Disney+ Reportedly Developing Adult-Oriented Section and Parental Controls

Disney+ has become the home of family-friendly content, but there may soon be even more fun for grown-ups.

According to several sources, the streaming service is reportedly developing an adult-oriented section to house more films and television shows from the 20th Century Studios and Touchstone Pictures libraries.

Film critic and YouTube star Grace Randolph reported the news on Tuesday, adding that the section would be accessible through a pin code, which would act as a parental control.

Editor in Chief of The Digital Bits Bill Hunt claims that the section would also be the home for a large amount of content available in 4K. (He later corrected his statement, saying he erroneously named independent studio MGM instead of the Disney-owned Touchstone.) With Disney+ continuing its international expansion, his would bring the libraries to a much larger audience than the Disney majority-owned Hulu, which currently serves only the United States and Japan.

What’s on Disney Plus added that Disney has recently sent out surveys about more adult-themed shows like “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer,” “Firefly,” and “Modern Family.” Recently, Disney CEO Bob Chapek announced that the company would launch a international general entertainment streaming service under the Star brand next year, which would host more mature content, similar to Hulu, which is majority owned by Disney. It’s unknown whether the possible Disney+ section would bear the Star name.

While it hasn’t been officially announced, such hits as “The Golden Girls,” Dead Poets SocietyPretty Woman and the Deadpool films could soon have a home on Disney+.
