It’s FINALLY happening! Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside has officially reopened as of October 14th and Guests are flooding back to the beloved, New Orleans-themed Resort. While we’ll have to wait until October 28th for Disney’s Port Orleans – French Quarter to open, Riverside is dishing out all sorts of excitement. One of the most iconic forms of entertainment offered at Walt Disney World is the popular Yeeha Bob Jackson that performs at River Roost Lounge in Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside. While we’re thrilled to see entertainment like Casey’s Corner Pianist, Jellyrolls, and stage shows return, we’ve been especially excited to get back to one of Bob’s performances as we sip a beverage or two to close out a perfect Disney day. While Bob is excited to return, he has warned Guests that Disney doesn’t want them to sing along.
Bob Jackson took to his Facebook page on October 14 to share, “I am very grateful to be returning to the stage at Disney tonight but there are some big restrictions on what I can perform. I’ve been instructed not to perform any sing-along music, and not to encourage anyone to sing along. I’m not to get anyone up and moving around the room. These are restrictions due to Covid and masks. Hopefully, these restrictions are only temporary and will be lifted in the near future as we get through the pandemic. Those of you at home can sing along, but those in the audience at the Port might be disappointed not to hear their old favorites from the show. As you can imagine, I’ve been scrambling the last day and a half to write another show! Thanks to you and your many requests over the last 17 months, I have plenty of new material to pick from. You’ll still be able to hear your favorites every Sunday night at our weekly sing-along show. Wish me luck tonight, I’m going to need it! We ain’t scared!!!”
Bob Jackson’s songs are typically perfect for singing along and his interaction with Guests makes the show all the better. But, you know what… we’ll take what we can get! Even if we can’t sing along, we’re thrilled to have a chance to see Bob work his making on the keys once again. Hopefully, as Bob said, these restrictions will be lifted soon enough. Best of luck, Bob!
f you’re looking for a fantastic breakfast option, look no further than the beloved Tonga Toast, served at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort!
From a Disney Cast Member;
When you read “banana-stuffed sourdough bread, battered, deep-fried, and dusted with cinnamon-sugar” you know what’s coming – Tonga Toast! Currently served at Kona Cafe and Capt. Cook’s, this decadent breakfast classic has been on the menu at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort since 1971.
This blissfully rich breakfast recipe is the perfect treat and a great way for the family to enjoy a taste of Disney magic.
Tonga Toast from Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Serves 4
Ingredients:
Sugar-Cinnamon
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
Batter
4 large eggs
1 1/3 cup whole milk
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
Tonga Toast
1 quart canola oil, for frying
1 loaf sourdough bread (uncut, 12 inches long)
2 large bananas, peeled
Directions:
For Sugar-Cinnamon:
Mix sugar and cinnamon in medium bowl (large enough to roll toast) with a fork until thoroughly blended. Set aside.
For Batter:
Whip eggs in medium bowl (large enough to dip toast) until well beaten. Add milk, cinnamon, and sugar. Mix well and set aside.
For Tonga Toast:
Using caution, preheat oil to 350°F in a large pot or a deep fryer. (If using a large pot, use a candy thermometer to make certain the oil does not get any hotter or it will burn.)
Slice the bread into four three-inch-thick slices.
Cut each banana in half crosswise, then each piece lengthwise.
Place a bread slice flat on the counter and tear out just enough from the middle (do not tear all the way through) to stuff half a banana into; repeat with each bread slice.
Dip stuffed bread into batter, covering both sides, allowing excess batter to drip off bread and place carefully into hot oil.
Cook 4-5 minutes until golden brown. If needed, turn toast over after 2 minutes and cook for another 2 minutes on other side. Remove and drain excess oil.
Roll toast in cinnamon-sugar. Repeat for each piece of toast.
Note: This recipe has been converted from a larger quantity in the restaurant kitchens. The flavor profile may vary from the restaurant’s version. As a reminder, while preparing this recipe, please supervise children who are helping or nearby.

It’s an exciting time to be at Walt Disney World! Disney has recently kicked off their big 50th Anniversary celebration called “The World’s Most Magical Celebration”, honoring 50 years of magic. As Disney pulls themselves out of the COVID pandemic phased reopenings and invites Guests to join them in the Parks for the 50th experience, the need for more Cast Members is of the utmost importance. Disney Parks Blog recently shared the news that “Walt Disney World Resort is proud to have returned more than 50,000 Cast Members to work. Now, more than 65,000 are working across the Resort, and we are hiring hundreds more each week as we continue to open more resorts and Guest locations.” The massive hiring and re-hiring is the reason Disney Park entertainment is making a comeback with new announcements like the soon-to-be returning Candlelight Processional at EPCOT, Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and even the October 1 return of favorites like “Let the Magic Begin” at Magic Kingdom Park. Now, Disney Cast Members have even more to celebrate, as they receive a minimum wage increase!
As reported by OrlandoSentinel: “Disney and its unions agreed in 2014 to increase the minimum salary from $8.03 to $10 an hour by 2016. In 2017, the Service Trades Council Union — Disney’s largest — engaged in negotiations for another increase, and in September 2018 union workers approved the most recent contract that raised the minimum to $11 that December and outlined the path to $15.” Now, reports show that the Service Trades Council Union, a coalition of local unions representing Disney workers, struck a deal with the company to gradually increase wages to $15 an hour by October 1, 2021.
Currently, both Walt Disney World employees, as well as Universal employees, are now receiving increasing wages of $15 an hour. OrlandoSentinel reports that with this increase “Florida’s minimum wage rising to the same level by 2026 — many workers are experiencing new economic mobility, potentially signaling a positive shift in Central Florida’s low-wage, tourism-dependent economy.”
As crowds continue to return to the Orlando Theme Park, Disney plans to continue to hire Cast Members at this higher wage through the end of the year at a rate of hundreds of new employees weekly.
