Young Expectant Woman Goes into Labor After Riding Magic Kingdom Attraction

An expectant mother went into spontaneous labor following a ride at the Tomorrowland Speedway at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in September.

An official report released by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) on Tuesday lists a 27-year-old female as one of six Guests who were injured or experienced a medical incident while visiting the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida during the months of July, August, and September 2022, and required a hospital transport and at least a 24-hour hospital stay.

Because the state allows major theme park resorts to self-report such injuries, the agency’s theme park injury report gives vague information at best–and extreme misinformation at its worst, as in the case of a young boy who rode the E. T. attraction at Universal Studios Orlando. During the ride, his foot and leg were crushed, but the theme park reported the injury to the state as “foot pain.”

It’s unknown whether the pregnant Guest experienced premature labor or was already at or close to full-term when she visited Magic Kingdom last month. But Disney World’s posted warnings at the Tomorrowland attraction are clear about the potential dangers of expectant women experiencing the attraction.

“Expectant mothers should not ride,” reads a sign at the entrance to the queue for the ride that features tiny race cars, each powered by a 9-horsepower gasoline engine.

The cars at the Tomorrowland Speedway attraction don’t move at a high speed–not by a long shot–but riding can still be dangerous for women who are pregnant. In the afternoons at Magic Kingdom, the smell and fumes from the gasoline alone can be overpowering for Guests waiting in the queue, especially during the warmer summer months in the parks.

Another incident listed on the report at a Tomorrowland attraction at Magic Kingdom involves the death of an 83-year-old man who passed away after riding the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover at Magic Kingdom on September 25. The man reportedly had an undisclosed pre-existing condition, and the FDACS theme park injury report states that he suffered a “cardiac event” following the ride. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

The 27-year-old woman isn’t the first to go into labor after riding an attraction at Disney World. In 2018, another 27-year-old expectant woman went into labor after disembarking at the Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in April that year. That attraction also has posted warnings, which recommend that expectant women not ride.

Elderly Man Dies After Riding The PeopleMover

An 83-year-old man who was visiting Disney’s Magic Kingdom died following a ride aboard the PeopleMover attraction, according to a report from the State of Florida.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that an elderly man suffered a “cardiac event” after riding the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover at Magic Kingdom on September 25. His is the first death of a Guest by a major theme park in the state of Florida since May 2021, when a nearly-60-year-old man died after riding the Spaceship Earth attraction at EPCOT. He subsequently lost consciousness after exiting the attraction and later died at the hospital.

News of the man’s death in September comes from the State of Florida’s most recent theme park injury report, just released on Tuesday. Every three months, theme parks in Florida that have more than 1,000 employees self-report injuries that take place on parks property and require at least a 24-hour hospital stay, per an agreement between the parks and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS), the agency responsible for regulating theme park rides.

The agency then compiles and releases the quarterly theme park injury report.

In addition to the elderly man’s death, there were 12 people who suffered injuries at the Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Studios Orlando Resort during the months of July, August, and September 2022. Each of the visitors was transported to a local hospital and admitted for at least 24 hours.

Reported injuries at the two theme park mega-resorts include a Guest losing consciousness and complaining of various body pains and a Guest who went into labor after exiting an attraction.

Neither SeaWorld, Busch Gardens Tampa, or Legoland Florida reported any injuries for the quarter on the injury report.

The third quarter injury report further lists injuries at Disney World that included a 27-year-old who went into labor after riding a race car at the Tomorrowland Speedway at Magic Kingdom, an 83-year-old man who became unresponsive while riding a banshee at Animal Kingdom’s Flight of Passage attraction in July, a 47-year-old man who passed out while experiencing Mission: SPACE at EPCOT aboard the green mission on July 12, a 59-year-old woman who injured her foot at Toy Story Land at the Alien Swirling Saucers attraction on September 6, and a 46-year-old man who had a seizure after riding Slinky Dog Dash, also at Toy Story Land, on September 25.

According to the FDACS theme park injury report, each of the injured Guests had an undisclosed pre-existing condition, except for the 46-year-old.

Universal Studios reported five injuries during the same period.

But the quarterly report has been highly criticized by some who point out that the descriptions of visitors’ injuries within the report are minimal. When a Guest at Disney World is injured, for example, the report only lists the date of the incident, the attraction involved in the injury, if applicable, the Guest’s age and gender, a short description of the injury, and whether he or she had a pre-existing condition.

In the case of the 83-year-old man who died, there was a pre-existing condition, though it is unlisted.

In 2019, an 11-year-old boy was injured at Universal Studios Orlando when he rode the resort’s E. T. Adventure attraction. Universal reported the child’s injury as “foot pain,” but a lawsuit later revealed that the young boy’s foot and leg were crushed at the attraction.

In late 2020, FDACS promised to take a look at its agreement with Florida’s major theme parks after the Orlando Sentinel conducted its own investigation into the parks’ reporting requirements. However, FDACS spokeswoman Caroline Stonecipher said in July that the agency had decided to keep its current reporting system, “due to privacy concerns and legal issues.”

Work Beginning on Brand-New Magic Kingdom Attraction?

There’s big news this afternoon about Disney’s plans to begin the work of reimagining the Splash Mountain attraction at Walt Disney World!

Disney first announced its plans to reimagine the wettest ride in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom back in June of 2020, and earlier this year, Guests were privy to more information about the planned reimagining–one that will trade the Song of the South theme at Splash Mountain for a Princess and the Frog theme, complete with a brand-new take on the attraction itself.

The new name for the attraction was also unveiled: Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. And according to Disney Fandom, the new ride will pick up after the kiss in the original Disney film from 2009:

“The story takes place after the ending of the film, around 1927. Tiana’s Palace has become enough of a success that Tiana and Naveen decided to expand their business and establish an employee-owned food cooperative, Tiana’s Foods, which has purchased an old salt mine to serve as a headquarters. As Tiana prepares to host a large party for Mardi Gras, she and the Guests journey into the bayou to find a key ingredient for the festivities.”

On Friday afternoon, news broke about a new permit filed by Disney World, which lists a project titled, “CY1899,” and while that particular title has not been publicly shared as corresponding to the reimagining of Splash Mountain, the address on the permit, 4955 Caribbean Way, does seem to correspond to the walkway that leads Guests to the Splash Mountain attraction in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom.

The permit was filed on October 13, 2022, and expires on June 30, 2024, which also correlates to Disney’s announcement that the newly-rethemed attraction would open to Guests in late 2024. But a look at Google Maps confuses the whole scenario, as Google shows the location closer to the Jungle Cruise attraction.

Disney Makes Mistake with New Merchandise

Everyone knows that a trip to Disney World or Disneyland would not be complete without buying a few souvenirs to take back home. Of course, you can do a lot of your shopping online as well through the shopDisney website.

From shirts, headbands, cups, and silverware to pins, costumes, swords, and toys, Guests can find just about anything when visiting the shopDisney website or any of the numerous attraction gift shops.

And speaking of attractions, a Disney Parks collection wouldn’t be complete without an item representing one of Walt Disney World’s most legendary rides.

Space Mountain is a truly iconic piece of Disney history. While popular enough to be found at multiple Disney Resorts across the world, the original in Orlando still stands above the rest. To commemorate this special attraction, Disney recently released a model kit of the actual ride.

“Imagine building your favorite Tomorrowland attraction with this Space Mountain Model Kit. Imaginations soar thanks to the detailed 27-piece kit that celebrates the place where so many galactic dreams come true”, states Disney when describing the kit, “The packaging is inspired by classic blueprints and behind-the-scenes Disney Imagineering notes. It’s all Mickey Mouse-approved too. Now it can be yours to build and put on display for light-years to come.”

However, when looking at the photo of the kit online, we noticed it was seemingly built wrong.

As you can see, the middle section of the kit protrudes way farther than it is supposed to. There is also a hole in the center of the kit, which is not supposed to be seen when the model is completed. Curiously, the kit is correctly shown on the actual packaging.

We aren’t sure exactly why or how this error occurred but looking at the immense catalog of products on the website, we aren’t that surprised something as minor as this slipped past Disney.

For those worried, it may be too challenging, no need to worry! The model kit is only 27 pieces, meaning anyone can build and enjoy this product.

You can buy the model kit by visiting the official shopDisney website.

Winnie The Pooh (and Tigger Too) Are Coming Back to Crystal Palace

We have some tiggerific news that’s going to have you bouncing for joy! Winnie the Pooh and Pals are coming BACK to Crystal Palace for breakfast!

Earlier this year we discovered that the Hundred Acre Wood gang would return on September 20, 2022 for lunch and dinner only and wondered what that meant for the character breakfast. It seems that Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and the gang just needed a little bit more time to wake up than usual. They’ll return a month later on October 25, 2022! Reservations for breakfast open September 22, 2022 at 6:00am EST (trust me, you’ll want to be up bright and early to make this dining reservation as soon as it becomes available because it will fill up quickly).

Winnie the Pooh and Friends have been missing from their iconic Crystal Palace location since the Parks reopened in 2020 after the Covid closure. The restaurant was, at first, reopened as a family style rather than a buffet and no characters were present. Once the buffet came back, we knew it was only a matter of time until our beloved “silly old bear” came back too and we are so excited that very soon he will.

The Crystal Palace gets our vote for some of the best eats at Walt Disney World and certainly one of our favorites at Magic Kingdom. This Victorian greenhouse inspired restaurant serves American fare buffet style and they do it very well. However, not only is it a buffet, it’s also a party! You’ll celebrate friendship day with some of the best Pals we know: Pooh, Piglet Tigger and Eeyore!
