France Extends Restrictions; Disneyland Paris Not Likely To Open Until Mid-July

Two of Disneyland Paris’ long-awaited summer events, Magical Pride and Electroland, have effectively been cancelled in light of new restrictions from the French government, which may also entail a delayed re-opening date for the resort itself.

President Emmanuel Macron has announced that the current lockdown would be extended for at least month, until May 11. The government has also cancelled all summer festivals and events through mid-July, including the popular Solidays music festival and even the Tour de France, both set to take place in late June. Electroland was scheduled for July 3 through the 5th, with featured headliners including Martin Garrix, Dimitri Vegas, and Like Mike.

Disneyland Paris remains closed “until further notice”, with its official re-opening facing inevitable postponement in light of these new regulations, which prohibit large public gatherings until at least mid-July in order to slow the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Disneyland Paris Princess Run Has Been Canceled

Disneyland Paris has announced the cancellation of the Disneyland Paris Princess Run, which was set to take place from May 8 to May 10 due to concerns over the Coronavirus pandemic.

Change-Ups Happening within the Walt Disney Company

In a surprising bit of news, Catherine Powell, President of the western region of Disney Parks, has left The Walt Disney Company. Powell was in charge of overseeing Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and Disneyland Paris. Her position has been eliminated, and now the presidents of each of the three resorts will report to Bob Chapek directly.

Bob Chapek, Chairman of Disney’s Parks, Experiences and Products division, now concentrates his power over Disney’s theme park portfolio with this change. This news comes after disappointing financial numbers at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Disneyland and Walt Disney World will see new Presidents in the coming weeks, with George Kalogridis, the current Walt Disney World President, moving to a new role.

Current Disneyland President Josh D’Amaro will move to Walt Disney World to oversee that resort. Rebecca Campbell, current head of Europe, Middle East and Africa segment of Direct-to-Consumer, will be promoted to President of the Disneyland Resort.

Disneyland Paris will be handed off to Michael Colglazier, current lead for Parks in Asia. Current leadership in Disneyland Paris otherwise remains unchanged, with Colglazier taking on the additional role of Disneyland Paris management. George Kalogridis, current President of Walt Disney World, will be promoted to President of Disney Segment Development and Enrichment.

Was this needed or were these major corporate changes unnecessary?

Avengers Coming to California Adventure and Disneyland Paris

California Adventure and Disneyland Paris will new Super Hero themed lands in the future. That was already known. What wasn’t known was what they would be called.

Yesterday, Disney announced these fantastic lands will be called Avengers Campus.

When guests visit Avengers Campus, they will become part of an interconnected, global story that spans from California to Paris to Hong Kong with the Avengers recruiting new extraordinary people to join them.

Inside the pavilion at D23 Expo, guests will be able to see an in-story experience where they’ll learn why the Avengers are building these campuses. And on Sunday, more details will be shared about what the guests will be able to experience when they open.

The pavilion will also feature many of the attractions and lands coming to sites around the world including TRON Lightcycle Run coming to Magic Kingdom Park, as well as additional expansions in Tokyo and Hong Kong.

This will only be one of many announcements at this year’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. Stay tuned for more updates.
