25 Yr Impact For The Disney Conservation Fund

Today is a huge milestone for the Disney Conservation Fund as it celebrates 25 years of making an impact! As we celebrate Earth Day and this Disney Conservation Fund milestone, check out the details below from DisneyParksBlog:

As Dr. Mark Penning recently wrote, during these unprecedented times, we can look to nature to bring us hope and inspiration. This Earth Day, the Disney Conservation Fund (DCF) marks a milestone — 25 years of recognizing and supporting conservationists and communities that embody that hope and inspiration.

Check out this inspiring anniversary message from one such conservationist, world-renowned primatologist, Jane Goodall, PhD, DBE, Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute & U.N. Messenger of Peace.  You can learn more about Dr. Goodall’s inspiring story with a new documentary called JANE GOODALL: THE HOPE, premiered on April 22, on Nat Geo, Nat Geo WILD, and streaming beginning Earth Day on Disney+ and Hulu.

Thanks to generous donations from people around the world, the support of our employees and cast members, and funding from The Walt Disney Company, the DCF has directed $100 million to protect the magic of nature since 1995. We have supported 600 respected nonprofit organizations –and counting – that are working with communities to save wildlife, inspire action and protect the planet. Grants directed to these organizations have helped protect more than 315 million acres of habitat and 1,000 species globally from lions and leopards, to butterflies and bees.

These achievements are made possible by strong collaborations and dedicated people, who continue to inspire us and provide hope for our planet. We’re grateful to the members of the Disney Conservation Team Wildlife staff, who lead best-in-class scientific programs to conserve wildlife in Disney’s backyard and beyond, connect people to build a network for nature, and care for the planet through everyday actions. We’re also grateful to the hundreds of Disney employees and cast members who review funding proposals, raise and monitor funds, share stories that inspire people to make a difference, and expertly care for animals and our planet each day.

You can read more about Disney Conservation projects in our new FREE digital book“The Disney Conservation Fund: Carrying Forward a Conservation Legacy”. Inside you will find some incredible stories highlighting organizations like the International Crane Foundation and its partners in East Asia, who have increased habitat protection for critically endangered Siberian cranes by 19,000 square miles. Or Associação Mico-Leão Dourado, Save the Golden Lion Tamarin, and Proyecto Tití, who have collectively planted more than 900,000 trees to create forest habitat for tiny golden lion and cotton-top tamarin monkeys in Brazil and Colombia, while benefitting more than 165 families through forest-friendly income-generating programs.

In honor of Earth Month, we are also offering a Disney Conservation Fund 25th anniversary-themed wallpaper, featuring some of the most beloved Disney animal characters. You can download the desktop version the wallpaper below, or find the mobile version exclusively on Instagram, shared by @DisneyConservation.

We invite you to learn more about the amazing work some of our Disney Conservation Fund grantees and 180 Disney Conservation Heroes are doing. Their devotion to furthering conservation in their communities and making the world a better place is truly admirable and inspires us every day.

For more stories and updates from Disney’s Animal Kingdom, follow Dr. Mark @DrMarkAtDisney on Instagram. You can also learn more about your favorite animals through Disney Magic Moments and NatGeo@Home.

Thank you for your continued commitment to do what you can do to save resources, recycle and support nature organizations with time or donations. There is no better way to help us honor the 25th anniversary of the Disney Conservation Fund!

Keep up with the work we’re doing all year round by following Disney Conservation on social media. We can’t wait to see what we accomplish together in the next 25 years!

Earth Week: Celebrate The magic of Nature With Disney

Wednesday, April 22, marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, the annual, global event and environmental movement dedicated to protecting our planet. During this Earth Week, Disney is sharing the #DisneyMagicofNature! Check out the details below from DisneyParksBlog:

Even during these unprecedented times, we know Disney fans, animal lovers and those who are environmentally friendly are searching for ways to bring the magic of nature into your lives. This week is the perfect opportunity for a moment of reflection on our planet, appreciating all of its natural wonders as we consider actions we can take to ensure a positive future.

This Earth Week, we’ll be showing you how Disney cares for animals the world over through our parks and the Disney Conservation Fund, which celebrates its 25th anniversary on Earth Day. You’ll hear from Disney experts and learn more about these animals – including a couple new additions to the family at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida.

Starting Tuesday, April 21, you’ll be able to experience a new Wilderness Explorers at Home short-form video series, showcasing fun and easy ways to explore the magic of nature from your own backyard. Be sure to log in to the MyDisneyExperience mobile app and have push notifications turned on to receive these and other exciting updates.

In addition, our friends at National Geographic are bringing the wonder of the wild world directly to your homes and neighborhoods through their educational, storytelling and media platforms. To tap into your inner explorer, Nat Geo is offering an Earth Day Neighborhood Safari activity for families on NatGeo@Home, a new virtual base camp keeping the spirit of exploration and adventure strong for families and kids that also offers daily talks with real-life Nat Geo Explorers.

Nat Geo will also debut two new awe-inspiring television specials that will transport you around the globe: “Jane Goodall: The Hope” and “Born Wild: The Next Generation,” produced in tandem with ABC News, as well as a daylong marathon of best-in-class natural history programming. On social media platforms, @NatGeo is showcasing stunning imagery and live talks with renowned Nat Geo photographers, and in its iconic National Geographic magazine, you can find inspirational and informative stories from the first flip-cover special issue, tackling what the planet can look like in 50 years based on the choices we make today. Dive in at NatGeo.com and NatGeoAtHome.com.

For Earth Day, National Geographic collaborated with Disney Channel on several short programs – known as interstitials – highlighting the animal care and wildlife conservation efforts led by cast members at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. These short programs will air this Wednesday on Disney Channel as part of a full slate of Earth Day programming, joining environmental-themed movies and TV shows such as “Bunk’d,” “Big City Greens” and Disneynature’s “Penguins.” In the videos, hosts Christian J. Simon and Ava Kolker (“Sydney to the Max”) take you on a fun and educational adventure where you’ll encounter animals such as elephants, tigers and gorillas, plus learn about the importance of protecting wildlife. You can visit the DisneyNOW app for a dedicated Earth Day Collection and a 10-minute extended version of the Disney’s Animal Kingdom interstitials.

Earth Day is very special to The Walt Disney Company, and while this one may be different from any we’ve experienced before, we hope it brings you inspiration, joy and the #DisneyMagicofNature!

Disney Announces Multi-Day Celebration For 50th Anniversary of Earth Day

Disney has announced some exciting celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Earth Day and the 25th anniversary of the Disney Conservation Fund this year on April 22, 2020. That day is also the anniversary of the park and so we are really looking forward to all of these events.

Here are all the details from a Disney cast member:

What happens when the 50th anniversary of Earth Day AND the 25th anniversary of the Disney Conservation Fund converge on the same day?

Of course – we throw a party! And you’re invited!

From April 18-22, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will host special entertainment and activities throughout the park – culminating in an all-day extravaganza on Earth Day (April 22).

Each day of festivities includes a stellar lineup of expert speakers and entertainment; behind-the-scenes tours; specialty food and beverage; limited-edition merchandise signings; character greetings; photo opportunities; special Wilderness Explorers activities for kids – and MORE!

Throughout the week, in the Wild by Nature Speaker Series, you will get to hear from some of Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s animal experts, educators and conservation “Heroes” at the park’s Theater in the Wild – learning about the ways Disney’s own conservation experts are working to save the planet and its wildlife.

And if that weren’t big enough, we’ve invited our new Disney colleagues at National Geographic to join in the fun. Nat Geo Explorers and Photographers will share their stories from the front lines of their explorations as well as wildlife photography and video techniques – showcasing what it takes to get all those stunning “never-before-seen” images and footage. They will join the outstanding roster of the Wild by Nature Speaker Series, and we will debut National Geographic merchandise at Disney Parks that week as well.

Get an insider’s view from our own Walt Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde – one of the driving forces behind the past, present and future of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Joe will delight guests again this year with his Tiffins Talks featuring a spectacular four-course meal and lively discussion on Joe’s research trips and personal exhibitions from a life dedicated to exploration. [Note: Registration for this dining experience will begin February 18.]

You can get a unique look at this year’s Disneynature films debuting on Disney+ in April, Elephant and Dolphin Reef, including discussions with Roy Conli, award-winning producer of the films.

Earth Day 2020 just happens to be the 25th Anniversary of the Disney Conservation Fund. The Walt Disney Company is committed to ensuring a world where wildlife thrives and nature is treasured, and the Disney Conservation Fund has been a huge part of that effort, especially at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. As part of the celebration, the Disney Conservation Fund will showcase 25 global wildlife heroes, many of whom will present Stories from the Field and recount incredible moments in their work – saving at-risk wildlife around the world – from elephants and rhinos in Africa, to tamarins and anteaters in South America. Many of these stories will be featured in “Disney Conservation Legacy,” a new special edition 25th anniversary book, available for purchase in the park during the Earth Day celebration.

At the Animation Experience at Conservation Station, you will uncover the secret of how Disney animators bring your favorite characters to life – using real life animals as inspiration; and there will be special Disney characters featured for the Earth Day Celebration!

On Earth Day, if you can’t make it out to the park, Disney’s Animal Kingdom also will be one of the places featured in the global live television event “BORN WILD: EARTH DAY LIVE,” simulcast on National Geographic and Nat Geo WILD on April 22, at 8/7c. Produced along with ABC News, the special features revered National Geographic Explorers and leading ABC News anchors and correspondents who will take viewers on a journey into the most fascinating, breathtaking environments around the world to witness and celebrate the diversity and splendor of charismatic baby animals, their families and habitats.

These are just a few of the festivities we have in store for Earth Day 2020.
