Disney apologizes for Cast Member ruining wedding proposal at Disney Park

Disney has issued an apology after a Cast Member who ruined a Disney wedding proposal between a young man and woman in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Paris.

Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Park is enveloped in golden accents and pixie dust as though it has been magically enchanted. Here, guests can explore winding passageways where the epic tale of Princess Aurora is told through spellbinding dioramas. Inspired by the film’s original Eyvind Earle artwork, this iconic attraction features 3-dimensional displays, sound and stunning special effects. The climactic final scene features Maleficent’s transformation into a fire-breathing dragon. (Christian Thompson/Disneyland Resort)

In a video which has made the rounds online, a young man and his girlfriend are seen standing on a concrete space with Sleeping Beauty Castle in the background. The man drops to his knee and extends an engagement ring to his girlfriend, but just before she takes the ring from him, a Cast Member races up from behind the couple, runs between them and snatches the ring away from the groom-to-be.

The Cast Member says nothing but motions for the couple to follow him.

“She said yes,” the man says to the Cast Member, who replies with “Yes, that’s great; over here will be even better.”

Immediately, the crowd that gathered to witness the momentous occasion began jeering, shouting “boo” to the Cast Member.

The Redditor who posted the video of his best friend’s proposal says the Cast Member “ruined” the couple’s moment and claims his friend “asked for permission beforehand” to be in that location near Sleeping Beauty‘s beautiful castle.

Comments from other Redditors online ranged from disbelief to anger over the Cast Member’s actions.

The Redditor who posted the video wrote, “The woman [Cast Member] gave him permission, [then] this he ran up to him and [grabbed] the ring.” Many who commented online raised questions about whether the involved Cast Member was at risk of losing his employment at the Disney Park.

One comment came from someone who claimed to know a Cast Member at Disney who told him that Walt Disney Company employees are “explicitly told that we never touch a Guest without their clear permission, given either verbally or through body language.” The Redditor further stated he was told that Cast Members are “not allowed to take their property under any circumstances and doing so results in termination.”

The comment went on to say that the Cast Member also said the following:

“We’re also trained to do anything we can to keep our Guests happy and continue to sell the image of ‘Most Magical Place on Earth.’This employee will be terminated pretty swiftly should this video make it to the right people. All he had to do was wait 10 seconds. Get it out there and he’s a goner.”

Though we don’t know whether the Cast Member is a “goner,” we do know that a spokesperson for Disney has addressed the situation, saying “we regret how this was handled.” The spokesperson went on to say that Disney has apologized to the couple attempting to experience a magical Disney wedding proposal. Disney has reportedly even offered to make the situation “right,” according to Newsweek.

Disney Park wedding proposals are so common that PlanDisney has devoted time to answering Guests’ Disney wedding questions, as well as Disney wedding proposal questions.

One particular response online is very thorough and reads in part as follows:

“A proposal at the Disneyland Resort can be as simple as popping the question in front of the castle or as elaborate as a grand gesture involving Cast Members. Either way, your next journey with your partner will start in the most magical way! It’ll be a memory to last a lifetime. While you are not required to contact Disney in order to propose, you may want to if you’d like to plan something more elaborate. You’ll want to reach out to Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings and Honeymoons. These specialists can provide support and ideas to make sure everything goes smoothly.

If you are looking for something more simple, you can simply work with Disney PhotoPass photographers to help capture the moment. It helps if you give them a little heads up that you are planning to propose. But, I’ve seen them spring into action without warning and capture beautiful proposal pictures. They are true professionals!”

Mickey Takes a Tumble During Fantasmic

When it comes to live performances at Disney, anything can happen. Disney hires the best of the best, and they are truly talented people. Disney stage performers transport us to magical places where we can sing and dance along and have a great time. But they are just regular people, and sometimes things happen that are beyond their control. Like when there is water on a stage and their feet come out from under them. Slip and falls can happen, but one Disney Cast Member showed that an incredible recovery can add to the magic.

Fantasmic! at Disneyland Resort, takes place on a small stage along the Rivers of America. The show uses water effects that can make the stage a little slippery, which can make it hard for the performers. Recently, Mickey Mouse was dancing on the stage and took quite the fall. Thankfully, he recovered quickly, as fireworks were set to come out of his gloves whether he was ready or not. Ever the professional and star, Mickey acted as though nothing had happened and Guests were glad to see that he was okay.

A video of the fall was shared by Scott Gustin on Twitter, and you can watch it below.

Fantasmic! returned to Disneyland Park just about one week ago. It is also shown on the East Coast at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but that show does not currently have a return date. Here is more information on the fun and popular show from the Disneyland Resort website:

As darkness falls, dazzling special effects transform the Rivers of America into an epic canvas for this extravagant live show.

Fast asleep, Mickey dreams he is the Sorcerer’s Apprentice. With a wave of his hands, he conducts scenes from Fantasia across enormous screens of water while brilliant sparks burst overhead. Pink elephants, swashbuckling pirates, princesses and more—including memorable scenes from Disney classics such as Aladdin, The Lion King, Tangled and Pirates of the Caribbean—appear on and around the Rivers of America.

When Mickey is suddenly pulled into the Magic Mirror, his dream takes a dark turn. The Evil Queen from Snow White conjures up some of Disney’s most dastardly villains—including Maleficent as a 45-foot, fire-breathing dragon! Mickey must use the power of his imagination to vanquish his foes—and save the day.

Featuring a fantastical array of live performers, beloved Disney characters, enhanced special effects, state-of-the-art projections and superb pyrotechnics, this show will wow the entire family.

Fantasmic! is shown daily, weather permitting. To find out showtimes, you can check your Disneyland Resort mobile app.

Disney Executive Named In FBI Probe As Part of “Cabal”

When it comes to business in Anaheim, California, no one is bigger than Disney. The Disneyland Resort employs thousands of employees and brings millions of dollars into the city every year. For a long time, Disney pretty much got everything they wanted from the local government, including a $1 per year lease on one of its parking garages. Disney pays $1 per year to the city of Anaheim for use of the Mickey and Friends garage and gets to keep the rest of the money — and it currently charges $30 per vehicle, $40 if you want preferred parking.

Over the past few years, Disney and the city of Anaheim haven’t always been on the best terms, but Disney still seems to come out on top. According to an FBI affidavit that was recently made public, that is most likely because a Disneyland executive was part of a “cabal” that was pulling some of Anaheim’s major political strings. Disney was never officially named in the affidavit, it was just referred to as “Company A”. However, a person close to the investigation revealed that Disneyland Resort was, in fact, “Company A”. It is very important to note that the FBI affidavit has NOT accused Disney or the executive of any wrongdoing.

Carrie Nocella is Disneyland Resort Director of External Affairs, and a deep dive into the affidavit conducted by The Los Angeles Times shows just how involved she and others were in making sure political decisions made by the city favored “Company A.” Per The Times:

Company A came to light in a 99-page affidavit by FBI Special Agent Brian Adkins in support of a criminal complaint accusing Todd Ament, the former head of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, of lying to a mortgage lender.

The agent wrote that Ament and an unnamed political consultant “were the ring leaders of a small group of individuals who met in person to discuss strategy surrounding several matters within Anaheim — matters that were often pending, or soon to be pending, before the Anaheim City Council,” Adkins wrote.

The affidavit described Company A Employee — Nocella — as one of the group’s ringleaders “to some extent.”

In advance of a secretive gathering of Anaheim business leaders, consultants and politicians in December 2020, Adkins alleged Company A Employee provided input to Ament and the political consultant about who to invite.

Details about the consultant in the affidavit match Jeff Flint, chief executive and senior partner at FSB Public Affairs, who has represented Disneyland Resort. Flint, who announced last week that he was taking a leave of absence as CEO, denied doing anything wrong.

According to the affidavit, Nocella helped a political consultant for the city draft a meeting agenda script about issuing bonds to companies to help with shortfalls because of the pandemic. Just before a meeting where the script was supposed to be read, Nocella reached out to the political consultant and asked that any mention of Disney’s parking lot be removed.

Then-Anaheim mayor Harry Sidhu — who has since resigned due to a corruption probe involving Angels Stadium — spoke extensively about the agenda. Sidhu praised Disney and said that he believed they would continue to invest in the city of Anaheim for years to come. The affidavit states that Nocella was unimpressed and texted the political consultant about how poorly the script was read.

It is again important to note that Disney has not been accused of doing anything wrong. Nocella’s deep involvement in Anaheim politics only came to light because of the corruption probe against Sidhu. When asked about the affidavit by The Times, Disney made the following statement:

“We have seen media reports of the complaint and no authorities have reached out to us about it.”

Since the affidavit was made public, Nocella has deleted her social media accounts. She did not give a comment to The Times for the article.

‘Encanto’ Experience Coming to the Parks!

If you’re an Encanto fan, we have some exciting news for you as The Walt Disney Company’s CFO has confirmed an ‘Encanto’ Experience is coming soon.

The Walt Disney Animation Studios film, Encanto was released in November 2021 and Disney movie lovers haven’t stopped talking about it since. The diverse Madrigal Family is full of inspiring characters, and the award-winning music by Lin-Manuel Miranda is stuck in our heads on repeat. Disney isn’t keeping its Encanto success a secret as the film has already been deemed an upcoming franchise by Disney CEO Bob Chapek.

Lin Manuel Miranda recently confirmed that Disney is in talks over an Encanto experience within the Disney Parks. We’ve already seen an Encanto projection overlay at “it’s a small world” at Disneyland Resort as well as its spectacular Encanto float at Disneyland’s returned Main Street Electrical Parade. Plus, Mirabel Madrigal has been known to pop up for a character meet and greet opportunity at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure.

Now, Disney has announced Disneyland’s Tarzan’s Treehouse (similar to Walt Disney World Resort’s Swiss Family Treehouse) will be undergoing transformation. Rumors are swirling that the treehouse could be transformed into an Encanto attraction, but Disney has yet to confirm.

We Don't Talk About Bruno

On May 18, 2022, Senior Executive Vice President and CFO of The Walt Disney Company, Christine McCarthy, spoke at the MoffettNathanson 9th Annual Media & Communications Summit in which Encanto was mentioned.

Christine McCarthy was asked to talk about keeping Disney’s theme parks relevant. McCarthy stated:

So, our parks have been around for a long time. Disney World is celebrating its 50th. Disney Land is just celebrated its 65th, it’s now 66, soon to be 67. But if you went there in the ’60s or the ’70s or the ’80s, it’s not the same experience and even if you hadn’t been there four or five years you will go and you will find something that was updated, it may be a seasonal update, it may be something that we’ve pulled in from some of our great content, something that’s not yet really in the parks, but I think you will see it soon is something like Encanto.”

What was really just wonderful in the music that — elements of that could be incorporated into the park experience. Some of it will be transitory, some of it will be more permanent. Certainly, when we put like a Marvel or Avengers Campus, that’s more permanent. But we can do things with entertainment that really are relevant. So, I would say it’s cast, creativity and relevancy. And that unless you’re there with your eyes open and letting your — let you experience the heart and the mind, I don’t think people appreciate that.

encanto

Now that we have confirmation of Encanto’s growth from Bob Chapek, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Christine McCarthy – it sounds like we may be able to enjoy Encanto in the Parks sooner rather than later!

Having this in mind, you can imagine the surprise of many Guests and Cast Members when they saw George Lucas hanging out at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland on May the 4th. Ashleyy (@disneydayydreamer) posted a video on TikTok where “George” can be seen, seemingly mesmerized as he makes his way through the shops of Galaxy’s Edge, leaving the Cast Members and many Guests with a huge smile as he walks by.

This is definitely the best way to spend Star Wars day, although it sounds too good to be true, right? Well, that’s because, sadly, it is. Many viewers quickly commented that the man in the video was not actually George Lucas but that this Guest did a remarkable job making himself look like him.

TheThemeParkDuo (@thethemeparkduo) posted a video response confirming that the man in the video was not the mind behind the Star Wars universe. The impersonator tricked nearly everyone who saw him during yesterday’s happenings:
