10-bed, 10-bath lakefront mansion next door to Disney just became the most expensive house ever sold in Orange County, FL

If you’ve ever dreamed of living closer to Walt Disney World, there are a million and one ways to do it. There are even realty groups in the Orlando area that cater to those wanting to move in next door to Mickey.

But for whatever reason, the former Miss Florida, Monica Craichy, and her husband KC, decided to move further from the Mouse, leaving to hungry realtors a 16,000 square-foot mansion just begging to be inhabited.

The sprawling 10-bedroom, 10-bathroom spread at 9225 Lake Mabel Drive listed in Orlando by agent and broker/owner of Windermere-based Florida Golf & Beaches, LLC, Karan Wienker, just sold for $12.5 million to an unnamed buyer, represented by Patricia France of Kissimmee-based Happy Days Realty, LLC–the most money to ever switch hands in a single home purchase in Orange County.

We should mention it was a 100% cash transaction as well.

And if it’s true that it’s all about location, location, location, the mansion on Lake Mabel Drive has it all. The nearly 13 acres on which the mansion sits shares a property line with some of Disney’s conservation land.

Lakefront. Check.

Next door to Disney. Check

Only 90 minutes to the nearest beach. Check.

And then you take a look inside . . .

The French Provincial mansion is gorgeous and beyond spacious, but not quite as stuffy and assuming as you might think when you first arrive.

A double bridal staircase greets guests of the mansion and moves their eyes toward the uppermost part of the room, toward the domed rotunda set above them. The Main Room is 25 feet by 23 feet and boasts a fireplace with a mantle inspired by the one found inside Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom.

Belle would adore the two-story library/study that’s warm and invites guests to come in, choose a book and stay for a while.

The bedrooms are lavish and spacious, but inviting and warm.

There are movie theaters (yes, theaters, as in more than one) and a game room, and the pantry off the kitchen is a homemaker’s dream.

There are offices, studies and sitting rooms throughout the home, and the estate even boasts 2 private apartments.

And we haven’t even stepped outside yet.

Once outside, guests are overwhelmed by breathtaking, unencumbered views of Lake Mabel, just past the dock and covered boathouse.

Closer up to the estate itself, there is a full outdoor kitchen, a travertine coped deck, a pool with spillover spa, rose and herb gardens and more.

With 10 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, 3 half-bathrooms, fruit trees, views of Disney World fireworks every night, a four-car garage, 3 fireplaces and an exterior made of hand-hewn limestone spun from silk and brick, what more could you want? You might just forget that Disney World sits right over the horizon to the south!

Orange County Under New State of Emergency Due to COVID-19 Rise

It seems like each and every day Walt Disney World is making huge strides in returning to some sense of normalcy as they have navigated through phased reopenings after COVID-19 closed their doors in March 2020. Masks are no longer required for vaccinated guests at Walt Disney World with the exception of masks on transportation. Fireworks are back in full force. Disney is increasing capacity regularly; attractions that had limitations are returning; and Disney is preparing for “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” in honor of their 50th Anniversary. More restaurants, more resorts, more attractions, and more Cast Members are returning each and every day! But today makes us a little nervous, as the Orange County Mayor has declared a new state of emergency.

As reported by OrlandoSentinel on July 28: “Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings has declared a new state of emergency as new infections of Covid-19 skyrocket to a single-day high, and wastewater surveillance hints at further increases coming soon. He also said county employees have until Aug. 31 to get their first shot of vaccine protection. He is requiring employees and visitors to wear masks in county facilities and pleaded with private businesses to require employees to wear masks indoors. Demings and other local officials have been seemingly boxed in by actions taken by Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislature, both limiting the ability of cities and counties to implement emergency orders. “Because of that, I’m taking the action that I believe is legally defensible today,” he said.”

A vast portion of Walt Disney World resides in Orange County. On July 27, Orange County reported 1,371 new infections which is the most cases in a single day. Not only are infections on the rise, but hospitalizations are creeping closer to record highs of last July.

Orange County, Florida Seeing 1,000 New COVID-19 Cases Per Day

Mayor Jerry Demings reported on Orange County, Florida’s current COVID-19 cases in a press conference today, saying, “we are in crisis mode.”

Orange County is seeing almost 1,000 new COVID-19 cases a day, which is about the highest peak the county saw in 2020. Demings is urging residents to get vaccinated. Approximately 61% of Orange County residents aged 12 and older have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot.

Mayor Demings has also been urging businesses to require masks indoors again regardless of vaccination status. The county cannot enforce a mask ordinance due to legislature by Governor Ron DeSantis, but private businesses can. Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort have yet to make any changes to their current mask guidelines, which do not require vaccinated guests to wear them.

The 14-day rolling positivity rate in Orange County has more than tripled in the past month, currently sitting just under 14%.

Orange County Mayor Says Masks Should Be Worn Indoors Once Again

As Walt Disney World removes mask requirements and social distancing, increases their capacity, and brings back fireworks and entertainment, the last thing we want to talk about is about COVID-19. Unfortunately, Orange County, which much of Walt Disney World property resides in, is currently experiencing a resurge in COVID-19 cases. Enough so that the Orange County Mayor says masks need to be worn indoors.

As reported by OrlandoSentinel: “Amid a surge in new COVID-19 infections — powered by the delta variant taking root in unvaccinated people — Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said Monday (7/12) vaccinated people should strongly consider wearing face masks while in crowded places indoors. Demings, in issuing his warning, said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has shifted the county back into the “high risk” category. He said he wasn’t issuing a mandate, but a “strong recommendation.””

The report goes on to say, “Caseloads are skyrocketing in Orange County, almost exclusively among unvaccinated people, said Dr. Raul Pino, the local state health officer, and warned numbers could further climb. “This is a moment of truth in our county. This is an unvaccinated issue,” Pino said. “It’s up to you to take it and make that decision.””

406 cases were reported in Orange County on Sunday, with 400 cases reported daily since Thursday in the county. The numbers have doubled from the previous week. About 60% of eligible people have at least one dose of vaccine, leaving about 40% without protection in Orange County.

Disney has yet to comment on the Mayor’s announcement. With the CDC moving the county back into the “high risk” category, we’re curious to see if Disney will make any adjustments. As of May 15, masks were no longer required outdoors for vaccinated guests at Walt Disney World. The mask mandate for indoor attractions was removed on June 15 for vaccinated guests. Of course, Disney is not checking for proof of vaccination, and nearly everyone visiting Disney World does not wear a mask. We’re almost a month in with no masks but unfortunately, this news makes us unsure of what Disney may be discussing.

Orange County, Florida Nears Vaccination Threshold for Elimination of Masks Outdoors

In yesterday’s Orange County Government Coronavirus Update Livestream, Mayor Jerry Demmings announced that the county has nearly reached the 50% vaccination rate threshold. When 50% of Orange County residents age 16 and older have received the COVID-19 vaccine, the current mask mandate will be lifted when outdoors.

Both Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort are located within Orange County.

It’s important to note that both resorts are private property and enforce their own policies. The removal of the mask mandate does not mean masks won’t be required at the parks. We’ll have to wait and hear from the resorts about any policy changes.

Both Disney and Universal recently began removing temperature check stations at their Florida locations.
