Robo Carts Have Arrived at Walt Disney World Golf Courses

Walt Disney World Golf is continually looking for ways to enhance the golf experience and their latest innovation is already turning heads up and down the fairways around Walt Disney World Resort. Check out the details and visit below from DisneyParksBlog introducing the Robo-Cart!

If you’ve ever walked around an 18-hole golf course carrying your clubs or using a push cart, you know that can be exhausting. Disney Golf aims to ease that hardship with the Robo-Cart, a small robotic golf cart that uses GPS and Bluetooth technology to transport your clubs safely around the course.

Golfers merely clip on the cart’s small transmitter (I found that attaching it to your belt behind your back works best), load your golf bag on it and then the autonomous cart follows a few paces behind you wherever you go. If you stop, the cart stops. If you start walking, the cart starts moving (max speed is approximately 7 mph).

Obviously you have to be a little careful when you’re walking across narrow bridges or along any lakes on the course, but Disney Golf officials told me the GPS technology in the carts is very accurate and, as a result, they have not had any incidents of golfers leading the carts into any trouble.

The Robo-Carts, designed by Club Car, are also equipped with all of the amenities that golfers need –  beverage cooler, cup holder, sand bottle and even a USB port so you charge your smartphone while you play. The front of the cart has a color GPS screen that gives you all of the standard yardage information typically available on full-size riding golf carts.

Walt Disney World Resort is one of only a few places in the surrounding area where you’ll find these robotic carts in use. They are ideal for Disney’s Oak Trail golf course, a 9-hole walking course that appeals primarily to families and younger golfers, however they are also available if you want to walk the 18-hole Magnolia and Palm championship courses.

The best part is the Robo-Carts rent for only $10 in addition to your green fees. They are available only at the Palm, Magnolia and Oak Trail courses. Check out the Disney Golf website to learn more.

And here’s another tip for you: If you’re interested in playing on Saturday or Sunday mornings, you can book your tee time at least six days in advance to get a 10 percent discount on your green fees ($49 plus tax). It’s part of a new “Early Bird’’ program for weekend tee times before 11:30 am.

These two new features should help elevate your golf experience and maybe even help you get a hole-in-one. If you do, you’ll be added to our new Hole-In-One Club where you’ll be featured on our Hole-In-One Club website and presented with a personalized Hole-In-One Club certificate.

Just book your tee time at www.golfwdw.com and ask about our Hole-In-One Club and our Early Bird program, or rent a Robo-Cart when you check in at the clubhouse. See you on the tee box!

WDW Golf Courses Remain Open Amidst The Pandemic

Despite the closure of all Walt Disney World Resort hotels and theme parks, there’s one segment that, oddly enough, remains open throughout the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and its requisite stay-at-home orders––the golf courses.

The website for Golf WDW currently lists the following announcement at the top of their home page:

Walt Disney World® Golf is open!
Golf and FootGolf operations remain available on our regular schedule. We continue to closely monitor recommendations by health officials and have implemented measures to help ensure the well-being of all who visit and work at Walt Disney World® Golf. We recommend continuing to visit our website for further updates to our schedule.

Guests are still allowed to book tee times due to the fact that golf is considered a form of exercise, which is allowed within the recent stay-at-home mandate. Given that guests practice social distancing while golfing, this would technically break none of the rules established by the mandate.

The online reservations page explains some of the social distancing guidelines in place:

Thank you for choosing to play Walt Disney World® Golf, we look forward to welcoming you to the “Happiest Place on TURF!”

In the interest of social distancing, we would prefer that you pre-pay for your tee time, thus minimizing your human interaction and touch-points at the golf course. Please select that option before finalizing your online reservation today. Additionally, Cash purchases will not be accepted at this time. Only Credit/Debit Card or Apple Pay purchases will be permitted. Thank you for your understanding!

Do note that since all Walt Disney World Resort hotels are closed, in order to access to Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort, you must have a prior reservation. Reservations can be made online or by calling (407) WDW-GOLF.

Walt Disney World Golf To Remain Open

Hang on to your clubs and get in your carts because Walt Disney World® Golf is open!

If you had any plans to visit any of the Walt Disney World courses in the foreseeable future, do not worry, as the official Golf WDW website has released this statement…

“Golf and FootGolf operations remain available on our regular schedule. We continue to closely monitor recommendations by health officials and have implemented measures to help ensure the well-being of all who visit and work at Walt Disney World® Golf. We recommend continuing to visit our website for further updates to our schedule.”

While of course, this information is subject to change and as we have seen over the last few days, things can and do change really quickly, at least for now, not all Walt Disney World entertainment is closing. So book your tee time and enjoy!

Father’s Day At Walt Disney World

Whether Dad’s ideal day is spent enjoying sports and the great outdoors, experiencing exciting attractions or sampling delicious cuisine, there is something for every dad at Walt Disney World Resort this Father’s Day.

Here are just a few of the options for making Dad’s day the best one yet:

Dining Options

  • At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Flame Tree Barbecue will offer a limited-time Dad’s Platter with brisket, pulled pork, chicken and ribs. Restaurantosaurus will offer a “burger and brew” combo featuring a jalapeño popper burger. And a Father’s Day cupcake will be available at select locations around the theme park.
  • A prix fixe menu will be offered at Coral Reef Restaurant at Epcot, featuring a grilled 10-ounce top sirloin steak, a grilled shrimp skewer and loaded mashed potatoes, as well as choice of appetizer and dessert.
  • Jiko at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge will offer a Father’s Day prix fixe menu that includes oak-grilled, bone-in ribeye and fire-roasted bone marrow as well as an optional wine pairing.
  • Special offerings will also be available at Flying Fish at Disney’s BoardWalk Entertainment District and Citricos at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
  • Celebrate the man of the hour with Morimoto Asia’s Orange Gator & Waffle Cone – made with succulent tempura sake marinated alligator, wok-tossed in a sweet and tangy orange sauce, and served in a crunchy house-made waffle cone.

Activities/Recreation

  • Ride the Waves at Typhoon Lagoon Dad can learn how to master the waves at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park with private surfing lessons. Instructors teach participants everything from standing on a surfboard to riding the waves in the park’s large wave pool.
  • Disney World is home to the ESPN Wide World of Sports, which hosts many different sporting events from baseball to cheerleading tournaments throughout the year. The AAU Gymnastics National Championship will be taking place over the 2019 Father’s Day weekend if your dad wants to see some action.
  • Sail the Seven Seas on the Pirates & Pals Fireworks Voyage Ahoy Mateys! This swashbuckling cruise across Seven Seas Lagoon is perfect for Dad and his little mates. Captain Hook and Mr. Smee from Disney’s Peter Pan make appearances as the ship sets sail. Departing from Disney’s Contemporary Resort, this voyage offers snacks, beverages, and pirate fun.
  • There are three main golf courses that have 18-hole championship layouts: Magnolia Golf Course, Palm Golf Course and Lake Buena Vista Golf Course. The 9-hole layout at Oak Trail Course is recommended for beginners and families with children. At Oak Trail, you can try your hand at FootGolf, which combines a 9-hole golf course with soccer balls. For mini-golf fans, pick from a Winter Summerland course that features Santa and his elves year-round, or the Fantasia Gardens course that stars hippos in tutus, marching broomsticks and ballerina ostriches.
  • Fishing on Bay Lake Even sports fishermen’s dreams really do come true at the Walt Disney World Resort, where trophy-sized largemouth bass in the 14-pound range sometimes lurk in lakes and canals almost within casting distance of Cinderella Castle.
  • Epcot is easily the best Disney park to find the widest selection of beers. It’s no wonder why “Drinking Around the World” is a popular thing to do for adults ages 21 and up.
  • Explore the Savannah on Wild Africa Trek This African expedition experience is just right for dads with an adventurous spirit, and there’s no passport required. At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, dad can explore exotic African wildlife in a natural habitat on a privately guided, three-hour journey through a savannah.
  • For families with a Park Hopper ticket, we recommend hitting Expedition Everest, Tower of Terror, Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain. If you have a Base Ticket, Magic Kingdom is a solid option so that you can conquer the three Mountains, or head to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for Tower of Terror, Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster and the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular (during which your dad has a chance to volunteer as a costumed extra in the show!).

No what your dad is into, there is always something fun and exciting for dad’s of all ages at Walt Disney World.

Don’t let another Fathers Day go by without experiencing a Disney Father’s Day!
