Disney Releases Trailer For A New Twist on the Classic Cinderella Story

There are few fairy tales that are more well known — and more frequently remade — than Cinderella. Disney first released the animated fairy tale in 1950 and that was followed up with a 2002 sequel film Cinderella II: Dreams Do Come True and a third film was released in 2007, Cinderella III: A Twist In Time. In 2015, Disney released a live-action remake of the film, starring Lily James, Richard Madden, Helena Bonham Carter, and Cate Blachett.

Cinderella is one of those tales that can seemingly always be adapted to fit with a modern audience, and Disney has revealed their newest take on the time-honored story in celebration of Disney+ Day. The new film will be called Sneakerella and tells the story of hard-working teen El as he falls in love with basketball princess Kira. Disney has released both the key art and the trailer for Sneakerella.

Sneakerella

Here is a description of Disney’s newest film from What’s On Disney Plus:

Set in the avant-garde street-sneaker subculture of New York City, “Sneakerella” introduces El (Jacobs), an aspiring sneaker designer from Queens who works as a stock boy in the shoe store that once belonged to his late mother. El hides his artistic talent from his overburdened stepfather and two mean-spirited stepbrothers who constantly stomp on any opportunity that comes his way. When El meets Kira King (Underwood), the fiercely independent daughter of legendary basketball star and sneaker tycoon Darius King (Salley), sparks fly as the two bond over their mutual affinity for sneakers. With a little nudge from his best friend and a sprinkle of Fairy Godfather magic, El finds the courage to use his talent to pursue his dream of becoming a ‘legit’ sneaker designer in the industry.

Sneakerella is set to premiere on Disney+ on February 18, 2022 and will star Chosen Jacobs as El, Lexi Underwood as Kira King, Kolton Stewart as Zelly, and four-time NBA Championship winner John Salley as Darius King.

“Cruella” Live Action Trailer Released

The trailer for Disney’s next live-action film, Cruella, has debuted on YouTube this morning!

Starring La La Land‘s Emma Stone, Cruella tells the story of the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious—and notoriously fashionable—villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. Set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, Cruella follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets. One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute, played by Emma Thompson of Saving Mr. Banks andBrave, among many others. But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella. You can watch the full trailer below!

Cruella is currently slated to hit theaters on May 28th, as filming wrapped before the COVID-19 pandemic struck. Unlike last year’s releases of Soul and Mulan, there are no current plans for a simultaneous release on Disney+.

‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ Animation Experience Coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Get ready to experience Walt Disney Animation Studios’ all-new ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ in a whole new way at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. Check out the new animation experience coming to the park beginning February 22 as shared below by DisneyParksBlog.

Continuing the legacy Walt Disney started with “Bambi,” animals have been an integral part of Disney storytelling and continue to inspire the development of new, beloved characters. The Animation Experience at Conservation Station offers guests the chance to learn to draw Disney characters inspired by the animals they may also see in the park.

And beginning February 22, learn to draw new characters from “Raya and the Last Dragon,” including Raya’s faithful companion Tuk Tuk.

Part-pill bug, part-pug, part-high speed off-road vehicle and all adorable, Tuk Tuk has been Raya’s best friend since she could hold him in the palm of her hand. As part of the experience, you’ll see a behind-the-scenes look at the inspiration for Tuk Tuk shared by Kelly Marie Tran (voice of Raya) and Awkwafina (voice of Sisu).

Also, at Discovery Island Stage, artists will be working on a 40-ton sand sculpture celebrating the new film.  The display will feature Raya, Tuk Tuk, Sisu the last dragon and the Ongi, all set in the fantasy world of Kumandra. It takes a team of two talented artists over 24 hours to build and carve the display made entirely from sand. Guests will have the opportunity to watch the artisans at work February 19 through 21 and the carving will remain on display at Disney’s Animal Kingdom for a limited time through the end of March.

Experience the fantastical world of Kumandra in these two brand new offerings coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and take a look at the latest trailer for “Raya and the Last Dragon.”

Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon will be released simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access March 5.

“The New Mutants” Trailer Released; Now Hitting Theaters In August 2020

The New Mutants, a movie that has been stuck in limbo since 2018, has a brand-new trailer. Comic-Con@Home2020 debuted the trailer during a panel featuring writer/director Josh Boone and the cast of the film.

The panel video opened with all of the film’s previous release dates being crossed out before revealing the hopefully final release date of August 28, 2020.

The panel, moderated by Ira Madison III, included actors Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt, and Henry Zaga. The new trailer debuted at the end of the video.

The first trailer for The New Mutants aired over three years ago, before Disney purchased Fox and subsequently gained control of the film. Fox and Disney both pushed the release date of the film multiple times. It was finally set to release April of this year. Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, that release date was canceled too.

The New Mutants will be the last of Fox’s X-Men series. Marvel Studios will then take over and likely reboots the franchise.
