Disney Skyliner International Gateway line temporary closure Jan. 23-28

In an effort to continually enhance the Guest experience here at Walt Disney World, we refresh our offerings from time to time. As previously announced in May 2021, Disney Skyliner transportation between EPCOT International Gateway, Disney’s Riviera Resort and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort will be unavailable from Sunday, Jan. 23 through Friday, Jan. 28.

Alternate transportation will be available to help Guests reach their destination during this refurbishment.

New Dooney & Bourke Disney Skyliner Collection

Beginning February 22, a new Dooney & Bourke Disney Skyliner handbag collection will be available at Walt Disney World Resort.

The new collection includes a satchel and tote. The handbags have a sky blue background spotted with clouds and silhouettes of Disney World theme park icons like Tower of Terror and Spaceship Earth. The handles and trim are stitched with brown leather.

Much like the real Skyliner transportation system, the pattern features gondolas covered in characters from Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, Stitch, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Toy Story, The Princess and the Frog, and more.

NEW Disney Skyliner Dooney & Bourke Crossbody Bag

A new Disney Skyliner crossbody bag from Dooney & Bourke has arrived at Walt Disney World.

The bag resembles a Disney Skyliner gondola. On the front of the bag, Mickey takes a picture while Minnie smiles next to him. The sun shines in the sky behind them.

On the other side of the bag, Daisy is awestruck by the sights while Donald studies a park map.

The bottom of the bag is flat and features the Disney Skyliner logo against a black background.

Bus Services Reduced in Favor of Disney Skyliner to Epcot & Hollywood Studios for some Resorts

With the Disney Skyliner having been open for months, bus departures from Disney’s Pop Century Resort to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios have been reduced to once per hour, effective January 5th.

According to WDWClub, the above sign was posted at Disney’s Pop Century Resort on the evening of January 4th. The Disney Skyliner will continue to operate on its current schedule, becoming the primary mode of transportation from the resort to the two theme parks. Bus service to Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom is expected to be unaffected by this change.

While the Disney Skyliner is capable of moving high-capacity crowds from resorts to the theme parks, the system has been plagued with issues since its opening back in September 2019. Whether any extended downtime will trigger an increase in bus service to the resort has yet to be seen.

Disney Skyliner May Partially Open Next Month

Many guests are excited to take their first ride on the Disney Skyliner high above the Vacation Kingdom of the World, but also want to know just when that might be.

While those adverse to heights, claustrophobic spaces, or perhaps those just afraid of the possible high temperatures inside of the gondolas may not be quite as excited, those of you anticipating the newest Walt Disney World transportation system will be happy to know that you’ll likely be able to ride through the skies beginning in August 2019.

According to WDW News Today and construction personnel working on the project, the Disney Skyliner will open to guests on August 28th, the day before the official opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

They expect that the Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and Disney’s Art of Animation/Pop Century Resort stations and lines will be open on that date. For whatever reason, they stated implicitly that the Epcot line will not be ready for August 28th.

Obviously, the Disney’s Rivera Resort station will not open in August either, as the resort will not be operating until later in the year.

Disney has yet to announce these dates officially, but several employees on-site for the project freely provided this information. At the very least, it seems to be a targeted opening date, and based on the visible progress we’ve seen, it seems HIGHLY likely. Things can certainly change, but the Skyliner operating by the time Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens feels like a safe bet.
