Disney Confirms the Return of Minnie Vans

After more than a year of being unavailable, the popular Minnie Van service will be returning to Walt Disney World Resort! The Minnie Vans are an easy way to get anywhere you want to go on Disney property without needing to wait for a bus. The Minnie Vans, in partnership with Lyft, can be ordered simply by opening your app anywhere around the Resort. Minnie Vans can even be ordered to whisk you away on your magical Disney vacation from Orlando International Airport.

Disney Parks shared the news of the exciting return on its official TikTok.

How about a relaxing way to get back to your room after a busy day at one of the Walt Disney World theme parks or the Disney Springs area? Minnie Van Service is a great way to get around Walt Disney World Resort quickly and in comfort—all while in a Disney-owned, Disney-operated vehicle.

How It Works
Our Minnie Van service works with the Lyft app. Simply open the Lyft app from anywhere within Walt Disney World Resort to access Minnie Van service, request a ride and pay for it through the app—or call (407) 828-3500 to request an accessible vehicle. Cars are usually minutes away.

To request a ride through the Lyft app:

  • Open the app and select your Walt Disney World destination
  • Confirm your pick-up location and tap “Select Minnie Van”; if Minnie Van service is not the default vehicle type displayed, you will need to swipe through your vehicle options until Minnie Van service is displayed
  • The app will display a map tracking the vehicle en route—along with an identifying vehicle number to help you spot your car

Need an Accessible Vehicle?
Please call a Minnie Van Service Specialist at (407) 828-3500 to request an accessible vehicle. Requests can be made 45 to 60 minutes prior to needing the vehicle. Minnie Van vehicles can accommodate Guests with standard wheelchairs, motorized vehicles and electric conveyance vehicles (ECVs); however, an additional wait time may occur.

Pricing for Disney’s Minnie Van service while on property will vary depending on where you are and where you want to go. However, if you wish to book the Minnie Van to take you between Orlando International Airport and the Walt Disney Resort, the cost as listed on the Disney website is $155 each way. Gratuity is not included in that price.

Could Disney’s “Minnie” Vans Be Making a Return?

Over the last few days, Disney’s “Minnie” vans have been spotted here and there around the Walt Disney World Resort, but only a few times, which has us wondering: is Disney’s Minnie Mouse-themed rideshare service gearing up for a triumphant return?

The service first became available to Guests at Disney World in 2017 at select Disney World Resort Hotel locations. Its availability grew to encompass the entire Walt Disney World Resort property and also offered transportation to and from Orlando International Airport (MCO).

For between $20 and $50, Guests could reserve a Minnie van via the Lyft app, powered by a partnership between Disney and Lyft exclusively for this service. Some Guests found it incredibly convenient, and many families with children enjoyed the perk of each van coming with two child seats. Others balked at the cost, opting for traditional Walt Disney World transportation instead.

The future of the Disney World Minnie Van service has been questionable at best ever since nearly 30,000 Cast Members were laid off in response to the growing coronavirus pandemic crisis.

Cast Members were initially furloughed in April 2020, after Walt Disney World closed to Guests in March. During that time, Disney continued to pay premiums for Cast Members’ health insurance benefits, but as time went on, Disney World execs were faced with the very difficult prospect of laying off Cast Members, and at the time, no one knew when the parks would reopen.

The decision was indeed a difficult one for everyone involved, especially for Josh D’Amaro, then-President of the Walt Disney World Resort, whose heart for the Cast Members affected could be heard in his announcement to them:

“In light of the prolonged impact of COVID-19 on our business, including limited capacity due to physical distancing requirements and the continued uncertainty regarding the duration of the pandemic–exacerbated in California by the State’s unwillingness to lift restrictions that would allow Disneyland to reopen–we have made the very difficult decision to begin the process of reducing our workforce at our Parks, Experiences and Products segment at all levels, having kept non-working Cast Members on furlough since April, while paying healthcare benefits.

Approximately 28,000 domestic employees will be affected, of which about 67% are part-time. We are talking with impacted employees as well as to the unions on next steps for union-represented Cast Members.”

Cast Members and Disney fans of all ages were elated to receive the news that the Walt Disney World Resort would begin a phased reopening. But when that reopening began on July 11, 2020, the Minnie vans were nowhere to be seen, and as time went on, Guests wondered if the paid rideshare service would return or if it would be shelved forever.

This week’s isolated sightings of the cheery red vans with white polka dots has our interested piqued at the least, and has us hopeful for their return at best, but at this time, Disney remains tight-lipped about the program, so for now, we’re left to wonder whether Cast Members are simply using the vehicles for convenience while working and performing duties around the Disney World property areas, or if things are moving toward a re-igniting of the service.

Minnie Van Service Retired at Walt Disney World

Via wdwnt.com

In the wake of mass layoff announcements, it has been confirmed that all Minnie Van Cast Members were among those terminated at Walt Disney World. Despite early talks of the service’s demise ultimately brought on by the pandemic, Disney initially squashed rumors by including Minnie Vans in a resort transportation update that mentioned guests should “stay tuned” for return dates. There were no plans at that time to bring the service back, and the vehicles were already gone from the property.

It has been a tumultuous existence for the Minnie Van service at Walt Disney World, a point-to-point transportation option owned and operated by Disney that launched back in 2017. A pet-project of now-CEO Bob Chapek, Minnie Vans were Disney’s response to many of their guests choosing not to use the provided, complimentary (and honestly, often unreliable) transportation options Disney provides their guests and instead booking a Uber, Lyft, or similar transportation method to get around The Vacation Kingdom of the World. Minnie Vans were deemed overpriced by most guests, and they were also hard to get when you actually wanted them, like around park opening and closing times. After years of hemorrhaging money, Cast Members already believed the service was soon being brought to an end.

The Minnie Van fleet was leased through an agreement with Disney corporate partner Chevrolet, but it’s likely they were returned as these vehicles are no longer seen anywhere on property.

Minnie Van Celebrates 1 million Riders

The Minnie Van service at Walt Disney World just celebrated serving its 1 millionth guest.

Now Walt Disney Theme Parks has now announced that they will be collaborating with the popular ridesharing service Lyft.

According the Disney Parks Blog, this fall, Lyft and Disney will be enhancing the app experience at the Walt Disney World Resort. The update will make it easier to request a Minnie Van ride, find the most convenient pickup location, and even select a wheelchair accessible vehicle.
