The Florida Senate has passed a bill that gives them some control over Disney’s monorail system.
This afternoon, May 2, 2023, the Florida State Senate passed SB 1250. While this is a standard transportation bill, it includes an amendment that would allow the Florida Department of Transportation to oversee inspections of Disney World’s monorails. The amendment states that “any governmentally or privately owned fixed-guideway transportation systems operating in this state which are located within an independent special district created by a local act which has boundaries within two contiguous counties.” The bill passed 26-14.
The amendment was originally filed days after a press conference with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in which he discussed the state’s takeover and dissolving of the Reedy Creek Improvement District. Previously, the Governor has threatened to make major adjustments to Walt Disney World’s operations, including the possibility of raising tolls on roads leading to the property or building a prison next to Walt Disney World.
So what does this mean for Walt Disney World? To start off, the bill allows the state government to oversee inspections of Disney World’s monorail system, meaning they could close, modify, or disable it for any reason they see fit. This bill could also go on to apply to Disney’s Skyliner system, boat transportation, or bus operations, which would grant the Florida Senate major control over how Guests get around Walt Disney World.
While the bill may seem innocent enough, Governor DeSantis and the new Central Florida Tourism Oversight District have made it clear that they’re not pleased with Disney’s operations after the company spoke out against the Governor’s Parental Rights in Education Act.
In fact, the Governor has made his intentions of targeting Disney so clear that Disney recently filed a bombshell lawsuit against the Governor and the members of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District for violation of their free speech as a company. Yesterday, the Board voted to file a countersuit against Disney. Public opinion on the case is largely in Disney’s favor, but the Governor has commented that he believes Disney’s lawsuit has no merit.
While something as drastic as a permanent closure of the monorail system or any other transportation system is unlikely, the bill does give the Florida Senate (and in turn, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District) a lot of control. If Disney’s lawsuit is to be believed, that means they could use it to hinder Disney’s operations if they see fit.
A popular Disneyland Resort attraction was shut down after Guests reportedly went missing.
Disneyland Resort is an immersive experience that transports visitors to a world of magic and wonder. Whether you’re a longtime Disney fan or just looking for a fun day out, it’s a must-visit destination that will leave you with memories that last a lifetime. Disneyland is known as “The Happiest Place on Earth.” Being the happiest place, Guests expect no errors, short wait times, and magical moments that will last a lifetime.
Disneyland Resort has two theme parks, Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. Each Disney Park includes something for Guests of all ages and sizes to experience. Disneyland Park is home to iconic attractions such as “it’s a small world,” Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Space Mountain, and many more attractions.
Guests heading to Disneyland from May 1, 2023 until June 4th, 2023, will get to experience Space Mountain turned into Hyperspace Mountain. Guest will hurtle through the hyperspace while dodging furious dogfights during this high-speed Star Wars adventure.
In a social media post, Guests shared that they broke down on the first day of Hyperspace Mountain, but you’d be surprised by what happened next.
While errors and delays are expected occasionally at Disneyland, this attraction was stopped for half an hour, and the lights came on. While Guests were waiting for this attraction to start back up, other Disneyland Guests decided it was their stop and escaped from restraints and walked towards the exit.
“We were going along and came to an abrupt stop most of the way through. All the lights came on and we had to sit for a half hour. Well not all of us. A group of 3 somehow escaped their restraints and just walked out towards the exit. So cast members and security had to clear the ride before letting any of us out since we were missing people.”
When error or delays happen while at a Disney attraction, Guests should remain seated and remain calm. Disney Cast Members will be with them shortly. Never remove yourself from an attraction. This is dangerous and can result in a permanent ban from the theme parks.
In a TikTok, Guests caught them escaping off Hyperspace Mountain, and leaving. This is very dangerous and Guests should not try this.
Hyperspace Mountain is now operating as normal again.
Disneyland describes Hyperspace Mountain like this:
“Fend off cross fire from swarms of New Republic X-wing starfighters and Imperial TIE fighters amidst a galactic onslaught!
Your mission begins with a briefing from Admiral Ackbar: the New Republic needs help flying reconnaissance vessels to survey an Imperial Star Destroyer. After being escorted into hyperspace by an elite X-wing squadron, you arrive only to find the Star Destroyer waiting with a swarm of TIE fighters—it’s a trap!
As starfighter forces valiantly battle Imperial vessels, you’re caught up in a barrage of cannon fire. Maneuvers become more intense as you join the New Republic squadron for one final, courageous assault on the menacing Star Destroyer. It’s an epic Star Wars combat scene taken straight from the films—but hurry, Hyperspace Mountain is only open for a limited time!”
A Walt Disney World Character sent out a SOS signal to Cast Member after a costume malfunction.

Guests heading to Magic Kingdom can stroll down Main Street, U.S.A to spot Cinderella Castle. While at Magic Kingdom, Guests can enjoy iconic attractions such as Jungle Cruise, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, “it’s a small world,” Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and many more.
Over at EPCOT, Guests can learn about different cultures thanks to The World Showcase, which includes 11 different countries. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Guests can visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land. Guests can experience attractions such as Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, and Slinky Dog Dash. Finally, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park allows Guests to get up and personal with different animals or explore Pandora from Avatar.
With all of these Disney Parks, there’s no surprise that errors, delays, and malfunctions can happen at any time. Guests can experience delays while waiting in lines, at attractions, or meeting characters.
In a TikTok, Disney World Guests spotted Donald Duck signaling for help when he experienced a costume malfunction. Donald Duck takes off his hat to cover the malfunction and is helped away during the parade. He makes a quick return after fixing the malfunction.
Cast Members do their best to keep both the characters and the Guests safe.
The newest ship in the Disney Cruise Line Fleet, Disney Wish, is having a rough time. Its current voyage has been anything but smooth sailing as the ship encountered multiple problems. The issues began right away and did not get better as the journey went on. Reports state that this has been par for the course as Disney Wish seems to be encountering problems regularly.
To begin with, there were issues with embarkation. Computer issues delayed boarding, which, if you’ve ever cruised before you know that embarkation days are not the way anyone wants to begin their cruise. Boarding the ship is stressful enough without a backlog of people to wade through. There are reports that this same issue with computers preventing timely boarding occurred last Friday as well during a 3-night sailing.
Once everyone was on board, the shop was full steam ahead to Nassau…until it wasn’t. An undisclosed “technical issue” caused Wish to be delayed by several hours. No one knows what the issue was but passengers report that thrusters had to be used to keep the ship on course. Usually, the engine is enough to keep the ship headed in the right direction, thrusters only ever get used for setting sail and docking typically which suggests that Disney Wish is having engine problems.
Nevertheless, the ship was finally able to dock and guests on board were able to depart and enjoy a day in the Bahamas capital city! As far as the guests knew, all was going according to plan. Onboard though, the crew was living a much different reality. Crew members and mechanics were seen scurrying around the ship, presumably attempting to fix the technical issue that caused the delay.
When passengers arrived back on board, however, they were told that they were essentially stuck. The issues facing the ship had not been fixed and the ship would not be departing. Since there was no way to know when the ship would be able to leave, guests were not able to leave the ship. The ship remained docked overnight on Saturday rather than heading to Castaway Cay.
The ship was able to set sail finally at 11:00 am on Sunday but due to inclement weather, the planned Castaway Cay stop had to be canceled. Due to the very unorthodox sailing guests were compensated and the canceled fireworks were rescheduled.
We will keep a close eye on Disney Wish and watch to see if the issues facing the ship resolve. Disney Cruise Line is currently one of the most expensive companies to cruise with so we want our readers to be well informed of any potential pitfalls to expect before they hit the high seas with Mickey and Friends.
