Disney Attraction Destroyed, Canceled Indefinitely

Via InsideTheMagic.net

An entire section of Disneyland has been destroyed following a devastating accident.

As we’re sure you’re already aware, a massive fire broke out during Saturday night’s performance of Fantasmic at the Disneyland Resort. Hundreds of videos and photos spread online of the incident giving us multiple views and angles of the devastating accident. Flames quickly overtook the Melafeicent dragon during the show, leaving Guests stunned.

The direct cause of the fire is still under investigation. This was by far one of the worst accidents we’ve seen take place at Disney, with video footage of the fire leaving us speechless. Guests could see the flames and smoke from around the entire Park, with some catching glimpses of it as they barreled down the drop on Splash Mountain.

The fire was devastating and essentially left the dragon animatronic destroyed. New photos show the totality of damage on “Murphy,” the dragon:

Murphy is almost completely gone. #Disneyland Fire still on site. No damage to the rest of the area from our view

As you can see below, what’s left of the figure has been covered with tarps:

Work has already started fixing the #fantasmic stage at #Disneyland #disneylandfire

In some of the Guest footage, you can see fluid leaking out of the dragon well before he caught on fire. It’s believed that this is what caused the fire to take place.

It’s important to note also that Tom Sawyer Island has been closed as a result of this fire. Fantasmic! takes place at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. At the time of publishing this article, all performances of Fantasmic! have been canceled.

We aren’t sure how long Fantasmic! will be down for, but it’s safe to assume we won’t be seeing the dragon anytime soon. This accident also prompted Disney to halt all use of pyrotechnics throughout its Parks and Resorts, though this was later changed to only affect very little.

FIRE Breaks Out During Popular Disney Show

Fantasmic! is a classic nighttime show at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. With showings nightly this beloved show is a staple for many Disney Park visitors. The show follows the iconic Mickey Mouse on a  journey into his dreams where he meets familiar friends and fearsome foes.

The show opened at Disneyland in 1992 was developed after Walt Disney Creative Entertainment was asked to create a nighttime spectacular involving water and fireworks to reinvigorate the space in front of the Rivers of America. Fantasmic! was then duplicated and brought to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando in 1998.

The show features an epic battle against a massive dragon. Mickey must battle the forces of darkness to make it through his dream journey. Saturday night, Mickey’s nightmare became everyone’s nightmare at Disneyland when the dragon fire.

One video captured a PA announcement telling visitors that the performance could not continue due to “unforeseen circumstances.” The theater was then evacuated. There were no injuries reported. Deadline reports, “Disneyland theme park representatives confirmed that “during the final showing of Fantasmic at Disneyland park on Saturday evening, the dragon caught fire. Anaheim Fire & Rescue quickly responded and the fire was extinguished.”

It is unknown at this time what caused the fire. Disneyland has stated that “All cast members were safely evacuated from Tom Sawyer Island. Due to smoke and wind, attractions near the island were safely evacuated of any guests, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.”

Festival of Fantasy Parade

This isn’t the first time a dragon has caught fire at a Disney Park. Several years ago the Maleficent dragon caught fire at Magic Kingdom’s Festival of Fantasy Parade. The float was out-of-commission for more than a year as repairs were made. It is not clear at this time if Fantasmic! will reopen soon with a modified show excluding the dragon or if the show will he dark until repairs are made and the investigation is concluded.

Fire Breaks Out at Disney World’s Yacht Club Resort

A fire broke out at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort on Monday evening.

According to Twitter user Spectro Radio (@spectro_radio), a fire broke out at the Beaches & Cream ice cream shop, and Guests had to be evacuated from the restaurants at Disney’s Yacht Club, including the Yachtsman Steakhouse.

“Apparently, there’s a fire at Beaches & Cream,” the post, tweeted at about 6:00 p.m. local time, reads. “People being evacuated from Yacht Club restaurants, including Yachtsman Steakhouse. #disney #yachtclub

In the short video clip, Guests can be seen waiting outside Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, and blue lights flash against the structure of the Resort Hotel, signaling an active fire alarm on property.

Another Twitter user, Rob (@robtruslove), had a jovial take on the situation and responded as such.

“Just ordered my steak too,” he tweeted. “Can we go back in yet?

Disney World’s website invites Guests to “delight in the formal grace of a grand New England-style yacht club at this lakeside hotel. Relax in the inviting elegance of a plush lobby replete with nautical touches, explore the whimsical Stormalong Bay and rent a variety of watercraft from Bayside Marina. Sharing many amenities with its pastel-toned sister, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is within walking distance to EPCOT and a convenient boat ride to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.”

At the time of this post, there are no reports of injuries related to the fire at the Resort Hotel.

It’s not immediately clear what led to the fire and the evacuation of Guests from the Resort and restaurants at the Yacht Club Resort, and as this is a developing story, we will follow any further developments and bring those to our readers as more news becomes available.

Another Fire Breaks Out During Nighttime EPCOT Show

On October 1, 2021, Walt Disney World kicked off its massive 5oth Anniversary celebration, which included new rides — Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure –, a ton of delicious new foods, and two new nighttime spectaculars — Disney Enchantment at Magic Kingdom Park and Harmonious at EPCOT, which takes places on World Showcase Lagoon.

While Disney Enchantment is not as popular as Happily Ever After — which is coming back when the 50th ends –, Guests seem to enjoy heading to EPCOT to watch the show, complete with great music and stunning fireworks. During Harmonious, fireworks actually shoot off right near Guests, which can be both startling and thrilling.

However, in the year since the show started, there have been several problems. Well, one big problem, really. Fires. And how another fire has broken out during the show.

Theme park insider Scott Gustin shared that a fire broke out on one of the barges used in Harmonious. Disney said that the fire broke out on one of the barges, but was contained and put out after the show.

This is not the first time that a fire has broken out during Harmonious. A couple of months ago, a fire broke out near the America pavilion due to a stray ember from the fireworks. Another time, a firework appeared to malfunction, causing a fire on one of the barges.

Here is more on Harmonious, courtesy of the Walt Disney World Resort website:

The heart of the EPCOT transformation comes to life with Harmonious, one of the largest nighttime spectaculars ever created for Disney Parks. The show is a beautifully crafted medley of classic Disney music and visuals reinterpreted by a culturally diverse group of 240 artists from all around the world. Come and be dazzled by all of it as you discover how Disney music and stories have the power to inspire and unite us all, overcoming any language or border.

This magnificent show brings to World Showcase Lagoon an innovative combination of floating giant screens, choreographed moving fountains, lights, pyrotechnics and lasers in a 360-degree view. Enter amazing worlds inspired by Moana, Aladdin, Coco, Brave, The Lion King, Mulan, The Princess and the Frog and other classic stories. Colorful images and effects dance and change as Harmonious weaves familiar Disney music and stories together. Through unique perspectives as diverse as the world itself, Disney songs hop from language to language as the show brings people from different parts of the world together to unlock the magic of possibility.

FIRE in EPCOT’s World Showcase

Last night, the World Showcase was set ablaze in an accident just after Harmonious, EPCOT’s nighttime fireworks show. Little is known at the moment about the cause of the fire, but it seems likely that a stray ember from the fireworks is responsible. There were also reports of lightning in the area tonight.

In a video posted on Twitter, the back of the American Gardens theater can be seen with decently large flames coming from the back of the theater. Earlier reports showed smoke in the area so heavy it was hard to make out exactly which building was ablaze.

The video also shows a speed boat racing toward the fire. While this is a very scary incident, especially for those present at the Park tonight, we are grateful for fast-acting Cast Members who can be seen springing into action to ensure guest safety and to put the fire out.

Comments on Twitter and Facebook from bystanders present report that the flames were quickly extinguished though it is not certain at this time if there was any lasting damage done to the theater. The fire did not spread to any other locations in the World Showcase.

There have been no reports of injury. At that time in the evening, it’s unlikely that guests would have been present, but it’s unclear if any cast were present in the area. Frequently technical crew will be in the theater late into the evening working on future productions. We sincerely hope no one was there tonight. This is a very early report. We will update you as more details become available.

According to Twitter user @SoFLalTaLGaL, this exact location was set on fire earlier this year.
