More and more information has been released about the upcoming new film Haunted Mansion. A new report is telling us more about the ghost that will be seen on-screen.
The first of these characters is William Gracey and his wife, described as “a wealthy Creole couple in their early 30s, the Graceys are free people of color from 19th century New Orleans.” These character descriptions closely match those of Master Gracey from The Haunted Mansion lore, both in the ride and the comics. Gracey will be a non-speaking role. In addition, other non-speaking ghosts include those of The Mariner, The Butler, The Bride, and the Dueling Ghost. Like Gracey, most of these ghosts have previously existed as characters in Haunted Mansion lore.
We will also see Woman with Rose, Man in Dynamite Suit, Quicksand Man, and The Ballerina; however we haven’t heard anything about beloved characters Madame Leota or the Hatbox Ghost. Although we hope they will be making an appearance, no information have be released.
This will be the second time this classic attraction hits the big screen. In 2003 we saw The Haunted Mansion but it didn’t receive great reviews. We are hoping this new film does better at bring the attraction to the big screen.
Halloween is drawing near, as can be seen in the parks with the arrivals of Autumnal buntings, pumpkins scattered around and Mickey pumpkin wreaths on the light poles of Main Street, U.S.A. And another Halloween-themed Disney treat is on the way as well — Muppets Haunted Mansion, coming to Disney+ this Fall. As Walt Disney Imagineering is celebrating today’s anniversary of The Haunted Mansion opening at Disneyland, their official Instagram has shared the first look at the upcoming Muppets special.
The first image shows Gonzo the Great and Pepe the King Prawn walking down the Corridor of Doors in the mansion, dressed in their black tie best. The second image shows Kermit and Miss Piggy dressed up as each other, looking at a phone.
If you’re looking for the perfect accessory to go with your Haunted Mansion ear headband, then look no further. Loungefly has a new ghostly bag for the famous attraction.
The Haunted Mansion Loungefly Bag – $65
This punk-style bag is covered in flair and has both handles and a shoulder strap.
Master Gracey is pictured on one side of the bag (facing the right direction) alongside a logo for The Haunted Mansion. There’s also a “hurry back!” stamp and a patch that says “beware of hitchhiking ghosts.”
When Walt Disney World parks began phased reopenings in July 2020, it was easy to see a few things were missing, including pre-shows. Disney was hard at work ensuring physical distancing wherever possible which meant gathering a bunch of people in a room was a no-go. While we recently saw the return of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, another popular pre-show has made a come back. That’s right, Haunted Mansions’ Stretching Room has returned at Magic Kingdom!
Previously, the Stretching Room was used as a portion of the queue as shown in the picture below. The doors were left open and guests would simply walk right through the Stretching Room to load their doom buggy.
Now, the Stretching Room and Ghost Host narration has returned! “Is this haunted room actually stretching? Or is it your imagination? And consider this dismaying observation: this chamber has no windows and no doors which offers you this chilling challenge: to find a way out! Of course, there’s always my way.”
Not too long ago, Disney said they are reportedly considering removing the hanging scene from Haunted Mansion which would mean a change for the Stretching Room. With this reopening we’re not sure if/when that may still be considered.
