Attraction Parts Reportedly Stolen At Walt Disney World

Over $20,000 in attraction parts from such classic attractions as Peter Pan’s Flight and Space Mountain have been reportedly stolen after a burglary took place at Walt Disney World, according to a piece by the Orlando Sentinel.

A new law enforcement report notes that the pieces went missing from a storage shed located behind Test Track in Epcot. A Cast Member (listed as a “materials attendant”) noticed a set of sails from Peter Pan’s Flight missing during inventory counts, and later found that “a shell” and three ride vehicle seats from Space Mountain had also disappeared.

The report was filed with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office on October 2nd, a day after the items were found missing. According to the Sheriff, these items were not tagged, nor did they have serial codes or any unique markings. The storage shed, however, is surrounded by fencing, and was padlocked.

Disney declined to comment on the case of grand theft and burglary that has occurred on property, but this is far from the first incident to take place in recent history.

Just this past May, a former Walt Disney World Cast Member was arrested after entering a restricted area in Disney and stealing (and subsequently reselling) over $7,000 in items from The Haunted Mansion. His arrest warrant also detailed facts behind the missing Buzzy animatronic that was stolen back in December, as well as the animatronic’s missing clothes, which were sold off for $8,000.

Update on Bridge Construction Connecting Grand Floridian and Magic Kingdom

One of the top construction projects is that of the long-awaited walkway linking Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and the Magic Kingdom.

While construction at the site has been slow (the bridge arrived quickly, but has laid staged for weeks now), new developments, like the rotating dial mechanism for what we now know will be a swing-arm bridge, have been installed.

You can see that safety cones and barriers have been set up. Additional metal siding is also staged by the work dock.

All of the railings have been installed on the sides of the bridge, which features wood decking.

Seeing as though this bridge will be a swinging bridge (meaning the bridge will literally swing out into the lake to allow for maritime traffic, like the Electric Water Parade barges, nightly), it requires a rotary mechanism. It’s finally been installed, which means we are one step closer to getting our long-awaited walkway!

One end of the bridge will lay stationed over that round mechanism. Of course, further progress is needed before we can see the finalized product.

This walkway will eventually allow guests to walk from the Polynesian Resort and Grand Floridian Resort to the Magic Kingdom, without taking the monorail.

It awaits to be seen as to how long this project will take to complete, but one would assume it would be done before Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary.

Update On Tron Coaster Construction

Thanks to WDWNewsToday for the pictures and the update.

Tron Construction at the Magic Kingdom is progressing nicely as the last internal beams are placed. Now, focus has moved to the entrance queue.

There is a new focus on completing the infrastructure of the sweeping queue. From the base, to the supports, to the electrical work: The enormous queue and its related areas are being secured. Many of the workers are now focused on that task.

Inside that orange boundary is an 8-foot deep hole. This appears to house much of the exterior’s needs, like HVAC, electrical, and plumbing. Plus, the swooping entrance queue is massive and heavy. Therefore, it will need strong support and a thick base.

This is a decent clue as to how long we will have to wait for the return of our beloved Walt Disney World Railroad. Above is the end of the tracks in this location. Until the TRON queue progresses much further, there is no way for them to re-add the tracks. They are currently missing from here to just under the PeopleMover and Space Mountain.

The TRON coaster will be ready in time for the 50th Anniversary of Magic Kingdom.
