California Governor: Mass Gatherings Unlikely Through August; Disneyland Summer In Jeopardy

With summer quickly upon us, many eager Disneyland Resort guests and Annual Passholders are searching for answers regarding when the parks will reopen, but it seems California Governor Gavin Newsom is putting a lid on any potential summer reopenings. During a press conference today, the governor stated that the chances of mass gatherings of any kind taking place are low. Without a vaccine in place, the prospect of allowing such gatherings would be considered negligible at best.

Gavin Newsom said the chances of mass gatherings in California for sporting events this summer was low. “The prospect of mass gatherings is negligible at best until we get to herd immunity and a vaccine,” he said. He said large gatherings in June, July and August were “unlikely.”

Along with restricting mass gatherings, the governor outlined a plan comprising of six parameters that are needed before the state can lift any stay-at-home orders and other COVID-19 interventions:

1. A widespread expansion of coronavirus testing;
2. “Vigilant” protection of California’s most vulnerable residents;
3. Focus on hospital care infrastructure and personal protective equipment, or PPE;
4. Engage researchers in academia, incuding the University of California, and at health and technology companies on the front lines of the pandemic;
5. “Redraw floor plans” at business locations with physical distancing in mind;
6. Determining when to re-institute certain measures, such as stay-at-home orders.

Is Gavin Newsom the most underrated governor in the country right now?

Disneyland Resort remains closed, along with the rest of the Disney Parks, “until further notice.” In a recent interview with Barron’s, former Disney CEO Bob Iger commented on the possibility of temperature checks for guests, but no confirmation of this being implemented at the other Disney Parks (besides Shanghai Disney Resort) has been issued.

Lamp Remains Lit In Walt Disney Apartment @ Disneyland

For more than six decades, Disneyland has been a source of joy and inspiration to all the world – particularly during challenging times.

An iconic Victorian-style lamp glows every night from Walt Disney’s apartment in Disneyland park––a tradition spanning from the days Walt Disney himself would visit Disneyland. Whenever the lamp was on, guests and Cast Members knew he was around. The lamp has been on since his passing.

Disneyland President Rebecca Campbell has taken to social media to share this heartwarming photo of Walt’s apartment in Disneyland, which remains lit to this day, despite the unprecedented Disney Parks closures due to COVID-19.

Rebecca Campbell wrote the following caption for her post:

“Inside Walt Disney’s apartment overlooking Town Square at Disneyland, a light has shone through the window above the firehouse for decades. It glows as a source of inspiration to our cast and our guests as a remembrance of the man who once looked out that window to the sights of happy families making memories below.
Tonight, even in a world filled with so much uncertainty, that light still shines, bright as ever. I’m looking forward to the day when families can make memories once again.”

Today, even in a world filled with so much uncertainty, that light still shines, bright as ever.

Virtual Viewing of “Magic Happens” @ Disneyland

With the closures of Disneyland Park and Walt Disney World due to the COVID-19 concerns, us Disney fans are missing our “home away from home”. Well, Disney is working to keep us entertained right from home! Check out this Virtual Viewing of “Magic Happens” at Disneyland Park. Details and video below from DisneyParksBlog:

We know Disney fans are searching for ways to bring magic and joy into their everyday lives and we’ve loved seeing some of you recreate your favorite Disney Parks experiences in your very own living rooms! In fact, you’ve inspired us to share #DisneyMagicMoments for you and your family, to enjoy at home.

Today, while we are temporarily closed, we wanted to bring magic directly to everyone at home with a special virtual viewing of the all-new “Magic Happens” parade, which recently debuted at Disneyland park! This daytime spectacular celebrates the awe-inspiring moments of magic that are at the heart of so many Disney stories. We hope you’ll gather with family at home to watch this stunning moment of magic:

“Magic Happens” features nine newly designed floats, highlighting magic from classic Walt Disney Animation Studios tales, such as “The Sword in the Stone,” “Cinderella” and “Sleeping Beauty,” to more recent stories, including “Frozen 2,” “Moana” and “The Princess and the Frog,” as well as Disney and Pixar’s “Coco.”

The new floats were created as pieces of moving art, with their lines and aesthetic design telling a story along the parade route, while also evoking a sense of magic. The stories seen in “Magic Happens” are rooted in iconic Disney lore, but the soundtrack, costume design and choreography are heavily influenced by today’s contemporary designers. Be sure to listen up for the energetic musical score and new songs, co-composed by singer-songwriter, Todrick Hall.

We hope you take time to enjoy special #DisneyMagicMoments.

Disneyland Dapper Dans Give At-Home Performance

Disney Parks may be closed due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, but thankfully, the Dapper Dans from Disneyland are coming to us with their first-ever at-home performance. With their happy harmonizing, the Dapper Dans are an iconic part of the Main Street, U.S.A., and now, we can see them from the comfort of our homes.

From Burbank, California to Houston Texas, the Disneyland Dapper Dans jumped online at home to sing one of their all-time favorite songs “When You Wish Upon A Star.” The song is just one of many others from a Dapper Dans song list that includes the popular “Grim Grinning Ghosts” and “When I See An Elephant Fly.”

For their next performance, you can head on over to the Disney Parks Blog and vote for what song you’d like to see them harmonize to next. (I’m loving that “Grim Grinning Ghosts” is in the lead right now!) Thanks, Dapper Dans, for that amazing performance!
