Disney Unveils Poster Art Countdown Series For The Opening of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Though 2020 may have only just begun, things are picking up speed as we careen to the opening of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! And just to keep you “post”ed, Disney has revealed the start of a new poster art countdown series in preparation for the attraction’s March 4th, 2020 opening. And if that wasn’t enough, Disney also added that posters created for existing shorts will be featured in the attraction’s queue.

The new “Wish Upon a Coin” poster – inspired by Mickey’s popular cartoon short – was unveiled during Disney Parks Blog’s New Year’s Eve livestream. From Disney Parks Blog:

As you can see, Mickey and Minnie are at the wishing well and we thought it was the perfect artwork to begin our countdown series and a new year of magical wishes!

At Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, the park’s Chinese Theater serves as the magic portal through which you can actually step into a colorful cartoon world where anything can happen. Why? Because here, mouse rules apply! On this zany, one-of-kind adventure, expect the unexpected as you ride through the NEW Mickey Mouse cartoon “Perfect Picnic”!

As you make your way to the “premiere” of “Perfect Picnic” in the attraction, you’ll move through the theater’s lobby and see whimsical posters of existing award-winning Mickey cartoon shorts created specifically for the attraction by Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Television Animation.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will open beginning March 4, 2020 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and later at Disneyland park in 2022.

Rise of The Resistance Boarding Being Passed Out At Opening of Park

Since Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opened, the attraction has utilized a boarding group system that required guests to enter the park and then obtain said group in the MyDisneyExperience app in order to ride. On top of this, the park has been unofficially opening anywhere from 30-120 minutes ahead of the scheduled opening time, allowing guests to grab that boarding group way before the park’s official opening time. Today, things have gone a little differently…

While the park did allow guests in before the official 7am opening time (at 6:30am guests were admitted), cast members have informed guests that they will not be able to join a boarding group until 7am. On top of this, the attractions in the park did not open prior to 7am either.

It is unknown if this is a one-day policy change or if it will be the way the process works from now on, but we will certainly keep you posted on this and further operational changes for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

No Plan For Roaming Droids in Galaxy’s Edge

So far on Batuu, we’ve seen build-your-own droids, Coke Droids, and plenty of droids on stand-by for photo ops, but one glaring omission still remains months after the land’s opening on both coasts: the roaming, interactive droids that were promised when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was first announced.

For the first few months of the land’s opening, heavy crowds were cited as the reason to not roll out these autonomous droid characters, but in a recent piece by the Orange County Register asking when the elusive droids would be debuting at Galaxy’s Edge, it appears Imagineering has no plans to use autonomous character technology in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Disney has tested these autonomous droids several times at Disneyland Park and even at the last D23 Expo. The most famous of these is Jake, or J4-K3, which has more sensors than a self-driving car, according to Walt Disney Imagineering research and development manager Ashley Girdich.

In the Register piece, Imagineering went on to explain that the Jake project was merely exploratory and independent from anything that was being developed for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and no decisions have been made on where or when the droid will be used again.
