WDW Donates $20,000 in Wishing Well Coins to Homeless Charity

Have you ever made a wish in the wishing well near Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom? Or maybe you’ve tossed a coin in the “it’s a small world” water? Walt Disney World gathers up those coins periodically and donates them. Their most recent donation was $20,000 for a local homeless charity.

As shared by WESH.com: Some $20,000 in coins that tourists tossed into Walt Disney World’s wishing wells and fountains became a Thanksgiving gift for Central Florida’s largest homeless shelter.

Allison Krall is the CEO of the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida. She says she’s thankful, especially with everything Disney has gone through during the coronavirus pandemic.

The coins were dropped in the wishing well at Cinderella’s Castle, along the waterways of the “It’s a Small World” ride, and in fountains throughout the local parks.

Walt DIsney World To Send Excess Food To Second Harvest Food Bank

Disney has long-supported charitable organizations in their parks’ communities, donating to causes like Second Harvest among others. And this is set to continue during the temporary closure of Walt Disney World in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. And none too soon, with thousands of workers across the Orlando area displaced, and many living paycheck-to-paycheck.

According to Disney Parks Blog, Disney will donate various items as part of the Disney Harvest program:

Walt Disney World Resort will donate excess food inventory like fresh salads, greens and expertly cooked hot items to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, as part of the ongoing Disney Harvest program. Launched in 1991, Disney Harvest collects excess and unserved food from locations throughout Walt Disney World, delivering it to feeding programs across Central Florida.

The Walt Disney World Resort donates over 823,000 pounds of prepared but unserved food to Second Harvest annually. These meals are distributed to over 40 Orlando-area nonprofits, and helped provide over one million meals last year, according to Disney.
