Disney and Pixar’s ‘Onward’ to Arrive Early on Digital and Disney+

The Walt Disney Studios announced today (March 20) that Disney and Pixar’s Onward will be available to buy digitally and on Movies Anywhere beginning today at 5 p.m. PST/8 p.m. EST and on Disney+ on April 3 in the U.S. Check out the details below from The Walt Disney Company:

The film premiered in theaters on March 6 and earned rave reviews from audiences, including a 95% Verified Audience Score on RottenTomatoes. With cinemas currently impacted by closures due to the global health crisis, Disney will offer the film ahead of schedule to purchase on digital platforms in the U.S. beginning today at 5 p.m. PST/8 p.m. EST for $19.99.

“While we’re looking forward to audiences enjoying our films on the big screen again soon, given the current circumstances, we are pleased to release this fun, adventurous film to digital platforms early for audiences to enjoy from the comfort of their homes,” said Dan Scanlon (Director, Onward) and Kori Rae (Producer, Onward).

In Onward, teenage elf brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot (voices of Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) get an unexpected opportunity to spend one more day with their late dad, embarking on an extraordinary quest aboard Barley’s epic van Guinevere. Like any good quest, their journey is filled with magic spells, cryptic maps, impossible obstacles and unimaginable discoveries. But when the boys’ fearless mom Laurel (voice of Julia Louis-Dreyfus) realizes her sons are missing, she teams up with a part-lion, part-bat, part-scorpion, former warrior—aka The Manticore (voice of Octavia Spencer)—and heads off to find them. Perilous curses aside, this one magical day could mean more than any of them ever dreamed.

Disney Moves Up Release Date of Frozen 2 On Disney+ 3 Months Early

For those that are ready to head Into The Unknown again, you are in luck! The parks may be closing down temporarily, but Disney+ is here to remind us that we can still have some Disney magic, even while cooped up at home.

D23 has just announced that the movie’s release has been moved up three months in advance––from June 26 to this weekend on March 15. Here’s to hoping you bought some snacks and popcorn on that grocery/toilet paper shopping run this morning!

With a slew of other movie releases like “Mulan” now delayed, Disney is doing their best to keep fans happy and entertained amidst the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Depending on how long the effects of the pandemic last, we’re likely to see even more releases bumped up ahead of schedule.

Beauty And The Beast Prequel Series Currently In Development For Disney+

It has been reported by The Hollywood Reporter that a prequel spin-off series to the 2017 live-action “Beauty and the Beast” is currently in development.

To make this news even more exciting, it has been confirmed that the series will star Luke Evans and Josh Gad, reprising their roles as Gaston and LeFou. While no further information has been released regarding storylines or setting, just the thought of having LeFou and Gaston in a series is enough to sell us. Will it be the story of how the best buds met? Will it document what Gaston was like when he only ate four dozen eggs every morning? The possibilities are endless.

The series is currently in the early development stages, but has been confirmed for Disney+. It will be a six-part musical series, with Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz co-writing, along with Josh Gad himself. While no other stars are currently reported as attached to the movie, such as Emma Watson or Dan Stevens, Alan Menken is in talks to return to compose the score.
