Disney Cast Members Receive New “EARidescent” Name Tags for 50th Anniversary

The 50th Anniversary celebrations beginning October 1, 2021 are gearing up! As the excitement builds, President of Walt Disney World Resort, Jeff Vahle, took to social media to share the first look at new name tags Cast Members are receiving for the celebration.

As shared via Jeff Vahle Instagram: “One of the most memorable moments in my career was when I received my first nametag and officially became a Cast Member. It’s a huge part of our culture and heritage shared by all Cast at Disney. As we prepare to celebrate our 50th anniversary this October, I am thrilled to preview new nametags in development, designed to bring some additional shimmer to our Cast Members providing countless memories for Guests. The new EARidescent design will premiere later this fall; I can’t wait to see the team receive them as we start The World’s Most Magical Celebration together.”

80% of Cast Members Recalled Have Returned to Jobs at Disney Parks

Alongside the news that capacity at Walt Disney World has already been increased from 35% and will be increased again “immediately,” CEO Bob Chapek brought up the return of Cast Members to the parks.

In an interview with CNBC, Chapek said, “80% of the Cast Members, that we called back who unfortunately we had to furlough,” showed a “willingness and zealotry” to bring magic back to the parks.

Since the parks’ closure for the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, more than 32,000 Cast Members were laid off or furloughed. Many struggled with unemployment and relied on local food banks for support. Furloughs continued to be extended even after Walt Disney World Resort reopened in July 2020.

Disneyland Resort didn’t reopen until last month, but Cast Member recalls will likely continue when California allows for increased capacity at theme parks.

Walt Disney World President Jeff Vahle said that Cast Members would be “at the heart” of the upcoming 50th anniversary of the resort. That statement was released shortly after another round of layoffs and came under critique on Twitter. The return of many Cast Members may help back up that promise.

Walt Disney World to Host Vaccination Event for Friends and Family of Cast Members

Walt Disney World will be hosting a vaccination event for friends and family of Cast Members on May 22 and May 23.

Cast Members have been able to get their COVID-19 vaccine shots at the Walt Disney World Health Services facility for over a month now. On May 22 and 23, Cast Members may bring up to 5 family and friends to receive their vaccination. Both the Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be available, and Pfizer will be available for those aged 12 and up. Walk-ups are welcome. Each adult getting their vaccine will need to bring an ID, and the Cast Member will need to bring their company ID.

Walt Disney World Health Services is located on Backstage Lane on resort property.

Earlier this week, Mayor Jerry Demings announced that nearly 50% of Orange County residents age 16 and older have been vaccinated. At the 50% threshold, the county’s mask mandate will be lifted for outdoors. When 70% of the eligible population have been vaccinated and/or Orange County’s 14-day rolling positivity rate is 5% or lower, the mask mandate will be lifted entirely. That being said, Walt Disney World may continue to impose its own mask guidelines.
