When it comes to the extensive list of Disney Resort hotels, Aulani Resort is easily one of the most coveted and luxurious properties owned by the Walt Disney Company.
Aulani is a Disney Resort hotel affiliated with the Disney Vacation Club, and is one of only three ‘stand-alone’ Resort hotels in the world, as in, a Disney Resort hotel without a nearby theme park.
Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, resides on the beautiful and idyllic beaches of Oahu’s Ko Olina Resort in Kapolei, Hawaii. But Hawaii is currently anything but idyllic.
Hurricane Dora, which formed in the Pacific, has caused great winds exacerbating existing wildfires in Lahaina, a census-designated place in Maui.
These wildfires have been all but apocalyptic, destroying everything in their wake. The latest reports say that nearly 40 people have died due to these wildfires. At this time, we don’t know how many are injured.
These blazes were entirely ‘unprecedented,’ and many of the victims who have been injured, killed, or displaced were unprepared for such an event.
Residents of Lahaina have been seen jumping into the area’s waters in an attempt to flee and avoid the flames, and the census-designated area is “all but destroyed,” according to one report.
The fires are ongoing, causing power outages for thousands of Hawaiian residents. Even worse, the wildfires have taken down multiple cell towers, making it impossible for citizens to contact 911, other emergency services, or their loved ones.
While the bulk of the carnage has been reported on Maui, some smaller fires have also been reported in Oahu, the same island housing Disney’s Aulani Resort. Currently, Aulani Resort nor its Guests have remained largely unaffected.
At this time, the latest reports say the Lahaina fires are “80% contained.”
