WDW Changes Preferred Booking Method For Dining Reservations

Disney has long stated that the preferred method for booking an advanced dining reservation was calling the Disney Reservation Center. However, snuck into a Disney Parks Blog post today, they stated that the preferred method is now the My Disney Experience App and DisneyWorld.com.

From the Disney:

With hundreds of amazing dining locations to choose from, finding the perfect place to eat at Walt Disney World Resort is easier than ever before. From mobile ordering meals through the My Disney Experience app, to searching for favorite menu items online, guests are able to save time so that they can enjoy all there is to see and do across our parks. Beginning today, due to their overwhelming popularity, the My Disney Experience app and DisneyWorld.com will become the preferred home for booking and modifying table service dining reservations.

Guests can conveniently manage their table service dining reservations right at their fingertips, whenever they choose, alongside other plans they make with family and friends for their visit. Rest assured, as always, cast members at the Disney Reservation Center will continue to be available to help with reservations for groups of eight or more, same-day cancelations, in addition to other assistance guests may need, including Disney Resort hotel reservations, special offers, general questions and more.

Dining reservations could always be done on the website and the app, but Disney is pushing guests to the digital formats to reduce the strain on staffing at the reservation center. Guests can still call for “help with reservations for groups of eight or more, same-day cancelations, in addition to other assistance guests may need”.

Galaxy’s Edge Using A Virtual Queue System For Entrance Into The New Land

A virtual queue system is in place for entry into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios if capacity demands it. This should be great news for guests who were discouraged about the wait times! You can check the land status by opening the My Disney Experience app or checking one of the Boarding Group display boards within Hollywood Studios.

To Join the Virtual Queue:

  1. Make sure that you have the latest version of the My Disney Experience app downloaded.
  2. Launch the My Disney Experience app and look for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge status and access
  3. Select ‘Find Out More’
  4. If the land is open, you can proceed directly to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge via the entrance on Grand Avenue.
  5. If access for the land is via Boarding Group Only, then select to join the boarding group. You can see the estimated land wait time.
  6. Receive a push notification when your group is called and return to the Grand Avenue entrance. You can also check the digital status boards throughout Hollywood Studios.

Note:

If you have an Oga’s Cantina, Droid Depot, or Savi’s Workshop reservation, you can proceed directly to the Grand Avenue entrance up to one hour prior to the reservation time and do not need a boarding group!

Tips:

  • Enable push notifications to be notified when it is your turn to enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
  • Confirm that everyone in your party is linked together on the My Disney Experience app to request the same boarding group for your entire party.

If you are not using the My Disney Experience app visit a guest experience team kiosk to join a boarding group.
