Disney’s Frozen is arguably the most popular and most successful animated film of the 21st century, and we think we know why.
If you compare Frozen to its other Disney animated film counterparts, there’s not a massive difference. In fact, the similarities are quite obvious. Each one, for the most part, is one part fairy tale, one part Disney-esque retelling, and one part life lesson. The story of Princess Anna and Queen Elsa doesn’t stray too far from the original recipe.
It does, however, add in a special ingredient that makes the film even more irresistible–and his name is Olaf. Has there ever been a more loving and lovable character? We think not, and apparently, Disney has quite the affinity for the lovable snowman as well because he’s landed his very own Disney+ series, called Olaf Presents.
The series was talked about when Bob Chapek declared November 12 “Disney+ Day” last month. (It is, after all, the anniversary of the platform going live in 2019.)
The new series promises to give us more of the adorable snowman we love as he retells some of Disney’s most beloved stories–and with a flair all his own! Take a look.
We think we like Olaf’s impersonation of Ariel from Disney’s The Little Mermaid the best, so far.
This won’t be Olaf’s first time to retell the story from a Disney feature film. After all, he did a pretty good job of retelling the story of Frozen in Frozen 2.
From the clips in the first trailer for Olaf Presents, we can see that he’s been practicing his take on Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King and Moana, and we can’t wait to see which other Disney tales get an Olaf makeover!
You can stream Olaf Presents beginning Friday, November 12 on Disney+.
Disney Plus has just released a special collection focusing specifically on the Disney Parks and how the Walt Disney Company was developed, and now the special features continue with an upcoming movie about “about Walt Disney’s journey to building Disneyland, the “Happiest Place on Earth”! Deadline has revealed that David Gordon Green is “set to direct a movie at Disney Studios for Disney+”. The writing for this movie will be helmed by Evan Spiliotopoulos, who wrote for “The Jungle Book 2, Pooh’s Heffalump Movie, Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure and the $1.26 billion-grossing live-action reboot of Beauty and the Beast”. Apparently it took a year for Cavalry Media to fine-tune their pitch for Disney, and as we can see by this news, that effort must have paid off!
Director David Gordon Green has seen success previously with “Halloween Kills”, which is “the sequel to the highest-grossing Halloween movie of all time”. In addition to the Disney movies mentioned above, writer Evan Spiliotopoulos also worked on “Snow White and the Huntsmen, which grossed nearly $400M worldwide” as well as “the $245M WW-grossing Hercules”. Since he clearly has experience with Disney movies, and David Gordon Green has experience with making successful films, we expect that this original film will be promising!
According to Deadline.com, “Dana Brunetti and Matt DelPiano at Cavalry Media will produce with Jason Reed”. Reed was a producer for the live-action Mulan in 2020. While films in the new Disney+ collection and the movie “Saving Mr. Banks” have already provided some insight into the Disney Parks’ background, and Walt Disney World’s 50th-anniversary celebration provided many more fun facts, we’ll be interested to see what else can be learned from this new movie too! Have you seen any other movies about the development of Disneyland, the development of Walt Disney World, or Walt Disney himself?
A student at Centennial High School in Roswell, Georgia, had a lot of explaining to do.
The young man, Luke Stevens, told his United States History teacher that he wouldn’t be in class the next session because he was going to be hanging out and having lunch with the “creator of Hamilton.”
Teachers have heard all the excuses, and the one seemed as implausible and impossible as any Luke’s teacher had heard to that point.
But Luke had all the proof he needed. In fact, he didn’t have to say a word because Lin Manuel Miranda, who was in the Atlanta, Georgia, area for a fundraiser Luke’s mother was heading up on her birthday, was only too happy to record a video of himself speaking directly to Luke’s teacher and corroborating his story.
In the video that Luke ultimately took to his teacher, Miranda introduced himself and tried to put Luke’s teacher’s mind at ease by telling her that he’d be handling U.S. History studies with Luke that day:
“This is Lin Manuel Miranda. I’m sorry he can’t be in U.S. History class right now, but he’s with me. We’re gonna go over the Bill of Rights, and anything you may be covering right now. We cover a lot in about two-and-a-half hours of ‘Hamilton,’ but we’re gonna go over it in specifics now. So this is not lost time.”
Miranda followed that by expressing gratitude to Luke’s teacher for excusing him from class that day.
When Luke sent the video message to his teacher, who’s a big fan of Lin Manuel Miranda, she was overwhelmed and told Luke she was “freaking out.”
“OMG!!!!,” she said in a message to the student. “Tell [Miranda] I just saw [Hamilton] for the first time and I love it! We will be using his songs tomorrow to teach about Washington’s precedents and the cabinet battles!!”
Not only did Miranda give Luke the proof he needed to prove his reason for absence was not a lie, but he also sat down and played the “Happy Birthday” song on the piano for Luke’s mom, Tamara Stevens.
