Disney has modified the release date for the highly anticipated sequel ‘Disenchanted,’ but is this change really that bad?
Fans had waited 15 years to learn more about the story of Giselle and Robert Philip after the characters captivated the hearts of millions in 2007 when Enchanted was released. While Disney announced the premiere date for the highly anticipated sequel during Disney’s D23 Expo earlier this year, the company has decided to change the release date, previously scheduled for November 24, 2022.
While these changes often mean fans will have to anxiously wait for the film’s premiere for even longer, the recent change was actually for the best, as Disenchanted is now scheduled to premiere on November 18, per a Disney press release, almost a whole week ahead of its original schedule!
The magical teaser trailer for the all-new live-action musical comedy “Disenchanted,” which premiered at the D23 Expo 2022 in the Anaheim Convention Center moments ago, is here! The eagerly-anticipated sequel to “Enchanted,” which reunites original cast members Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Idina Menzel, and James Marsden and also stars Maya Rudolph, Gabriella Baldacchino, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Jayma Mays, is directed by Adam Shankman and features new songs from Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. “Disenchanted” begins streaming November 24, exclusively on Disney+…just in time to brighten up the holiday season.
It has been 15 years since Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) wed, but Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy tale life. Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever. Frustrated that her happily ever after hasn’t been so easy to find, she turns to the magic of Andalasia for help, accidentally transforming the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and placing her family’s future happiness in jeopardy. Now, Giselle is in a race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after truly means to her and her family.
“Disenchanted stars Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jayma Mays, Gabriella Baldacchino, with Idina Menzel and James Marsden. “Working again with Disney has been like coming home,” says director/producer Adam Shankman. “With Amy and this extraordinary cast, Alan and Stephen’s mind-blowing new score, and Barry and Disney’s support, I just hope to bring magic and joy to audiences around the world.”
Producer Barry Josephson says, “I guess dreams do come true…producing Enchanted was the most rewarding film experience I’ve ever had. I’m so excited for Adam Shankman to begin filming Disenchanted. I want to thank everyone at Disney for supporting us all the way. Very special thanks to Amy Adams for deciding to play ‘Giselle,’ the character she created again! And we are so fortunate to have this incredible cast!”
Disenchanted features the much-anticipated return of Giselle, the princess from the fairy tale world of Andalasia banished to Manhattan who found her real Princess Charming in divorce lawyer Robert Philip. 15 years later, Giselle moves to the suburb of Monroeville with Robert and their teenage daughter Morgan, where she must juggle the challenges that come with a new home and discover what happily ever after truly means to her and her new family.
We previously shared the exciting news from Disney’s Investor Day that a sequel to “Enchanted” called “Disenchanted” would be coming to Disney+ with Amy Adams returning as Giselle! As if that wasn’t exciting enough, a few weeks later we learned that Patrick Dempsey would be returning as Robert Phillip. Now we’re learning “Disenchanted” is scheduled to begin filming this Spring!
As shared via TheDisInsider: It looks like the gears are turning and the film will hit production soon. Disenchanted will begin filming this Spring in Ireland. The news is interesting as the first film took place in New York, and it should be noted that Ireland looks like the land of Andalasia, the animated land Giselle is from.
In a recent “Talk Back” interview with Young Artists of America, composer and Disney Legend Alan Menken has revealed an exciting array of projects he is currently involved with for Disney. Having composed the magical and iconic scores for many of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ biggest hits, we’re definitely excited to hear what Menken has been up to, and getting some sneak details on what we can expect!
The first thing Menken mentioned in the interview was “Disenchanted”, the sequel to the 2007 live action/animated crossover movie. Along with fellow composer Steven Schwartz, Menken has been writing new music for the new movie, to carry the feel from the original. We have known that this sequel was going to come about for over five years now, and it was way back in 2016 that Amy Adams was confirmed to reprise her role as Giselle in the movie, which will be directed by Alan Shankman (“Hairspray”). Hearing Menken discuss his work on the movie implies that the production could be coming along, so we’ll definitely look forward to more details about that in the future!
Another exciting project mentioned by Menken is the upcoming live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid”. We learned that Halle Bailey had been cast to play Ariel in the movie last summer, and in his interview Menken shared that Melissa McCarthy will be playing Ursula, Javier Bardem will be playing King Triton, Awkwafina will be Scuttle, and Daveed Diggs will play Sebastian. Lin Manuel Miranda is also on-board, co-writing four new original songs for the movie. Menken discussed that he had been in London with the cast recently to record the music from the film, which was luckily completed before the COVID-19 outbreak lockdown in the UK.
It was exciting to hear Menken discussing some of his upcoming stage projects. First, a musical version of “Night at the Museum” is being written and is in early reading stages. Second, Menken mentioned that he has been working on the stage adaptation of “Hercules”, which will be moving to Broadway soon.
Back in March, we reported that a prequel series to the live-action “Beauty and the Beast” was in development for Disney+. Focusing on the backstory of Gaston and Le Fou, it was reported that Luke Evans and Josh Gad would reprise their roles for the show, and Menken has confirmed he is working on new songs for this too. Finally, Alan Menken briefly mentioned that he has been working on an upcoming animation with John Lasseter, more details of which he did not share.
You can watch the full interview from YAA here. Alan Menken is one brilliant and busy composer and we can’t wait to hear his scores and find out more details about what he has been working on!
