Bob Chapek Responds to Criticism

In February 2020, popular Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger stepped down from his role as CEO and became the Executive Chairman of The Walt Disney Company. The Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products — Bob Chapek — took over the role of CEO and his tenure has been…rocky to say the least. Just one month after he became CEO, the COVID-19 pandemic forced all Disney theme parks, including Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, to shut down. All film and television production shut down as well, so Disney furloughed and laid-off thousands of Cast Members.

While dealing with a worldwide pandemic was the most difficult way to start as CEO that one could imagine, many feel Chapek has not done much since then to endear himself to Disney’s loyal fan base. Over the past couple of years, things seemed to have drastically changed in the eyes of Disney fans — the Parks are getting outrageously expensive, while the quality seems to be declining. A recent poll also shows that an overwhelming number of Guests feel that Disney “has lost its magic”.

Cinderella Castle at Night

Chapek has caught most of the fan’s ire for what is happening at Disney. In Disney circles, Chapek is seen as someone who is more focused on making money than making magic for Guests. This has led to petitions calling for Chapek to either resign or be fired.

Chapek recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter, and he was asked about being seen as “a guy who cuts costs and raises prices” and getting a lot of flack from those who call themselves “Disney superfans”. Chapek didn’t shy away from the question and said:

We love all our fans equally. We love the superfans, obviously. But we also like the fans that don’t have the same expression of their fandom. We want to make sure that our superfans who love to come with annual passes and use [the parks] as their personal playground — we love that. We celebrate that. But at the same time, we’ve got to make sure that there’s room in the park for the family from Denver that comes once every five years. We didn’t have a reservation system and we didn’t control the number of annual passes we distributed and frankly, the annual pass as a value was so great that people were literally coming all the time and the accessibility of the park was unlimited to them, and that family from Denver would get to the park and not be let in. That doesn’t seem like a real balanced proposition. I guess it’s possible that the superfans look at that as a disadvantaging of the way they consume the park, but we’ve got to make sure that not only are we heeding the needs of our superfans, but we’re heeding the needs of everyone who travels from across the country one time every five years. We have a real high-class problem: We have much more demand than there is supply. What we will not bend on is giving somebody a less than stellar experience in the parks because we jammed too many people in there. If we’re going to have that foundational rule, you have to start balancing who you let in. … Our ticket prices and constraints we put on how often people can come and when they come is a direct reflection of demand. When is it too much? Demand will tell us when it’s too much.

His answer may not be what fans of the theme parks want to hear. Chapek is basically saying that prices will drop when they notice a drop in theme park attendance — which will most likely be a sign that things are too expensive — but many can tell you that the Parks seem just as crowded as they were before the pandemic. Disney is also reporting record profits, but that has to be balanced out with the high prices that they are charging.

Even though Chapek might not be seen as very popular with the Disney fan base, he appears to be popular with Disney’s Board of Directors, which extended Chapek’s contract by 3 years this past June.

Tim Allen Questions ‘Santa Clause’

Via DisDining.com

It’s been over 15 years since we last saw Santa Claus and his family at the North Pole in the popular Disney Christmas franchise, The Santa Clause. If you’ve forgotten what the story is about, no worries, we’ve got you. The Santa Clause — which premiered in 1994 — told the story of Scott Calvin, a self-centered toy executive who accidentally scares Santa off of his roof and has to take over as the legendary Father Christmas.

Eight years later, The Santa Clause 2 came out, and Scott — who has since embraced his Santa job — must get married in order to remain Santa. Enter Carol — a no-nonsense high school principal — who falls for Scott’s charm and becomes Mrs. Claus. Four years after that, The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, showed Scott having to fight to become Santa Claus once again when the job is stolen by the willful and malicious (or is it skillful and delicious?) Jack Frost.

The Santa Clause Christmas movies are some of the most popular holiday movies Disney has ever done. That led to the early 2022 announcement that Disney would be releasing a new series on Disney+, following up with our favorite Christmas family in a new series called The Santa Clauses.

During the D23 Expo, the cast of The Santa Clauses sat down and spoke about the new series. During the panel, Tim Allen — who is the star of the series and plays Scott Calvin — asked a critical question that you may not have thought of before.

Why weren’t the elves concerned when Scott Calvin showed up as Santa Claus?

The Santa Clause

I’ll admit, I had never actually thought about it until Allen brought it up. It’s a great question. Tim Allen’s Santa Claus is very close to the elves, and in the trailer, you can see that they all get very upset when he announces that he is retiring. If the other Santa was as close to the elves, wouldn’t they be upset when he didn’t return? Even if he wasn’t super close to them, wouldn’t they have at least asked what happened?

The other Santa basically had to die for Scott to get the job, so you would think that maybe they would want to know how it happened.

The Santa Clause

According to Allen, the series will answer this question. Along with why Mrs. Claus doesn’t have a first name. Yes, her name in the world outside the North Pole is Carol, but Mrs. Claus doesn’t actually have a first name.

If you haven’t seen it yet, you can watch the trailer for The Santa Clauses below.

The Santa Clauses will premiere on Disney+ on November 16. The series will star Tim Allen as Scot Calvin/Santa Claus, Elizabeth Mitchell as Carol Calvin/Mrs. Claus, Kal Penn as Simon Choski, Austin Kane as Cal, Elizabeth Allen Dick as Sandra, Matilda Lawler as Betty, and Devin Bright as Noel. David Krumholtz will also return to the series in his role as Bernard.

Winnie The Pooh (and Tigger Too) Are Coming Back to Crystal Palace

We have some tiggerific news that’s going to have you bouncing for joy! Winnie the Pooh and Pals are coming BACK to Crystal Palace for breakfast!

Earlier this year we discovered that the Hundred Acre Wood gang would return on September 20, 2022 for lunch and dinner only and wondered what that meant for the character breakfast. It seems that Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and the gang just needed a little bit more time to wake up than usual. They’ll return a month later on October 25, 2022! Reservations for breakfast open September 22, 2022 at 6:00am EST (trust me, you’ll want to be up bright and early to make this dining reservation as soon as it becomes available because it will fill up quickly).

Winnie the Pooh and Friends have been missing from their iconic Crystal Palace location since the Parks reopened in 2020 after the Covid closure. The restaurant was, at first, reopened as a family style rather than a buffet and no characters were present. Once the buffet came back, we knew it was only a matter of time until our beloved “silly old bear” came back too and we are so excited that very soon he will.

The Crystal Palace gets our vote for some of the best eats at Walt Disney World and certainly one of our favorites at Magic Kingdom. This Victorian greenhouse inspired restaurant serves American fare buffet style and they do it very well. However, not only is it a buffet, it’s also a party! You’ll celebrate friendship day with some of the best Pals we know: Pooh, Piglet Tigger and Eeyore!

Disney Announces Release Dates For ‘Mufasa’, ‘Inside Out 2’, ‘Snow White’, and More!

Last week, Disney hosted the D23 Expo, the ultimate fan event. At the Expo, Disney hosted so many great panels that let Guests hear from casts of upcoming films and series like The Santa Clauses, as well as past hits like Encanto. In addition, Disney hosted a Disney and Pixar film panel — where cameras were not allowed — and they shared more info on upcoming films like Snow White and Inside Out 2. They also announced that some new series would be coming down the pike — like The Lion King prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King.

The D23 Expo may have ended, but that does not mean that the news has stopped coming. While Disney announced a number of projects at the Expo, most of them did not have release dates — until now. Disney waited until this week to officially announce their slate, which includes the pushing back of the highly anticipated live-action film, The Haunted Mansion. The movie — which will star Rosario Dawson, Tiffany Haddish, Danny DeVito, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jared Leto — was supposed to be released on March 10, 2023, but will now premiere on August 11, 2023.

Haunted Mansion Movie

After The Haunted Mansion, Disney will release its newest animated feature, Wish. Disney also shared that Pixar’s next film Elio — the story of a young boy who meets aliens — will be released on March 1, 2024. That will be followed up by the highly-anticipated, but also highly controversial, live-action remake, Snow White on March 22, 2024. Next up? Disney announced that Mufasa will be released on July 5, 2024.

Here’s what we know about Mufasa: The Lion King — it will show the future king as he washed away in a flood. Alone and struggling, Mufasa must find a new pride to become a part of. The film will show that Mufasa was not born into royalty, he learned it. The series will also feature the popular sidekicks, Timon and Pumbaa — who will once again be voiced by Billy Eichner and Seth Rogan.

As for Wish, the film will tell the story of Asha, who lives in the fairy tale kingdom called the Kingdom of Wishes. The film will show viewers the origin of the famous Wishing Star but, of course, not everything goes smoothly in this kingdom and Asha learns that there is a dark side to her idyllic home. West Side Story star Ariana DeBose will voice Asha.
