First Look at Massive Addition Coming to EPCOT With ‘Moana’-Themed Attraction

Disney just revealed the first look at a stunning addition coming to EPCOT along with the new ‘Moana’-inspired attraction.

Fans eagerly await to enjoy all the improvements and new experiences coming to Disney Parks worldwide. One of the most anticipated attractions is The Journey of Water, an immersive attraction inspired by Moana (2016) that will let Guests interact with magical, living water in a beautiful and inspiring setting.

This all-new attraction was announced in 2019 and would be the first attraction themed after Disney’s film Moana. The attraction is currently developing at EPCOT and is already showing significant progress. However, a breathtaking detail was just revealed as part of the coming D23 Expo announcements.

During a special media preview of the upcoming D23 Expo, Ashley Carter (@AshleyLCarter1) shared a few images of a breathtaking detail that will accompany this new attraction, a massive, 16-feet-tall Te Fiti model.

The scale model shows the incredible attention to detail that will go into realizing this attraction and talks about the different teams involved in creating this fantastic new addition, including Disney Imagineering and Walt Disney Animation Studios teams. The process of bringing this massive Te Fiti to life involved the exploration of the character’s pose, the color design of her figure, clay model conceptualization, sketching, and photo reference to study ways to represent Te Fiti protecting the water during its journey.

Per Disney’s information on this scale model:

Te Fiti represent life and the balance of nature. She will be seen protecting water as it voyages around the water cycle.

During this D23 Expo, Disney describes the Moana-inspired attraction as follows:

EPCOT-Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana

Journey of Water will immerse guests in a lush environment where the story of our global cycle of water is brought to life. As gusts explore the outdoor trail, they will be invited to play and interact with water as it travels from our skies, to our oceans and back again.

FIRE in EPCOT’s World Showcase

Last night, the World Showcase was set ablaze in an accident just after Harmonious, EPCOT’s nighttime fireworks show. Little is known at the moment about the cause of the fire, but it seems likely that a stray ember from the fireworks is responsible. There were also reports of lightning in the area tonight.

In a video posted on Twitter, the back of the American Gardens theater can be seen with decently large flames coming from the back of the theater. Earlier reports showed smoke in the area so heavy it was hard to make out exactly which building was ablaze.

The video also shows a speed boat racing toward the fire. While this is a very scary incident, especially for those present at the Park tonight, we are grateful for fast-acting Cast Members who can be seen springing into action to ensure guest safety and to put the fire out.

Comments on Twitter and Facebook from bystanders present report that the flames were quickly extinguished though it is not certain at this time if there was any lasting damage done to the theater. The fire did not spread to any other locations in the World Showcase.

There have been no reports of injury. At that time in the evening, it’s unlikely that guests would have been present, but it’s unclear if any cast were present in the area. Frequently technical crew will be in the theater late into the evening working on future productions. We sincerely hope no one was there tonight. This is a very early report. We will update you as more details become available.

According to Twitter user @SoFLalTaLGaL, this exact location was set on fire earlier this year.

Guest Blocks Ride Exit, Screams in Cast Member’s Face

Via InsideTheMagic.net

Formerly The Living Sea, The Seas with Nemo & Friends is the star attraction of SeaBase, EPCOT’s impressive aquarium. After meeting a sea turtle at Turtle Talk With Crush, go on a serene adventure with Dory, Nemo, Squirt, Marlin, and friends.

For a few Disney Park Guests this week, their journey under the sea was less than magical. Katie (@katie.rom) was at EPCOT with her son when she witnessed an altercation between other Guests and a Cast Member:

Cast members don’t deserve to get yelled at.. #disneyworld #disney #dobetter #epcot

As Katie and her son exited The Seas with Nemo & Friends, riding a conveyor belt out into the SeaBase aquarium, they were suddenly blocked by a family in front of them. She called it a “dead stop.”

nemo and marlin in finding nemo

Katie waited patiently because she wasn’t sure what was happening in front of her. Eventually, a Cast Member nicely asked the family to step to the side so Katie, her son, and other Guests could pass by.

As Katie and her son looked at the fish, she overheard the Guest yelling, “I’ve been on Nemo a million times!” at the Cast Member. She was confused because the Guests were in the clamshell next to theirs and didn’t mention any problems during the ride.

“One, I didn’t hear you say a word the whole time except have your phone out, by the way, which, in a dark ride, I can see your bright screen, and it’s kind of annoying,” Katie said. “Two, what gives you the right to yell at a Cast Member?”

Katie explained that the Guests were screaming in the Cast Member’s face, and it upset her:

“They deal with a million people like you every single day. They don’t deserve to be yelled at. They don’t deserve to be screamed at. They don’t purposefully go out of their way to ‘ruin’ your Disney vacation. You don’t like something? It’s not their fault. Sometimes things happen. Maybe you had just a negative day, and you were taking it out on somebody else. One thing I’ve also learned is if you are negative, you are going to be purposefully looking for the negative. We need to switch up our attitudes; remember that Cast Members are still people. They deserve our respect.”

“Please do better,” Katie begged at the end of her video. “Cast Members don’t deserve that at all.”

“Appreciate this so much! Cast member here,” @clfite96 commented. “We love and support all cast members here! You help to make Disney magical and wonderful 🥰,” Katie replied.

Disney Guests Surprised By Low Wait Times

Disney World crowds are surprisingly low.

When you visit Walt Disney World Resort, you expect to have a magical time while visiting Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. However, you also expect to wait quite a bit.

Part of the fun a family can have is finding ways to entertain themselves while waiting in line for a Disney attraction. As a matter of fact, many memories are made while waiting in line.

However, It has been reported that Magic Kingdom was seemingly a “ghost town” compared to its normal crowds and this proved to be true even at the end of the Park’s close. Wait times have been down quite a bit according to analytics and this has apparently been surprising to many Disney Guests.

Low crowds at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

One Reddit user posted a picture in EPCOT from this week where you can see very few people. The Guest also shared that they had gone during the beginning of COVID and this “absolutely beats that.”

“Just got done with EPCOT. Not sure what’s going on, maybe I missed something but the amount of people at the park today was impressively low. We have been during the COVID 25% rule, and this absolutely beat that. Most rides were 5-30min wait times.”

Most rides, according to the Disney Park Guest, were between 5 and 30-minute waits.

Looking at the My Disney Experience app, you can see that many rides this week have had shockingly low wait times. It’s surprising because even though the kids have gone back to school, there have been relatively few “lulls” when it comes to Disney World crowds in the past couple of years, even once school was back in session.

Don’t expect crowds to remain low, however. As the holidays ramp up with Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party taking place on select nights through October and then the march towards Christmas, we can expect that there will be plenty of crowded days to come at the Disney Parks.
