Get the popcorn ready as September 4th will be here before we know it! As we previously shared, the live-action Mulan film is set to premier on Disney+ for a fee.
Disney+ now has a landing page designated to Mulan stating the Disney+ exclusive starts September 4 with Premier Access for $29.99 before it’s available to all Disney+ subscribers.
The landing page also notes Mulan is exclusively available to Disney+ subscribers and can be streamed in stunning quality with UHD, HDR, and Dolby Audio. Even better, you can pay once for Mulan and stream and download as long as you have Disney+.
A new trailer has also launched on the landing page:
It has been reported that Disney+ is working on a movie adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical “Once On This Island”.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the adaptation is set to be written by Jocelyn Bioh, with Wanuri Kahiu on board to direct. The musical will be produced by Marc Platt.
The musical, with a book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty, is a stunning, calypso-inspired adaptation of the novel “My Love, My Love; or The Peasant Girl” by Rosa Guy. It is described by many as being similar to a romantic island retelling of Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Little Mermaid”. “Once On This Island,” tells the story of Ti Moune, an orphaned peasant girl on her journey to reunite with her rich love Daniel, as the Gods watch on with a wager over whether her love can overcome the power of death.
A Broadway revival of the musical in 2017 threw “Once On This Island” back into the recent spotlight since its limited run in the mid-1990s. This Tony Award-winning revival featured the Disney on Broadway alum Merle Dandridge as Papa Ge, the sly demon of death, and Disney Legend Lea Salonga as Erzuile, the beautiful goddess of love. So far, no casting has been announced for this adaptation, which is set to run as a live-action movie, rather than a professionally-recorded performance like other musicals in the Disney+ library (such as “Newsies).
With the recent success of “Hamilton” on Disney+, which saw a huge increase in app downloads after it’s debut on the service last month, we can only hope that Disney+ is trying to expand its library with more musical titles.
Today, Disney+ shared a new trailer for its upcoming out-of-this-world original movie, “Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe”, which premieres on Friday, August 28.

David Errigo Jr. joins the cast as Ferb Fletcher
Back in March, we learned a prequel to the 2017 live action film, Beauty and the Beast, would be coming to Disney+. Now, the composer for the new film, Alan Menken, has revealed the title!
In an interview with Variety Menken shared, “I’m excited about the projects I’m doing. I’m working on “Disenchanted” and a new “Beauty and the Beast” prequel, “The Little Town” I’ve also been working on the new animated picture “Spellbound” with John Lasseter. And I’m doing a bunch of Broadway shows.
Decider shares some insight on what we know so far about the film, and what the name Little Town likely stems from:
The name Little Town likely comes from “Belle,” the opening song in Beauty and the Beast, as Collider points out. The lyrics include the lines “Little town, It’s a quiet village, Every day, Like the one before, Little town, Full of little people, Waking up to say.”
Decider goes on to share: Both Luke Evans and Josh Gad are returning to reprise their roles from the 2017 live action film. Evans will return to his role as Gaston, the arrogant and greedy hunter determined to have Belle all to himself. Gad will play LeFou, Gaston’s loyal sidekick. Neither Watson nor Dan Stevens, who starred as the Beast in the Disney film, are expected to return for Little Town.
Little Town does not have a release date yet, but it’s likely that whatever tentative premiere the series set was pushed back by the coronavirus pandemic. Since the Beauty and the Beast prequel hasn’t begun production yet, we don’t expect to see it hit streaming any time soon.
