Top Entertainment Experiences Currently Open or Coming Back Soon

Via DisDining.com

No one does entertainment like Disney!  So when we visit Walt Disney World, we always fit in as many live entertainment experiences as we can.  Like everything else, the number and kind of live shows available in WDW has changed during the pandemic.  But the good news is that there are many live entertainment experiences currently open, or that will soon be back, in altered formats to ensure everyone’s safety.  Here are a few!

1. Festival of the Lion King

If you’ve been missing Festival of the Lion King, you’ll be thrilled to know that a modified version will return to Disney’s Animal Kingdom this summer. While we have no official start date, Disney has announced a “mid-May” debut! The show has been updated to allow for physical distancing, and you’ll notice a difference in seating arrangements at Harambe Theatre too, with a goal of keeping cast members and guests safe while they enjoy the show. We can’t wait to join the celebration of this spectacular live show!

2. Voices of Liberty

I’ll never forget stumbling onto a live performance by the incomparable Voices of Liberty at Disney’s Epcot – it was an utterly magical moment!  And there are plenty more magical moments in store for guests, as the group performs daily at America Gardens Theatre (with a totally new repertoire, featuring a healthy heaping of Disney favorites!).  If you’ve never treated yourself to the dulcet tones of the Voices of Liberty, now’s the perfect time, and if you’ve been missing their stunning vocal acrobatics, welcome back!

3. Feathered Friends in Flight

The latest in a series of shows featuring live birds at the Caravan Stage Theater in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Feathered Friends in Flight has been entertaining guests since the park reopened in summer 2020.  It’s hosted by actual animal trainers at WDW, and showcases the natural talents and survival techniques used by birds in the wild.  The show features several different bird species, many of which you’ll see flying overhead; you’ll learn a thing or two about our amazing feathered friends while seeing them in action!

4. Cirque du Soleil and Disney – Drawn to Life

If you never got to experience the La Nouba show by Cirque du Soleil at Disney Springs before it closed in 2017, you’ll be just as excited as I am for Drawn to Life!  A collaboration between Cirque du Soleil and Disney (I’m in!), this new live show is a delightful collision of Disney animation and gravity-defying acrobatics.  Performers interpret classic Disney animation through choreography, inspiring costuming and even an all-new score – with classic Disney music as its inspiration, of course.  We’re told the stage is actually designed as a larger-than-life animation table!  While we don’t have an exact opening date to share with you yet, Drawn to Life is coming “later this fall” to Walt Disney World – and we can’t wait!

5. For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration

Do you have a Frozen fan in your household?  If so, you’ll want to head to For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration in Disney’s Hollywood Studios on your next WDW vacation.  Performed several times daily, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to belt out all of your favorite Frozen songs along with Elsa, Anna and Kristoff, and you’ll enjoy your favorite scenes from the movie – wearing a mask and in physically distanced seats, of course, for safety!

6. Dapper Dans

Ah, Dapper Dans, how we’ve missed you!  Thankfully, this iconic barbershop quartet has returned to Disney’s Magic Kingdom, putting smiles on faces up and down Main Street USA.  You’ll find them in the train station or on a trolley car now, but the stellar harmonies and wacky humor you love are the same as you remember!  The Dapper Dans perform 20-minute shows throughout the day.

7. Grand Floridian Pianist

We’re still mourning the departure of the unparalleled Grand Floridian Society Orchestra, but there’s good news – the Grand Floridian Pianist has returned to the lobby of Disney’s flagship resort!  Safely physically distanced and wearing a mask, this maestro of the keys will entertain and delight music lovers of all ages.  There’s something so magical about live music in the posh lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, and we couldn’t be happier!

Cirque du Soleil’s Drawn to Life to Open “Sometime in the Fall”

Cirque du Soleil’s “La Nouba” show at Disney Springs closed on December 31, 2017. While the massive tent on the West Side of Disney Springs has remained without a Cirque du Soleil show since, a new show was announced called “Drawn to Life” presented by Cirque du Soleil & Disney. The show has been highly anticipated but due to the pandemic, we’ve had some highs and lows when it comes to debut dates. Well, now we are learning at least a season confirmation… “sometime in the fall”.

Due to COVID-19, the initial April 17, 2020 “Drawn to Life” debut was cancelled. The next debut date released was November 5, 2020 which was then pushed back to February 10, 2021. Unfortunately, the February date was cancelled and we haven’t received a date since.

As reported by LA Times during a discussion with Cirque Chief Executive Daniel Lamarre: “Cirque is also working on setting a new opening date for “Drawn to Life,” its collaboration with Disney that was set to open in Orlando, Fla., last year. “It’s a tribute to Disney animation, and we felt honored to have the opportunity to do a show with the IP [intellectual property] of Disney,” Lamarre said. “We should be able to open sometime in the fall.”

The Cirque du Soleil and Disney – Drawn to Life website explains the new show as a “first-of-its-kind creative collaboration between iconic memory makers Cirque du Soleil and Disney. Drawn to Life invites you into an astounding world where the art of Walt Disney Animation is experienced like never before. Gather your whole family for an unforgettable leap into this amazing new show—a live acrobatic journey where our stage is transformed into a giant animation table. The art of classic Disney animation is reinterpreted through innovative design, acrobatic performances, dazzling choreography, eclectic costuming, all-new Disney animation and an original score inspired by timeless Disney music. The show is absolutely alive with all the high-flying, mind-blowing exuberance that Cirque du Soleil is famous for.”

When tickets were for sale prices ranged from $79 to $179 depending on your seat selection. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as we learn more about a possible debut date for this highly anticipated show! We will do our best to keep waiting patiently in the meantime!

New Disney Cirque du Soleil Show “Drawn to Life” Expected to Debut This Fall at Disney Springs

Drawn to Life, the new show expected to replace La Nouba in Disney Springs, was notably absent from the list of shows announced today by Cirque du Soleil to be returning to the stage.

Thankfully Cirque du Soleil CEO, Daniel Lamarre, gave an idea of the opening date in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.

“It’s a tribute to Disney animation, and we felt honored to have the opportunity to do a show with the IP [intellectual property] of Disney,” Lamarre said. “We should be able to open sometime in the fall.”

Fall 2021 is going to be a busy time at Walt Disney World® Resort, as the 50th Anniversary celebration of Magic Kingdom® Theme Park is planned to begin October 1, 2021.

La Nouba was the original Cirque du Soleil show on Disney property, and ran for 19 years from 1998 to 2017. It was housed in a free-standing theatre that resembled a white tent in Disney Springs.

Drawn to Life is the story of the love between a father and a daughter. Delightful, mesmerizing movements of Cirque du Soleil acrobatic mastery pair with the magic of Disney animation to accentuate the show. The main character is Julie, a courageous and determined young girl. Her father, Tom, was a Disney animator who raised his daughter and surrounded her with Disney animated characters who helped her grow and played important roles in her life.

Cirque du Soleil’s “Drawn to Life” Show Slated to Debut at Disney Springs This Year

Via wdwnt.com

Cirque du Soleil’s new “Drawn to Life” show was slated to open at Disney Springs in early 2020, but unfortunately was delayed repeatedly due to the COVID-19 closure. In March, Cirque du Soleil laid off 95% of their employees, and a couple of months later, they filed for bankruptcy. “Drawn to Life” was eventually scheduled for a November opening, but this was canceled with no further updates.

Finally, Disney has acknowledged the upcoming show. While they haven’t announced a new opening date, the show is listed in Disney Parks Blog’s “21 Ways to Kick Off 2021 with Magic at Walt Disney World Resort”.

Disney Parks Blog describes “Drawn to Life” as “a collaboration between Cirque du Soleil, Walt Disney Animation Studios and Walt Disney Imagineering.” Given it is listed along with Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, which seems poised to open any day now, hopefully “Drawn to Life” is coming sooner rather than later.
