At the newly-opened Disney’s Riviera Resort last night, a family awoke to a loud bang after a murphy bed became detached from the wall and fell on top a family member who was sleeping it.
The Guest was not moving at the time the bed collapsed on top of her. According to the post, it took two people to lift up the bed so their mother could roll out from under. Fortunately, she received only minor bumps and scrapes rather than anything serious. Emergency services were not necessary. Front desk Cast Members told the family that they would attempt to fix it later today.
We can only hope that this was a one-time incident, rather than anything indicative, but it’s concerning that such an accident happened on the very first night of operations. In the meantime, exercise caution if you’re staying at Disney’s Riviera Resort and sleeping on the fold-out Murphy bed.

The Disney Skyliner will be closed while Disney investigates after guests were stranded for hours last night on the new transportation system at Walt Disney World. A Walt Disney World spokeswoman said there were no reported injuries, and it was “unexpected downtime” on the Skyliner.
Guests staying on Walt Disney World property received a message stating that the Skyliner will be closed today, October 6.
Cast Members are informing guests at the gate to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort that the transportation system is currently down for the day, but that there is the bus service to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot available.
Disney Security is currently posted at all Skyliner entrances and areas to prevent guests from meandering into stations, as they are likely under investigation given last night’s accident.
Disney’s early Sunday release said it will be working with guests individually “regarding impacts to their visit with us.” Some stranded passengers report receiving four “all-day tickets” and a $200 gift card for their lost time at the resort.
If you are unfamiliar with last night’s events, around 9:00 PM last night, with many guests taking to social media to divulge that the Disney Skyliner system had unexpectedly stopped, leaving guests trapped for hours. Evacuations then began along the line, but it was a lengthy and tedious process, with some guests requiring medical care upon evacuation. Disney reports that no guests were injured in the accident, and claims that the cause of the issue was merely “unexpected downtime.”
