1900 Park Fare Foodie Guide, Reservations Now Open

The wait is over – well almost! Starting April 10, the beloved 1900 Park Fare will be opening its doors once again at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Hungry guests will be delighted to try plenty of new bites as well as returning favorites coming back to this all-you-care-to-enjoy restaurant for breakfast and dinner. But guests shouldn’t worry, the Grand Floridian Strawberry Soup is back and ready to please them and their taste buds with strawberry goodness.

As part of the ongoing transformation of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, upon reopening, 1900 Park Fare will be donning a newly reimagined look but still having that grand charm. Now, guests will be able to meet some new friends, too! As guests dine, they’ll see none other than Princess Tiana in her new look for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Aladdin with a royal touch in his Prince Aladdin ensemble, Mirabel and Cinderella.

And guests should be sure to make reservations for this fan-favorite starting today, March 5. They’ll definitely want to come in to indulge in this tasty experience, whether it’s their first time or they are a repeat visitor!

1900 Park Fare Reopens April 10 at Disney’s Grand Floridian

1900 Park Fare is re-opening at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa on April 10. This iconic restaurant will feature returning guest favorites along with a newly refurbished dining room and other special touches. 

Here are five things guests can look forward to when they visit:

  1. Wish Upon a Star with Favorite Disney Characters

Because meals are best enjoyed alongside friends, a few familiar faces will stop by throughout breakfast and dinner –some for the first time at this location! In this refreshed character dining experience, guests will be joined by Aladdin in his Prince Ali look, Cinderella, Mirabel and Tiana in her new look for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure as they celebrate the power of a wish.

  1. Enjoy a Feast Fit for Royalty

An enchanting buffet will be served for breakfast and dinner, featuring some guest favorites — yes, that includes the strawberry soup! — along with new menu offerings dreamed up by our talented chefs to pay tribute to some of the characters and stories guests will encounter throughout the restaurant. 

  1. Look for Nods to the Restaurant’s Heritage

Fans of 1900 Park Fare will remember Big Bertha, an antique organ that has called the resort home since 1988. Guests can look for her in the Main Dining Room, where she’s on display as its grand centerpiece!

Just like before, carousel theming is woven throughout the restaurant — starting with the impressive new mural shown above, which will serve as the focal point of the restaurant’s entrance. In one of the adjoining dining rooms, guests will find drawings of carousel animals inspired by classic Disney films like “Alice in Wonderland” and “The Little Mermaid.”

  1. Delight in Exclusive New Artwork

The artistic touches continue throughout the Main Dining Room, where guests will find twelve new portraits created exclusively for the restaurant by Disney artists. Each one, inspired by the impressionist art style of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, features a different Disney character as they hope, dream and wish upon a star (or even a magic lamp or a wishing well).

  1. Celebrate Traditions and Create New Ones

Over the years, 1900 Park Fare has been the backdrop of so many of our guests’ favorite vacation memories. At the heart of this unique restaurant is the magic and whimsy of turn-of-the-century gardens and fairgrounds, where people of all ages came together to enjoy each other’s company. The spirit of those carefree days spent outdoors is brought to life with each detail big and small, making it the perfect place for guests to create new memories with loved ones.

While guests are there, they can explore other ways the resort has been receiving some grand touches that build upon its Victorian elegance with additional storybook charm. Beloved Disney World Restaurant Reopening After 4 Year Closure!

In March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic was sweeping across the world, and millions of people were forced to stay in their homes. Businesses were forced to shut their doors, including Disney theme parks. Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida was only closed for about four months. Disneyland Resort, in Anaheim, California, on the other hand, was closed for more than a year.

When the theme parks finally reopened, things were very different. The parks had strict capacity limits, masks were required at all times, and there were no buffet-style restaurants or character dining. There were also no character meet and greets. It was a vastly different Disney experience than the one guests had been used to.

It’s been just about four years since the world, as we knew it, changed drastically. However, things at Disney have largely returned to the way they were before the pandemic. The parks seem to be more crowded than ever, character meet and greets are drawing large crowds, and dining is almost completely back to normal.

With one glaring exception.

Disney After Hours Characters

Walt Disney World’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa was known for one really great character dining experience — 1900 Park Fare. 1900 Park Fare was a character dining experience that was open for breakfast and dinner. Guests enjoying breakfast were able to see characters like Mary Poppins, Pooh, Tigger, Alice, and the Mad Hatter.

Dinner was Cinderella-themed, so guests would be able to interact with Cinderella and Prince Charming. The highlight, though, was definitely Lady Tremaine (Cinderella’s wicked stepmother), and Cinderella’s stepsisters, Anastasia and Drizella.

1900 Park Fare has been closed for almost four years, having never reopened after the pandemic. But that will reportedly soon change!

The cast members we spoke to confirmed that 1900 Park Fare will reopen THIS YEAR! The cast members also confirmed that, when the restaurant finally does reopen, it will have the character dining that guests have grown to love.

At this time, we do not have an official opening date. Construction can still be heard happening behind closed doors, but it is exciting to know that the delicious dining spot will be back soon and better than ever!

Top 5 Character Dining Experiences

Food and Characters – whats better?

Since going to Disney with our daughter who was 2 at the time, we have always enjoyed going to Character Dining experiences. There is nothing I maybe have enjoyed more than watching my kids get their autograph books out and wait for the next character to come by.

Most of these dining experiences are buffets, so it is important to understand what foods you and your family will enjoy better when making a decision on what experiences to reserve and what meal to attend.

Because of this, most of character experiences that we do attend are breakfast meals. I am not sure I have ever had a bad breakfast at WDW.

When deciding that you are going to reserve a spot at some of these places, having a Disney dining plan is beneficial as some of these meals are a little pricey due to most of them being buffets and the extra benefit of seeing the characters.

There are 15 total character dining destinations that you can chose from. We have experienced 8 of the 15.

For all of these dining experiences, one thing is clear…Bring Your Autograph Books!

Here are our Top Five, in no particular order;

Crystal Palace

Located at the Magic Kingdom just off of Main Street USA, The Crystal Palace resembles England’s Crystal Palace, which was erected in Hyde Park. The restaurant’s white steel supports, arched ceilings, and glass roof (especially the atrium) are tributes to its namesake, built to house London’s 1851 Great Exhibition—the first world’s fair—and among the first structures to use plate glass in large quantities.

Crystal Palace

Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Crystal Palace offers some of the best buffet food on property. It’s a great place to start your day in the Magic Kingdom or close out a wonderful day of rides and fun. While we normally eat here for Breakfast, the dinner here is also really good.

The food is consistently good, but eating seems secondary to the desire to get lots of photos with Pooh and his pals. If you time dinner right and can snag a table away from like-minded diners, there is a great view of Main Street parades in the conservatory.

Breakfast prices are average for WDW standards, breakfast is cheaper to visit if you do not have a Disney Dining Plan (DDP).

Tusker House

Tusker House is located in Animal Kingdom inside the Harambe Village square— is plainer than Disney’s promotional photos would indicate, especially after dark. The food is surprisingly good, with spices and taste combinations you won’t find at other spots.

This buffet style meal is inspired by African and Indian dishes with the classic American dishes as well.

One of the highlights of the meal is the Jungle Juice that is served. It is a mixture of orange juice, guava juice, and passionfruit juice. It is one of those things that you either love it of hate it, I think it’s really good.

The food is priced very reasonable for the quality

Chef Mickey’s

Chef Mickey’s is located at the Contemporary Resort in an open air restaurant. The food take a back seat to the atmosphere that is created by the characters and the resort. Before you are even seated, a picture with the Chef Mickey statue is a must.

In all of our experiences at Chef Mickey’s, the place has been a zoo, but that’s absolutely to be expected of a restaurant like this. Kids get excited, parents let them run around…it happens. Don’t eat here if you’re not keen on the idea of someone else’s rugrat jumping around your table.

The food is pricier than most on this list but the experience is well worth it.

The food is all American comfort food. While this is not the most exciting, the food tastes really good too. Anyone can find something to eat on this buffet.

The layout of the restaurant and the whole resort level creates a loud, busy experience. The monorail can be heard whirring into the resort overhead.

This is a must visit for every WDW trip.

1900 Park Fare

This restaurant, located at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa that has 2 separate character meals. The Supercalifragilistic Breakfast and the Cinderella’s Happily Ever After Dinner gives you a chance to meet some characters that it is tough to find elsewhere.

This is another one of those dining experiences where the atmosphere overshadows the food and decor. The characters play their part fantastically from the Mad Hatter to Cinderella’s Stepsisters. The interaction that you can have with the characters is much more personal due to them actually being allowed to talk to you.

The food is much better at breakfast than dinner but still a solid buffet. It is also reasonably priced for being in an extravagant hotel like the Grand Floridian.

Cinderella’s Royal Table

The only character dining experience on this list that is not a buffet, this is located in Cinderella’s Castle at Magic Kingdom.

Cinderella’s Castle

Although the food is decent, this experience is all about the nostalgia.

The atmosphere is all castle and royalty. When you are allowed in, the initial picture with Cinderella feels like you are in a real life castle. Once the photo session is complete, you are called upstairs to your table.

If you don’t take the elevator, the winding staircase up to the dining hall just adds to the castle like feel.

Once at your table, all “princes” are given swords and all “princesses” are given fairy wands

Music introduces each Princess and they begin to make their rounds to each table. One of my favorite Disney memories was when our daughter was 2 and we experienced this for the first time on Christmas morning. All of the Disney Princesses took time with our daughter and you could tell she loved the experience.

This meal is probably pricey but it is so worth it if you have little kids or simply love nostalgia.
