The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Director J.D. Dillard (“Slight”) and writer Matt Owens (“Luke Cage”) are working on a new “Star Wars” project for Disney and Lucasfilm. There are not too may details about the project and if whether this will be a theatrical film or a series for Disney+.
There has been some confusion spreading around the internet that the film will take place on the planet Exegol, which was seen in “Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker”. The Hollywood Reporter clarrified that while posting the breaking the news for this new Star Wars project, the mention of the Sith planet in their article was just their attempt at a joke.
“The Mandalorian” will be back, and so will Baby Yoda, when season two premiers this October. Disney Chairman Bob Iger shared the good news during Disney’s quarterly earnings call.
Iger also hinted there could be additional spin-off series based on characters introduced in the First Season of “The Mandalorian.”
With Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance now boarding guests and all phases of Galaxy’s Edge now open, it seems that Star Wars presence throughout the rest of Disney’s Hollywood Studios will slowly begin to diminish. Disney has confirmed that the “Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away” show will be ending its long run soon.
No official end date has been announced, but it’s believed that with the opening of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway on March 4, it would be ideal to have the area in front of the Chinese Theatre cleared for any potential crowds. We expect the stage show to conclude its run by then. (Currently, times are still showing through March 14, but entertainment calendars are prone to change.)
Since 2016, the stage show has showcased Star Wars characters, movies, and music, with updates added throughout the years to introduce new characters, like Rey, in 2017. On July 6, 2019, the show’s companion “parade” element, the March of the First Order with Captain Phasma, concluded in preparation for the opening of Galaxy’s Edge. Disney claimed that the First Order was “redeploying their troops to patrol Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.”
With the presence of Star Wars diminished throughout the rest of the park, there is hope that additional entertainment offerings will be added to Galaxy’s Edge, like the roaming droids that have been on the backburner since the land opened, or even additional roaming characters and extended stage shows. (Currently, Kylo Ren makes a few appearances throughout the day to briefly force choke a First Order officer, but that’s about it.)
Disney has announced that reservations will open up for the new Star Wars Hotel experience later this year!
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, which debuts in 2021 at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida will be a two-day and two-night vacation and is an all-immersive experience that will take you to a galaxy far, far away in a way that only Disney could create.
“Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is a completely new type of experience,” says Ann Morrow Johnson, executive producer for Walt Disney Imagineering. “You’re going to live onboard a star cruiser…and you can get wrapped up in the larger Star Wars story.”

Walt Disney World has distributed a survey to guests who received boarding groups to the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance attraction, according to Twitter user @DrewDisneyDude. The survey asks a variety of questions, but one is particularly worth noting: Disney asks guests their preferred way to wait for their turn on the ride.
The question asks, “which of the following would have been your preferred choice in order to ride Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance?” Guests can choose from these options:
The virtual queue system currently used
A combination of limited FastPass+ tickets and waiting in a standby line (similar to the current FastPass+ system)
Standby lines only
Another question addressed issues with the ride. Guests are asked about any challenges they experienced with “Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.” These were the options:
There’s nothing worse than being asked your opinion without any followup from whomever asked, so we hope these surveys lead to improvements to the ride. While no system is perfect, there’s room for improvement when Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance boarding groups are gone within minutes and the attraction experiences consistent downtime.
