of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The resort will also be seamlessly connected to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the story behind their stay at an interstellar cruise liner.
For now, though, all we have are these walls. The resort project is finally going vertical, with a number of concrete panels installed, outlining what may be the perimeter of the resort.
The hotel itself will feature a basic rectangular design, confirming beliefs that it will be a smaller “boutique”-style hotel. According to the permits, rooms come in two sizes: a regular sized cabin and the larger first class cabin. The first floor has 32 regular cabins and two first class cabins. If the second floor has the same layout, the Star Wars hotel could have as little as 68 total rooms.
No opening date has been set for the Star Wars Hotel as of yet, but we expect to hear more about it at the 2019 D23 Expo in Anaheim coming up in August.
Peter Mayhew, the actor best known for playing the character Chewbacca in the “Star Wars” movie series, died on Tuesday, his family announced on his Twitter page. He was 74 years old.
Mayhew’s cause of death is unclear at this time.
“The family of Peter Mayhew, with deep love and sadness, regrets to share the news that Peter has passed away. He left us the evening of April 30, 2019 with his family by his side in his North Texas home,” the tweet posted on Thursday said.
“He fought his way back from being wheelchair-bound to stand tall and portray Chewbacca once more in Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” the family said, adding that Mayhew served as a consultant for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” in order to “teach his successor.”
“He put his heart and soul into the role of Chewbacca and it showed in every frame of the films from his knock kneed running, firing his bowcaster from the hip, his bright blue eyes, down to each subtle movement of his head and mouth,” the statement said. “But, to him, the Star Wars family meant so much more to him than a role in a film.”
A native of London, the 7-foot-3 Mayhew played Chewbacca, sidekick to Han Solo, in the original Star Wars trilogy. He resumed the role in two more installments, Revenge of the Sith in 2005 and The Force Awakens in 2015.
Mayhew used his fame in support of several nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping veterans and families and children in need. His Peter Mayhew Foundation was dedicated to “the alleviation of pain, disease and suffering,” by supporting other charitable organizations.
Tweets from co-stars have poured in since his passing.
Mark Hamill:
“He was the gentlest of giants-A big man with an even bigger heart who never failed to make me smile & a loyal friend who I loved dearly-I’m grateful for the memories we shared & I’m a better man for just having known him. Thanks Pete #RIPPeterMayhew#Heartbroken”
Harrison Ford:
“Peter Mayhew was a kind and gentle man, possessed of great dignity and noble character. These aspects of his own personality, plus his wit and grace, he brought to Chewbacca. We were partners in film and friends in life for over 30 years and I loved him. He invested his soul in the character and brought great pleasure to the Star Wars audience.”
George Lucas:
“Peter was a wonderful man. He was the closest any human being could be to a Wookiee: big heart, gentle nature — and I learned to always let him win. He was a good friend, and I’m saddened by his passing.”
