Disney World Terminal Talks Continuing With Virgin Trains USA

In what is a welcome piece of news for guests visiting Disney World from outside the Orlando area, Disney and Virgin Trains USA are in advanced talks for a train station to built on or near the resort. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Michael Cegelis, Virgin’s EVP for Infrastructure, told local officials that talks with Disney are in a “rather advanced state now.”

This station, whether built on or near Disney property, would be a part of the proposed rail line to Tampa. The Tampa rail line would start at the Orlando International Airport, the termination of the Miami to Orlando line which is slated to open in 2022.

“While we have not yet made any definitive commitment, we have mutually agreed to more formally explore developing a train station on our property,” stated a Disney official, “As the top vacation destination and largest single-site employer in the United States, Walt Disney World Resort is an obvious choice for a rail station between Orlando International Airport and Tampa.”

Virgin is still working with the Central Florida Expressway Authority, the Florida Department of Transportation and the Orlando Utilities Commission to negotiate leases and right-of-ways for the Orlando to Tampa line. Additional proposed stops on this rail line include the SunRail Meadow Woods station and Lakeland.

Construction of a Walt Disney World rail station would provide guests another option in traveling to and from the resort. A high-speed rail line would provide a quick and inexpensive option for guests traveling from the airport, downtown Orlando, and even Tampa.

Disney+ Testing Autoplay Function

While we’re still out here twiddling our thumbs till the official launch of Disney+, testing for the streaming service and its app are well underway in the Netherlands. Resources like disneyplusser.nl have been posting on all the latest updates, most notably the addition of the Autoplay function in the latest app update.

The latest 1.1.0 update for the Disney Plus app brings the addition of a lower-half countdown screen during the credits of the end of an episode, featuring a thumbnail and details of the following episode (episode number, name, season.) The next episode then starts automatically after a few seconds. This feature was not available in the old 1.0.3 version of the app. However, it is unknown whether the autoplay function will work on all devices.

If you are lucky enough to be in the test group for Disney+ and have not been able to switch to the new version yet, this latest update is being rolled out in phases to keep from overloading local servers, and may take several days.

Disney Sells Land Next to Vero Beach Resort

Disney has sold off approximately 26 acres of land next to Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, according to TC Palm‘s Colleen Wixon.

DVCNews.com reports that the land was previously earmarked for a resort expansion that was ultimately canceled due to low timeshare sales at the resort. The land that was sold is west of the resort’s parking lot, on the western end of S.R. A1A, not including the existing resort support facilities, recreation and parking facilities on that end of the road. The pond adjacent to the facilities is included in the sale.

The land has been sold to GHO Homes, who will build single-family homes and attached villas on the property. The residential development is still being designed, with sales likely beginning in 2021. GHO Homes’ president, Bill Handler, did not reveal the purchase price of the property. Earlier this year, the 32.6 acres of the resort was appraised at $4.6 million, according to Indian River County records.

This sale is not expected to affect existing operations at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort. Disney Vacation Development, Inc. has not issued any comment on the manner.
