Official Statement Released In Regards to The Disney College Program

The Disney Internships & Programs department has released the following official statement to all of its Disney College Program participants regarding potential housing assistance and re-application to the DCP after the sudden termination of the current program.

The statement was also released by the @DisneyInterns page on Twitter, stating:

We know these are extremely difficult times & appreciate your continued understanding. We are basing our decisions on the safety and well-being of our Cast Members and Guests. No one will be without accommodations. Please read our letter to you.

Disney Releases Official Message Regarding Questions About Coronavirus

The widespread concern of Coronavirus/COVID-19 has many of us Disney fans asking questions about Disney Parks and Resorts. DisneyParksBlog released the following message from Chief Medical Officer Dr. Pamela Hymel:

As you may know from the news, COVID-19, commonly known as novel coronavirus 2019, has become a more widespread concern. As part of our commitment to the health and well-being of our cast, guests and the larger community, we are carefully monitoring the evolving coronavirus situation and are in regular contact with health agencies for information and guidance. Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, are welcoming guests as usual and we continue to implement preventive measures in line with the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other health agencies.

Walt Disney World, Disneyland and all of our parks and resorts around the world have high standards of cleanliness, which assists with illness prevention, and we have health and safety protocols in place, such as:

  • Training for cast members, with ongoing reinforcement on a regular basis
  • Defined cycles for frequent cleaning and disinfection of targeted areas
  • Easy access to handwashing facilities and hand sanitizers
  • Quick response to spills, trash and other situations
  • End of day sanitation procedures for restroom, kitchen, and other facilities
  • Frequent cleaning and “wash down” of outdoor locations, including walkways and queues

Additionally, our onsite health teams and leaders are communicating with our cast members about illness prevention, including the guidance of the CDC. The CDC recommends everyday preventive actions to help stop the spread of germs, such as staying home when sick, washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, following proper respiratory cough etiquette, avoiding close contact with people who are sick and avoiding touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

Disney Releases Statement On Coronavirus Concerns

With confirmed cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Florida and California, the Disney Parks division has had to enact heightened sanitation measures across the parks, including increased availability of hand sanitizer stations throughout Disneyland Resort and also at Walt Disney World.

In an official statement to People Magazine, a Disney spokesperson addressed Coronavirus concerns and the steps the company was taking to keep their parks clean and their guests and Cast Members safe:

“We know there is new information this week about Coronavirus in Florida,” the spokesperson said in a statement Tuesday.

“We have very stringent sanitation procedures in place at Walt Disney World Resort. We are in close contact with health agencies for information and guidance, and at this time, we are continuing to communicate to our Cast the importance of preventative measures such as frequent handwashing and rigorous cleaning processes.

“For guest convenience, we have placed additional hand sanitizers throughout our parks and resorts and will adjust our protocols as the situation warrants.”

Disney Releases A Statement Regarding Sinking Jungle Cruise Boat

When news was breaking of a Jungle Cruise boat sinking at the Magic Kingdom, social media blew up in memes and comments regarding the incident. Given that the incident has gone viral, Disney has released an official statement regarding the sinking of a Jungle Cruise boat.

According to Laughing Place, a Disney spokesperson responded with the following statement regarding the incident:

“A boat took on some water. Reedy Creek Fire Department responded immediately to this event. Everyone got out of the boat safely. We worked with guests individually so that they could enjoy the rest of their day in the park. The attraction has reopened.”

The Bomokandi Bertha sank at approximately 12:30 PM, causing the ride to be shut down. The incident caused an interruption of 105 minutes, just enough time to unload the soaking passengers and tow away the sinking boat. The only other reported boat sinking for the Jungle Cruise was back in 2004, when the Sankuru Sadie sank after taking too much water, but was quickly returned to service.

Additional photos of the emergency unloading process were sent to us by a guest on a nearby boat. Guests had to be aided off the sinking vessel and onto dry land by Cast Members (and even other guests.) Everyone on the boat had to be evacuated onto the heavily vegetated, on-stage “jungle” part of the attraction due to their distance from the boat dock.

Do note that the boat affected is one of the two boats for the attraction that is equipped with wheelchair lifts, meaning until this boat is repaired, guests in wheelchairs looking to transfer onto the Jungle Cruise may see some longer waits.

Disney+ Launch a Success for Some, A Headache For Others; Disney Releases Statement

If you’re one of the many Disney+ subscribers who encountered issues this morning upon attempting to log in or access the content library for the streaming service, you aren’t alone. In fact, thousands of users and subscribers have taken to social media to voice their complaints regarding issues with the app and website.

Despite attempting to log on using a secure connection, many have been repeatedly faced with this error code of Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope stating that there was an issue connecting to the Disney+ service. Other subscribers can’t even seem to log in. Many assumed that the Disney+ website and app would be linked to people’s main Disney accounts, but it appears that some users have had to set up a new login and password just for the service, leading to much confusion.

Even once you manage to get in, trying to reach the home page or content library can lead to other new error codes…

According to reports from CNBC, As of 7:00 a.m. EST, there were roughly 7,300 reports of problems with Disney+, according to Downdetector, a website where users can report problems on apps and websites. If you’re looking to chat with a live support agent, wait times of up to 30 minutes have been reported.

Users from other regions of the United States like Puerto Rico have been receiving error messages that state, “Disney+ is only available in certain regions. Depending on where you are located, you may not be able to access Disney+.” Originally slated to launch with full availability in the United States, the Puerto Rico launch has now been delayed to November 19th. Many users based in Canada have also reported receiving the same error message.

An official statement from Disney claims that the “consumer demand for Disney+ has exceeded our high expectations.” Disney was well aware of the estimated subscriber count and even purchased a majority of ownership in BAMTech Media back in 2017 when the streaming service was initially announced in order to boost their streaming capabilities.
