Hundreds of Guests Paid for Disney Trips That Were Never Booked

Police were forced to investigate and take action after would-be Disney Guests discovered that parks trips they paid for were never booked.

There’s no such thing as the wrong time to visit a Disney Park. In the summer months, Central Florida humidity can be brutal at the Walt Disney World Resort, and in the winter months, some parks, like Tokyo Disney Resort, experience weather that drapes the parks in a snowy blanket. But even with the weather factored in, there’s simply not a bad time to visit a Disney Park. But for Guests looking to have a different kind of Disney Parks experience, one of the best times to visit is during the holidays.

Hundreds of would-be Guests apparently had the same thought and set out to make plans to take their families to Disney’s Parisian park and surprise them with the trips as Christmas gifts. But what started out as exciting holiday surprises turned into empty promises and the stuff of nightmares.

More than 400 families had planned to surprise their children with an exciting experience at Disneyland Paris after purchasing trips from a travel company known as Go West with Mickey, which was based in South London. But after purchasing their trips, families found out the hard way that their trips were never actually booked, so there were no trips to be taken. Shortly after families began to realize they had no trips to the Disney Parks near Paris, they discovered that the company had closed, and its Facebook page and website had both been deleted. Additionally, messages from the defrauded would-be Disney Guests were no longer answered.

“I contacted Disney,” said Ali McEvoy, who purchased a trip for her children Owen and Cariad, ages 10 and 7, respectively. “They said nothing was booked.”

The mom of two purchased a holiday package with Go West With Mickey–a four-night Disney trip that included a resort hotel room for the family plus park tickets. She presented the gift to her children for Christmas, and she recorded the experience during which they unwrapped a calendar with the dates of their planned trip in December circled. It was only after this that McElvoy began to read online that the company was allegedly involved in fraudulent practices. That’s when she called Disney and got the worst holiday news she could imagine.

In all, Go West With Mickey had allegedly defrauded paying customers out of £370,000, or roughly $480,000. Police reportedly investigated 419 separate allegations. The owner of Go West With Mickey reportedly cooperated with a voluntary interview related to the allegations but was released without an arrest. He remained under investigation at the time.

Months before the holiday, the firm issued a statement online saying the company was “dead” and that its assets had been frozen. “There have been mistakes, yes, it was a company of five staff who also made mistakes,” read a message on the company’s website, which has now been taken down. “We have always highly compensated for these mistakes.”

The Association of British Travel Agents weighed in on the situation, stating that Go West With Mickey was not a member of the ABTA.

“Operators selling packaged holidays are legally required to provide financial protection for customers,” the organization said in a statement.

The company has virtually disappeared–even online. The only remnants of the organization that referred to itself as an “independent travel advisor” are in the forms of scathing online reviews in which good neighbors have attempted to keep others from falling prey to what some called a “Ponzi scheme.”

One review on TripAdvisor tells Disney trip planners to “Avoid [Go West With Mickey] at all costs,” saying that “most of the reviews on [TripAdvisor] have been done by the scam artist owners of this company using fake profiles.” The review goes on, saying, “They have run off with over £300,000 of customers’ money.”

There’s also talk of the company having changed its name to “ThemeParks4U,” and reviews online warn vacationers to “avoid this one at all costs too.”

When planning a trip to any Disney Parks Resort, it’s important to book only with an authorized Disney vacation travel planner. This is the only sure way to know that you’re getting the trip you’re expecting–and so that you don’t get any “surprises” when you arrive at the parks for your Disney Parks experience.

Dick Van Dyke Stuns Audience on “The Masked Singer”

Season 9 of The Masked Singer kicked off with the type of surprise usually reserved for a season (or series) finale, as the singing Gnome’s identity was revealed.

On Wednesday evening, the Season 9 premiere of FOX’s The Masked Singer left the audience stunned with excitement and at least one judge in tears once his identity was revealed during the show.

The masked singer–in full gnome garb–was eliminated on Wednesday night, and as the audience cheered, “Take it off! Take it off,” no one could have guessed that underneath the giant elfish-looking mask, a legend’s legend was lurking. Slowly and methodically, the mask was removed to reveal none other than the famed Dick Van Dyke.

The legendary 97-year-old Mary Poppins cast alum, fully disguised as a garden gnome, performed “When You’re Smiling” by the late Frank Sinatra before revealing his true identity. Dyke thrilled audience members, but no one was more excited to see Disney’s famous chimney sweep than panelist Nicole Scherzinger, who was reduced to tears following the removal of his giant mask.

The Masked Singer show host, Nick Cannon, also found himself starstruck, saying, “This is the most seasoned and most decorated we’ve had on our show, ladies and gentlemen.”

The almost-centenarian Dick Van Dyke has long been beloved by his fans. As a comedian and actor, he’s known for his humor and charm, for his “comedic timing,” and for his physical comedy as well. The played the role of Bert the Chimney Sweep alongside Julie Andrews in Disney’s Mary Poppins (1964) and is also known for his work in Bye Bye BirdieThe Dick Van Dyke Show, and Van Dyke and Company.

Disney Releases NEW ‘The Little Mermaid’ Teaser

Calling all The Little Mermaid fans! Walt Disney Studios has released a new teaser trailer for their live-action version of The Little Mermaid, which will release on May 26, 2023. The film, which stars Halle Bailey, is one of the most talked about movies of the year. Fans are thrilled to see more footage from ‘under-the-sea,’ and we are even treated to a first look at Melissa McCarthy’s Ursula!

New Teaser Shows Us Life under the Sea

This new teaser from Walt Disney Studios shows us the playful and colorful world we will get to see in theatres this May. In addition to hearing some beautiful Alan Menken music, the teaser trailer shows us some significant new bits from the film. We see some playful moments between Princess Ariel and some sea animals. Ariel plays with a pufferfish, some jellyfish, and her pal flounder. The world of this live-action movie looks stunning.

One of the most fun moments from the teaser was seeing a glimpse of some other mermaids. These mermaids could very likely be Ariel’s other sisters. In The Little Mermaid, Princess Ariel has six older sisters. They names are Attina, Alana, Adella, Aquata, Arista, and Andrina. The mermaids in the trailer look gorgeous; the artistry that is seen in this film so far looks unbelievable.

The big reveal of the teaser was getting a sneak-peak of Ursula. Actress and comedienne Melissa McCarthy will play Ursula in the upcoming film. Ursula is one of the most iconic and beloved villains in all Disney movies, so McCarthy will have big shoes (or scales) to fill. From the brief snippet we see of her, McCarthy’s Ursula will look very similar to the Ursula we know from the original movie. Her bleach-blonde hair, pointed eyebrows, and heavy eyeshadow seems to be making a reappearance in the upcoming movie.

We also get a glipse of Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric in what looks to be the “Kiss the Girl” scene from the movie.

Disney’s Super Bowl Commercial Achieves Massive Accomplishment

Via DisDining.com

Sunday night, the entire country tuned in to watch the biggest football game of the year. Super Bowl Sunday means excellent football, a fantastic halftime show, and incredible new commercials. While the Kansas City Chiefs overtook the Philadelphia Eagles on the field, Disney was the bigger winner in another category.

New Disney100 Comercial Wows Fans

Last night during Super Bowl LVII, Disney unveiled a new commercial in honor of the 100th anniversary celebration of Walt Disney Animation Studios. The commercial is an incredible tribute to all of the unrivaled storytelling Disney has done for the past 100 years. The Disney Super Bowl ad features stunning music, a diverse selection of movie moments, and videos of Disney fans. It honors all eras of the Walt Disney Company, and it gives a special thank you to the fans who have helped Disney succeed for so many years. Disney shared some inspiring words about the video, saying the commercial is for, “the fans and storytellers who have sparked the joy and magic that is Disney over the last 100 years.”

The Disney100 commercial was absolutely a stand-out of the night. The stakes could not have been higher, as Super Bowl commercials are incredibly important for brands. Last night’s game expected a record-setting 115 million viewers. This was due to the incredible fanbase of both teams, as well as the highly anticipated halftime performance by singer Rihanna. The mind-blowing amount of viewers makes a Super Bowl advertisment an essential time for brands to meet a massive audience. A 30-second advertisement at the Super Bowl costs a company between $6 and $7 million dollars, so the stakes are high.

Luckily for Disney, their commercial was a hit. According to System1, a program that determines how effective an advertisement is based on emotional responses, the Disney100 Super Bowl ad was the best. System1 uses a scale of 1.0-5.9, and Disney earned a 5.3. This score puts them in the top 1% of ads scored by System1. This commercial was a massive promotion for the Disney theme parks and Walt Disney Animation Studios, so this accomplishment is enormous.

The commercial’s success is much-needed after a week where Disney has been getting some negative attention in the press. Between the mess happening with the Reedy Creek Bill and the news that Disney would be laying off 7,000 employees, Disney CEO Bob Iger needed a commercial that would help refocus Disney’s brand image in a more positive light. Luckily, this commercial did just that. Celebrations will continue for Disney as they welcome Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs to Disneyland Park for their Super Bowl Parade.
