Does Live-Action Pinocchio Finally Have a Release Date?

Although we don’t know exactly how we feel about Disney’s obsession with remaking all of its classic content, we have really been looking forward to the entertainment giant’s reimagining of its 1940 classic Pinocchio.

We love the 1940 classic story about Gepetto and his amazing craftsmanship that, after a visit from the Blue Fairy, yields him a puppet that can talk and walk and eat and sleep, and who just wants to be a “real boy.” So we’re considering issuing Disney a pass on this one as they reimagine the story into a live-action version that includes a new Seagull character named Sofia.

But if we’re honest, we’re probably most looking forward to seeing the incomparable, the uber-talented, the amazing Sheriff Woody himself, Tom Hanks play the role of the kind old Gepetto. In addition to using his voice talents to bring Toy Story’s Woody to life, Hanks also played the role of Walt Disney in the film Saving Mr. Banks. He made a voice cameo in Disney’s Big City Greens, and now he will bring Gepetto to life in a way we’re sure no one else could.

The cast also includes the following:

  • Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Pinocchio
  • Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy Cricket
  • Cynthia Erivo as Blue Fairy
  • Keegan-Michael Key as Honest John
  • Luke Evans as The Coachman
  • Lorraine Bracco as Sofia the Seagull; a new character

You may remember Luke Evans from Disney’s remake of Beauty and the Beast in 2017. He played the egotistical Gaston opposite Emma Watson.

During an earnings call this week with The Walt Disney Company’s executives, it was announced that Disney’s remake of Pinocchio will debut exclusively on the Disney+ streaming platform during the company’s fiscal fourth quarter in 2022.

It’s important, however, to note that the company’s fiscal quarters don’t correspond to the regular calendar, so, according to Disney’s Chief Financial Officer, Christine McCarthy, the film will make its streaming debut sometime between July and September of next year.

Disney Wants Margot Robbie To play Tinkerbell In Live-Action Peter Pan

It looks like Disney is getting ready to head back to Neverland, and they want Margot Robbie to fly with them.

According to Screen Rant, the studio has reportedly offered her the role of Tinker Bell in the upcoming live-action film “Peter Pan and Wendy” for Disney+, but she has yet to accept the part.

The report also claims the character breakdown for the film describes this iteration of the iconic fairy as “Peter Pan’s partner in crime and voice of reason. She is the one to swoop in and save the day when the Lost Boys are hopelessly lost.” Filming in Vancouver is reportedly scheduled from April until August.

“Peter Pan and Wendy” is expected to fall in line with Disney’s recent string of live-action adaptations of their classic animated films, though the inclusion of Wendy’s name in the title may suggest the story may be re-told with a new perspective and an increased role for her character. The next remake to come out is “Mulan,” which will be released theatrically March 27.

New Trailer For Lady and The Tramp Movie Coming to Disney+ on Nov. 12th

Just hours after Disney+ finished revealing everything coming to the streaming service on launch day, November 12th, Disney has released a new trailer for their remake of Lady and the Tramp.

In Disney+’s “Lady and the Tramp,” a timeless re-telling of the 1955 animated classic, a pampered house dog and a tough but lovable stray embark on an unexpected adventure and, despite their differences, grow closer and come to understand the value of home.

Life is good for Lady, an overachieving American Cocker Spaniel who resides in an upscale suburban neighborhood. Her owners, Jim Dear and Darling, spoil her daily and her neighbors, Jock, an outspoken Scottish Terrier and Trusty, a world-weary Bloodhound, are always within barking distance. But when a baby enters the picture, Lady is no longer the center of attention, and the arrival of cat-loving Aunt Sarah only complicates matters.

Lady soon finds herself alone on the streets in an unwelcoming part of town. Fortunately, Tramp steps in, and the streetwise mongrel is quick to teach her the ways of the world. Before long, the prim and proper pure bred and the fast-talking mutt are partaking in moonlight strolls in the park and romantic spaghetti dinners by candlelight.

Tramp savors the independence of a world without leashes or fences alongside his roguish friends Peg and Bull, but Lady misses the comfort and safety of a family, and soon both must decide where – and with whom – they belong. A heartwarming romantic adventure that seamlessly combines live action and photorealistic animation, “Lady and the Tramp” stars: Tessa Thompson as the voice of Lady and Justin Theroux as the voice of Tramp; Kiersey Clemons as Darling; Thomas Mann as Jim Dear; Janelle Monáe as the voice of Peg; Yvette Nicole Brown as Aunt Sarah; and Sam Elliott as the voice of Trusty.

The film is directed by Charlie Bean from a screenplay by Andrew Bujalski and Kari Granlund, and is produced by Brigham Taylor, p.g.a., with Diane L. Sabatini serving as executive producer.

“Lady and the Tramp” premieres on November 12, 2019, streaming only on Disney+.
