Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind – A Thrilling Cosmic Adventure at Epcot

Prepare to be catapulted into a thrilling cosmic adventure like never before with the upcoming attraction, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, at Epcot in Walt Disney World. This groundbreaking roller coaster promises to combine the beloved characters of the Guardians of the Galaxy with cutting-edge technology, immersive storytelling, and heart-pounding excitement.

As part of Epcot’s ongoing transformation, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is set to become a standout attraction within the park’s newly reimagined Future World, now known as World Celebration. Blending the spirit of exploration with the charm of the Guardians characters, this attraction is a pivotal addition to Epcot’s evolution.

One of the most anticipated features of Cosmic Rewind is its innovative roller coaster design. Unlike traditional coasters, this ride incorporates a groundbreaking ride system that allows the ride vehicle to rotate independently, providing an immersive and dynamic experience. The attraction will utilize a reverse launch, propelling guests backward into the story before catapulting them forward at high speeds through a series of thrilling twists, turns, and drops.

But it’s not just the exhilarating ride system that sets Cosmic Rewind apart. The attraction promises a narrative that places guests in the heart of a daring mission alongside Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, Drax, and Groot. The story centers around the Guardians’ efforts to save the powerful and mysterious artifact, the Tivan Collection. The collection is owned by the eccentric and enigmatic character Taneleer Tivan, also known as the Collector, who is a fan-favorite from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As visitors embark on this intergalactic journey, they’ll be immersed in a universe filled with stunning visual effects, captivating audio, and the irreverent humor that the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is known for. The attraction’s queue and pre-show areas are also expected to be a visual feast, giving fans the opportunity to engage with the story and its characters in exciting ways.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind aims to merge the essence of the beloved films with the magic of Disney theme park storytelling. It’s a testament to Disney’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation while staying true to the spirit of adventure that defines Epcot.

In conclusion, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is poised to become a must-visit attraction for Disney and Marvel fans alike. With its revolutionary ride technology, captivating storytelling, and the charm of the Guardians characters, this roller coaster promises an exhilarating journey through space that’s sure to leave guests of all ages thrilled and entertained. As Epcot continues its transformation, Cosmic Rewind stands as a beacon of the park’s evolution, offering a dynamic and unforgettable experience that’s truly out of this world.

Start Date Revealed for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind – Holiday Remix

Get ready to rock out with your favorite Christmas songs in an epic race through space! On May 27, 2022, EPCOT’s newest ride (and first-ever roller-coaster) opened, and fans have been raving about it ever since. The much-anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind took the place of Ellen’s Energy Adventure and had been taking guests on a twisty turny adventure through the galaxy since it opened. Fun fact: coming in at 500 million dollars, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is the most expensive roller-coaster ever built!

Earlier this fall, it was announced that Cosmic Rewind would receive a holiday overlay, and much to fans’ excitement, it would include a new song in the soundtrack. Imagineer Wyatt Winter said, “This is an all-new, unique mashup song taking a lot of your favorite holiday songs we all know and love and creating a new song with it … Imagineers were able to do some custom lyrics.” Other than this teaser about the new song, not much is known about the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind – Holiday Remix overlay yet, except that it will be holiday-themed. Not much to go on.

Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind

We have been on the edge of our seat waiting for new information about the rides festive makeover and the wait is almost over! Just announced today the overlay will begin on November 25, 2022. This is an exciting development for Disney World because they don’t often get holiday overlays like Disneyland does (i.e the famous Nightmare Before Christmas overlay at The Haunted Mansion). It will be nice to have a festive-themed ride to enjoy at EPCOT this season. You’ll be able to catch the overlay until December 30, so there is plenty of time to experience the ride in all of its holly jolly goodness.

Guardians Holiday Special

If you can’t get enough of the Guardians of the Galaxy, also releasing on November 25 is the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday special, only on Disney+! Get ready to laugh as the crew ventures to Earth to kidnap Kevin Bacon as a Christmas gift for Star-Lord!

Disney Announces Holiday Surprise for Guardians of the Galaxy: COSMIC REWIND Attraction

Disney World has just made another announcement about the 2022 holiday season at the parks, and this time, it involves one of EPCOT’s newest attractions!

The 2022 holiday season at Disney World is the first one since EPCOT’s long-awaited Guardians of the Galaxy: COSMIC REWIND attraction opened at the park in late May, following an unauthorized, leaked announcement about the attraction’s projected opening date by a Disney exec over Corporate Affairs.

Sadly, the exec was fired shortly after the leak.

On Friday morning, however, an announcement about a brand-new holiday treatment for the new Guardians-themed attraction was made (and this one was authorized).

Journalist Scott Gustin shared the news in a tweet that reads, “NEW: Disney released new artwork for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind “Holiday Remix” coming to EPCOT later this year. The holiday overlay will feature a “new song” that will feature a “mash-up of seasonal jams.”

Like many of the attractions at Disney Parks, EPCOT’s Guardians of the Galaxy: COSMIC REWIND attraction will get a holiday overlay that will be part of the season at the Walt Disney World Resort, which begins in early November and goes to the end of the year.

More information from Walt Disney Imagineering Senior Producer Wyatt Winter was shared about the new “Holiday Remix” for the attraction as well:

In the announcement on Friday, Disney Parks made no mention of the date on which the holiday overlay will debut at the popular new EPCOT attraction, but most of the holiday decor and overlays are in place by the date set by the Walt Disney World Resort as the kickoff to the holiday season, which is November 11 this year, so it’s fairly safe to assume the new Guardians holiday treatments will be installed by then as well.

Iconic Imagineer Joe Rohde Speaks Out on ‘Guardians’ Coaster Controversy

Via InsideTheMagic.net

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is the latest addition to EPCOT, scheduled to open Memorial Day weekend. Despite the excitement, some fans have been disappointed with the ride, especially its location in EPCOT.

EPCOT, which stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, started as Walt Disney’s dream to have a future-focused city where people could live, work, and enjoy world-class experiences. Over the years, it has evolved into a celebration of the future, earth’s natural beauty, the vastness of space, and cultures from around the world.

EPCOT fans have long-questioned the addition of Intellectual Properties to the Disney Park, as it intentionally opened without them, instead focusing on the wonders of learning and imagination. Over the years, to critical fan response, EPCOT has replaced Norway’s Maelstrom with Frozen Ever After, added character meet-and-greets around the theme Park, and, most recently, recreated Disneyland Paris’ beloved Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure dark ride in France.

Though fans who have been able to preview the ride have overwhelmingly enjoyed it, some EPCOT fans are still uncertain that it fits in the Park. Some of them took to Twitter this week to ask Disney Imagineering Icon Joe Rohde what he thought of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind’s place at EPCOT.

Joe Rohde explorer outfit

Joe Rohde is best known for being the lead designer of Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Though retired, many Disney fans look to his expert opinion when a new attraction or experience opens at not just Animal Kingdom, but any one of the Disney Parks.

User @Millionaire2K Tweeted Rohde, asking:

@Joe_Rohde Please chime in on the GotG in Epcot debate! What’s your thoughts? Oh, and have u ridden?

Joe Rohde

Rohde replied that he hasn’t ridden, given that he’s enjoying life in California post-retirement. He asked fans to clarify more on the debate before he’d chime in:

I don’t know anything about a debate. Also (Retired. Live in California.) what’s the gist?

User @BillZanetti explained some Disney fans’ concerns about the theming to Rohde and said fans trusted his opinion because of his work on Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission: Breakout, which replaced Tower of Terror at Disneyland Resort’s Disney California Adventure Park and is widely popular. He wrote:

I think that people want to know your opinion on it because they know you had the Marvel Creative Portfolio at one time, and you led Mission: Breakout through an extraordinarily fast process. The new offering at Epcot had a lot more time to develop and the debate is “fit”…

Rohde replied, stating that you have to find a balance between how well done the coaster is and how well it fits into not EPCOT’s past, but it’s current Intellectual Property initiatives:

So then the question is not necessarily how well does this express Epcot as it was, but rather how well does it address the mandate to use IP in the context of Epcot. You have to parse between “Is it well done?” versus “Is it addressing a valid initiative?” Don’t smush.

A fan (@gatortebowfan15) who rode Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Walt Disney World praised the coaster, saying that while it might not fit into Walt’s initial vision for EPCOT, he thinks it’s going to be a success:

I can report I was able to ride Guardians at EPCOT Center over the weekend. I know it may not fit into the original educational theme of the park, but let’s give Walt Disney Imagineering some credit, it’s a really great attraction. I’m sure it’s going to very popular.

EPCOT cosmic rewind with spaceship earth

Rohde quoted this response, praising Tom Fitzgerald, an Imagineer that initiated and developed Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. He wrote that his own opinion on the ride shouldn’t matter since only those who have ridden it should be involved in the debate:

Tom Fitzgerald is a great Imagineer with a great nose for popular consumption. He initiated and developed this project. I would therefore believe that the attraction is great, having not seen it in person. The debate should be constrained to those who have.

User @derekjcole expressed that he feels there’s a split in the Disney Parks fan community between people who have ridden the ride and those who haven’t:

Seems like those that have been on it love it and those on Twitter that have not hate it. Who are we to believe?

Onboard Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Rohde gave one last opinion on the subject by quoting this Tweet, stating that the most essential part of any Disney Parks attraction is to make Guests happy. He wrote:

Yes. The ultimate ultimate goal is to bring happiness. Are people happy?

ime will tell what Joe Rohde thinks when he has the opportunity to visit EPCOT and ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind!

Playlist, Villain Revealed for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT

Anyone who’s watched the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies knows Peter Quill (a.k.a. Star-Lord) loves music more than just about anything. Classic pop tunes are woven into the fabric of the films and characters so much, and there will also be a great playlist for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind when this new attraction debuts May 27 at EPCOT.

When Disney Imagineers were developing this family-thrill coaster, they came up with a list of more than 100 potential songs for the Starjumpers’ onboard sound system. The team rode the attraction over and over again testing how various tracks fit with the spirit and the movement of the coaster. They finally settled on this “Awesome Mix” of six songs, in their classic versions:

  • “September”
  • “Disco Inferno”
  • “Conga”
  • “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”
  • “I Ran”
  • “One Way or Another”

Guests won’t know which track they’ll hear until they actually blast off with the Guardians on an intergalactic chase through time and space. Guests will need all the encouragement they can get, too, because the Guardians are asking for help to stop Eson, the Celestial seen in the image above, from completing a nefarious plan. Eson is powerful, ancient, and seems poised to grab our planet in one hand.

Whatever his intentions, at least the Guardians are on our side – awesome tunes and all. Come help them save the galaxy (again!) beginning May 27 when Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind officially opens at EPCOT as a major milestone in the park’s historic transformation and another big moment in the Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary celebration.
