Guests Line Up For Refunds as Disney Genie+ Service Experiences Outages Across Walt Disney World Resort

Guests lined up at Guest Experience Team kiosks across Walt Disney World Resort on Sunday morning as the Disney Genie and Genie+ services experienced a resort-wide outage. Refunds were offered to guests who had purchased the Genie+ service for the day.

Disney Genie+ Service Experiences Outages

The Genie+ service is a paid extension of Disney Genie through which guests can book Lightning Lane passes, which provide guests a time at which they can go to a selected attraction and use the shortened Lightning Lane queue.

Prices for the Disney Genie+ service change daily. They hit a recent high on the morning of October 8, with Walt Disney World Resort charging $29 for a multi-park pass. When available on Sunday morning, the Disney Genie+ service cost $29 at Magic Kingdom, $22 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, $18 at EPCOT, and $16 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

For much of Sunday morning, however, the Disney Genie and Genie+ services experienced outages. Guests were greeted with a tab notifying them of the outage upon opening the My Disney Experience mobile application.

The tab notified guests that new selections, purchases, or modifications to Disney Genie+ features were “temporarily unavailable.” When attempting to utilize the Disney Genie service (i.e. check attraction wait times/restaurant availability on the Disney Genie tab), guests were met with an eternally spinning wheel and reaffirming sentiments such as “tapping into phenomenal cosmic power” or “adding a few magical touches.”

The constant loading happened when users selected both the “Tip Board” and “My Day” tabs.

Refunds were offered to guests who were impacted by the Disney Genie+ outage. Lines formed at Guest Experience Team tents around Walt Disney World Resort; we noticed several lengthy lines while at Magic Kingdom.

The line at the Guest Experience Team tent in Frontierland wrapped around a portion of the area; a wandering Big Al kept them company for a short time.

A slightly shorter line had formed at the Adventureland Guest Experience Team tent. Perhaps the largest line had gathered at the Guest Relations Lobby in City Hall near the Magic Kingdom entrance; there, the line stretched out of the building.

As of 10:30 A.M. on October 8, the service is slowly coming back online across the resort. Guests are able to view attraction wait times and restaurant availability at all four Walt Disney World Resort parks, though they’re occasionally still prompted with the “Pardon our Inconvenience” pop-up notification. Guests again have the ability to purchase the Disney Genie+ service.

Disneyland Paris Adding ‘Frozen’ and ‘Winnie the Pooh’ to Storybook Land Canal Boats

Disneyland Paris will be adding “Frozen” and “Winnie the Pooh” scenes to Le Pays des Contes de Fées, their version of the Storybook Land Canal Boats, in 2024.

Le Pays des Contes de Fées opened at Disneyland Paris in 1994. In honor of its 30th anniversary, “Frozen” and “Winnie the Pooh” scenes will be added and the ride will be completely refurbished over the course of the next year.

Frozen

Before inviting guests to Arendelle over at Walt Disney Studios Park, “Frozen” will come to life in miniature form as one of the familiar fairy tale locales in Fantasyland. Imagineers are closely working with Disneyland Paris Central Shops to create a detailed model of the majestic North Mountain covered in a thick white blanket of snow and Elsa’s iconic Ice Palace at its peak. Guests will even be able to spot Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven on their way to Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post (and Sauna)!

Winnie the Pooh

As your boat takes you through these enchanted realms, another timeless place will take root along the way, one full of charm, wisdom and … honey. Think, think, think … it’s the Hundred Acre Woods, of course! Storybook Land will soon offer a new home to Winnie the Pooh and friends, located not far from the cozy cottage of the Seven Dwarfs.

“There’s something magical about taking something full scale and displaying it in miniature, it’s something Walt himself was obsessed with,” shares Keith Rector, Art Director at Walt Disney Imagineering Paris. “I grew up near Disneyland in California and Storybook Land has always been my favorite attraction. When I joined the team in Paris, we started a conversation about how we can bring new stories to Le Pays des Contes de Fées. I wanted to introduce new characters to this realm of storybook classics.”

Disney Reveals New Live Halloween Entertainment at Disney Springs

The season of happy haunts and thrills is here and Freeform, Hulu, and Disney+ are joining in on the fun at Disney Springs. Check out themed family-friendly entertainment each weekend this month throughout Disney Springs as you shop, dine, and play!

Experience a jack-o-lantern like you’ve never seen it before as it moves through Disney Springs with a DJ playing tunes that will keep you moving. Follow the jack-o-lantern all through the Marketplace where you can take photos in front of a “Goosebumps” backdrop!

“Goosebumps,” the thrilling new series premiering Friday, Oct. 13 on Disney+ and Hulu, plunges viewers into a world of mystery and suspense. Inspired by the best-selling books by R.L. Stine, the series follows a group of five high schoolers as they embark on a shadowy and twisted journey to investigate the tragic passing three decades earlier of a teen named Harold Biddle – while also unearthing dark secrets from their parents’ past. The star-studded cast includes Justin Long, Rachael Harris, Zack Morris, Isa Briones, Miles McKenna, Ana Yi Puig, and Will Price.

Don’t be surprised if you see a few zombies roaming around … it’s no trick it’s the Zombeats Drummers! These jamming zombies will be marching throughout Town Center every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday beginning at 6 p.m. during the Halloween season.

Also in Town Center, catch the Skeleton Stilt Walkers and Roller-Skating Witches roaming around in full Halloween spirit.

You can continue the thrills by catching classic Halloween movies, including the spellbinding favorites “Hocus Pocus,” “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Addams Family Values,” and “Monsters, Inc.,” during Freeform’s 31 Nights of Halloween all October.

The fun continues on the AdventHealth Waterside Stage where you can catch the Squad Ghouls cooking up grooves and melodies! Catch the haunting harmonies of this a capella group every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday starting at 7 p.m. as they are not to miss.
