Permits for Room Conversion to Disney Vacation Club Villas to Begin at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Earlier this year, we reported that 200 more Disney Vacation Club Villas are coming to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in 2022. A permit filed for “general construction” at the resort is the first indication that work is set to begin.

The entire Big Pine Key building will be transformed, turning its standard rooms into resort studios that sleep up to five guests. These rooms will be closer to many amenities than the current Disney Vacation Club Villas.

DVCNews.com reports that the company that filed the permit, New Horizon Construction Services, has previously worked on Disney Vacation Club property refurbishments, including Disney’s Vero Beach Resort.

Permit Filed to Remove Construction Offices From Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge

Via wdwnt.com

It’s been a while since we heard anything about Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge at Walt Disney World. There have been rumors since last year that construction on the resort was stalled or canceled. A new permit from Walt Disney Imagineering supports that rumor.

The permit is to “remove office trailers from property” at multiple addresses connected to construction. If construction offices are being removed, that is strong evidence for the resort project being delayed indefinitely or canceled entirely, since construction would be nowhere near completion.

Two permits were filed in the fall of 2020 that suggested construction may have resumed but there have been no announcements since then. Reflections was previously removed from the D23 Expo 2019 announcements page.

Permits for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Sets & Show Control Filed by Walt Disney Imagineering

After filing for a series of permits last month, Walt Disney Imagineering has filed three new permits for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, the upcoming interactive hotel near Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The first permit in this series is for “low voltage installation and termination of system controls and antennas” to be completed by contractor Raleigh Enterprises, Inc., who was “heavily involved in the development and construction of Raleigh Studios Manhattan Beach by Roy E. Disney’s investment company, Shamrock Holdings.”

The second permit filed by Walt Disney Imagineering entails “show control” to be completed by Elite AV Systems.

The last permit of this trio is for “showset installation for Project H” by Dimensional Innovations, Inc. The company describes itself as “always leading with story and design” and has designed experiences for Disney previously, created corporate signage for AMC Theatres, and carried out a “sponsorship master plan that included a theming and graphic storytelling approach” for Orlando City Soccer Club.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will involve characters from Star Wars for its interactive scenes that connect to the storyline of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, promising to be exciting for guests of all ages.
