‘Percy Jackson’ Scores Season 2!

It’s no secret that things have been rough for Disney when it comes to its streaming service, Disney+. Disney recently shared that, because of the recent price hike, the streamer had lost 1.3 million subscribers. There have also been a number of series cancellations, including The Mysterious Benedict Society, Big Shot, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, and National Treasure: Edge of History.

However, it is not all bad news. In fact, there is some really good news.

On December 19, 2023, Disney released its newest original series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The series stars Walker Scobel as Percy Jackson, a 12-year-old demigod who is accused of stealing Zeus’ lightning bolt. Along with his friends, Annabeth and Grover, Percy must fight unimaginable monsters, find the lightning bolt, and restore order to Olympus.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians was an immediate hit, breaking records for Disney+, Hulu, and even TikTok, just one week after its release. And Disney has now shared that the success of Percy Jackson has earned the show a second season!

During its fourth-quarter earnings call, news of the new Percy Jackson season was shared by Disney CEO, Bob Iger.

Price Hike Costs Disney+ More Than 1 Million Subscribers

When The Walt Disney Company launched its very own streaming service — Disney+ — in November 2019, it was touted as the ultimate streaming platform for Disney fans. Not only could subscribers watch some of their favorite Disney movies and television shows, but Disney was also dedicating a lot of time and money to creating new and original content.

One of the great things about Disney+ when it first launched was its affordability. Subscribers would pay just $6.99 per month and would have access to everything the site had to offer. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Disney did launch Premier Access, in which subscribers would have to pay $19.99 if they wanted to watch a brand-new release, but the monthly and yearly prices remained low.

Things have changed a lot in four years, and Disney+ has seen a drastic price increase. The ad-supported tier of Disney+ now costs $7.99 per month. But subscribers who want to enjoy their favorite movies and shows without ads have to pay $13.99 per month.

In October 2023, Disney announced that the ad-free tier of Disney+ would go from $10.99 per month to $13.99 per month, a nearly 30% increase.

And now, it looks like Disney is seeing the cost of their massive price hike.

On February 7, Disney released its earnings for the first quarter of the 2024 fiscal year. In that report, it revealed that it had lost a whopping 1.3 MILLION subscribers after the price hike went into effect. However, Disney remains optimistic and still plans to add between five and six million subscribers to its platform by the end of the current quarter, which ends in March.

In just four years, Disney+ cost The Walt Disney Company nearly $11 billion. When he returned as CEO after the firing of Bob Chapek, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that he would be taking a more critical approach to Disney+.

Since then, Disney+ has canceled a number of original series — including Doogie Kamealoha MD, The Mysterious Benedict Society, and National Treasure: Edge of History. Disney also shelved two series that had been filmed, but not yet aired — Nautilus and The Spiderwick Chronicles.

By focusing on Disney+, Iger had managed to cut the streamer’s losses to just $300 million last quarter. That is a massive drop from the losses that Disney+ was experiencing before Iger retook the reins.

While he was CEO, Bob Chapek said that the company expected to have Disney+ profitable by 2024. He is currently facing multiple lawsuits because of those statements. Bob Iger has remained quiet on when he thinks Disney+ will see a profit.

‘Star Wars’ and ‘Toy Story’ Fans Mourn the Death of Iconic Actor

“An exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life . . . “

tar Wars and Toy Story fans, as well as Hollywood today, are mourning the loss of a beloved actor whose career spanned almost 50 years and whose roles became icons in the film industry.

The Mandalorian' Star Dies at Age 76, Family Confirms - Inside the Magic

Actor Carl Weathers, the actor who starred as Apollo Creed in the first four films of the Rocky franchise, died on Thursday morning in his sleep, per an announcement from his family. He was 76 years old.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers,” his family said in a statement. “He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1, 2024.

Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts, and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”

Some of Weathers’ most memorable roles included Apollo Creed in the Rocky films, Chubbs Peterson, the golf mentor and coach to Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore in the film of the same name, and Al Dillon in Predator (1987).

Chubbs’ backstory includes an alligator attack, during which the professional golfer lost his hand and had it replaced with a wooden hand. As such, he had to step away from his professional golf tour. The wooden replacement hand was at the center of Adam Sandler’s comedic prowess in scenes with Weathers during the film.

Per Deadline, Weathers was hurt while filming a stunt for Happy Gilmore:

[Weathers] was badly injured while filming a fall stunt during the Happy Gilmore shoot, leading to years of terrible pain. “I didn’t know it until years later, but I fractured two vertebrae, and osteophytes grew out and connected, and it did a kind of self-fuse in a really bad place,” he told GQ in a 2020 interview. “There were three or four years there where I was just in excruciating pain.”

Aside from his comedic role in the film, Weathers proved he could sing, too, at the end of Happy Gilmore, when he channeled his inner Carpenters, singing “We’ve Only Just Begun” in Heaven.

The famous actor also lent his trademark voice to the Combat Carl character in the 2013 made-for-television Toy Story special Toy Story of Terror, as well as in 2019’s Toy Story 4.

Weathers also starred opposite the bounty hunter Din Djarin, played by actor Pedro Pascal, as the High Magistrate Greef Karga, the head of the Bounty Hunters Guild in the Star Wars-inspired series for Disney+, The Mandalorian.

Weathers appeared in nine episodes of the series’ first three seasons, earning an Emmy nomination in 2021. He went on to direct two episodes in Season 2 and Season 3 of the Star Wars spinoff series.

Weathers will be greatly missed by his fans, his family, and his friends. Our sympathy, thoughts, and prayers are with all of those affected by his loss during this difficult time.

Disney and Tech Giant Apple Officially Join Forces

Friday morning marked the beginning of a new era in digital entertainment as The Walt Disney Company and tech giant Apple officially became partners after years of speculation about a possible collaboration. But fans are shocked by what was left out of the partnership.

For nearly 140 years, the second day of February has been known as the day a furry, burrowing creature emerges from his slumber in the ground, checks the weather outside, and looks to see whether he’s cast a shadow on the surface of the earth.

Somehow, the presence or absence of that shadow predicts whether we’ll have an early spring or six more weeks of winter.

But Friday gave a new significance to the date, serving as the first official day of a new Disney and Apple partnership with the unveiling of the tech giant’s newest gadget, the Apple Vision Pro.

First announced in June 2023, the Apple Vision Pro is a virtual reality (VR) headset that Apple describes as a “spatial computer that transforms how people work, collaborate, connect, relive memories, and enjoy entertainment.” But as Apple is a tech company known for creating breakthrough technologies in computers, laptops, smartphones, tablets, and digital devices and gadgets, the entity needed a partner who could provide the aforementioned entertainment.

Who better to answer the call than The Walt Disney Company?

Friday marked the first day that Apple’s new $3500 gadget is available at Apple Store locations across the U.S. and at the Apple Store online as well. And Disney has promised some revolutionary new content–that is, a revolutionary way of enjoying that content.

The new Apple Vision Pro VR headsets offer more than 40 Disney-produced titles available for purchase in a 3D format that brings the magic of the films to life like never before. Below is a list of the 42 titles available on Apple Vision Pro.

Some Disney fans point out, however, that the list of Disney-owned film titles available in a 3D format on Apple’s new device is missing several of the classics for which the company is known, including Disney’s Cinderella (1950), Frozen (2013), Pixar’s Toy Story franchise, and others.
