“Hocus Pocus 2,” Coming to Disney+ in Fall 2022

Disney announced via press release that Hocus Pocus 2 will star the original three witches: Bette Midler as Winifred Sanderson, Sarah Jessica Parker as Sarah Sanderson, and Kathy Najimy as Mary Sanderson.

The return of the Sanderson Sisters was already known, but the scale of their role was uncertain. Disney has confirmed the three will play starring roles in the new film, alongside three yet-to-be-announced younger stars, who “accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to modern-day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on the world.”

The film was previously thought to be directed by Adam Shankman. However, due to scheduling conflicts with Disenchanted, Shankman has stepped into the Executive Producer role, and the directorship has gone to Anne Fletcher (The Proposal27 Dresses).

“As heartbroken as I am that I won’t be able to direct my friends Bette, Sarah Jessica, and Kathy in what is sure to be nothing short of a major event for Disney+ due to scheduling conflicts, I couldn’t be more pleased to be handing over the reins to Anne, who has brought so much laughter and joy into people’s lives with her previous work,” Shankman said.

Composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz are back to write new songs for the musical.

Also returning to the cast is Patrick Dempsey as Giselle’s husband, the cynical pragmatist Robert Philip; James Marsden as the dashing but daft Prince Edward from Andalasia;and Idina Menzel as Nancy Tremaine, the former dressmaker now married to Prince Edward. Maya Rudolph will be playing Malvina, the film’s villain, and Kolton Stewart will be playing her son. Also among the cast are Yvette Nicole Brown as Rosalyn, Jayma Mays as Ruby, Oscar Nunez as Edgar, and Gabriella Baldacchino as Robert’s teenage daughter, Morgan. This is 19-year-old Baldacchino’s feature film debut. The seven dwarfs will also reportedly make an appearance.

“Working again with Disney has been like coming home,” says director/producer Adam Shankman. “With Amy and this extraordinary cast, Alan and Stephen’s mind-blowing new score, and Barry and Disney’s support, I just hope to bring magic and joy to audiences around the world.”

Producer Barry Josephson says, “I guess dreams do come true…producing Enchanted was the most rewarding film experience I’ve ever had. I’m so excited for Adam Shankman to begin filming Disenchanted. I want to thank everyone at Disney for supporting us all the way. Very special thanks to Amy Adams for deciding to play ‘Giselle,’ the character she created again! And we are so fortunate to have this incredible cast!”

Disenchanted features the much-anticipated return of Giselle, the princess from the fairy tale world of Andalasia banished to Manhattan who found her real Princess Charming in divorce lawyer Robert Philip. 15 years later, Giselle moves to the suburb of Monroeville with Robert and their teenage daughter Morgan, where she must juggle the challenges that come with a new home and discover what happily ever after truly means to her and her new family.
