Disney’s Haunted Mansion (2023) will bring the spooks and scares you know and love from The Haunted Mansion at the Disney Parks to your hometown!
Jamie Lee Curtis stars Madam Leota alongside Jared Leto, confirmed at D23 Expo last night to portray The Hatbox Ghost! D23 attendees got a new-for-the-room only look at a trailer for the film, described by Deadline:
“A car pulls up to a mansion in the depths of night. The mansion, our narrator says, was discovered fully built after a fire in 1788. ‘That’s when things started to get weird,’ he continues, ‘[with] a string of dramatic events, paranormal attacks, yellow fever, explosions. There’s no records, only stories.’ We then follow a character played by Tiffany Haddish and a priest portrayed by Owen Wilson as they explore hidden areas of the darkly historic house with a group of kids, finding, behind a painting, a room that had ‘not been touched in centuries.’ The trailer also introduces us to a tour guide played by Lakeith Stanfield, with further flashes to characters played by Rosario Dawson, Danny DeVito and more.”
Cameos from Winona Ryder, Dan Levy, Hasan Minaj, and more were also announced.
Curtis appeared at D23 in a Doombuggy from The Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Park, silently whisking away director Justin Simien:
Simien shared a photo of his old Cast Member ID from Disneyland, where he loved to ride The Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean.
In 2023, Disney fans will meet Asha (Ariana DeBose), a 17-year-old girl whose wish calls down an adorable nonverbal star, aptly named “Star,” from the sky. Also starring Alan Tudyk as Valentino the goat and with an original song by Julia Michaels, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ WISH will share the origin of the wishing star.
At D23 Expo, Walt Disney Animation Studios revealed that WISH would premiere to celebrate 100 years of Disney animation. From journalist Scott Gustin:
Disney also shared a first look at Asha, Star, and Valentino:
Disney also shared another image from the film on Twitter:
Chris Buck, WISH‘s director, said the film will “take Easter Eggs to a new level.”
Few details are available about WISH, but Inside the Magic will continue to report about the film as we near its 2023 release date.
The Disney Legends Committee named a “secret agent” to its roster of 2022 Disney Legends, but the honoree died before he could accept the prestigious award.
Newscaster Paul Harvey hosted a radio program called “The Rest of the Story,” during which he endeavored to enlighten listeners about different viewpoints and additional details surrounding current events, news, topics of human interest, and more. It was successful because–truth be told–most people like to know more, rather than less.
After all, who doesn’t love a backstory?
During the first day of the 2022 D23 Expo held at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, thousands of Disney superfans who doubled as backstory lovers were served a real treat–the opportunity to be present as the Disney Legends Class of 2022 was honored during a ceremony that kicked off the Ultimate Disney Fan Event.
During the ceremony held in Hall D23 at the convention center in Anaheim, actors, actresses, and Imagineers were honored as the newest Disney Legends. But one honoree was neither an actor nor an actress. In fact, he wasn’t a celebrity at all. But his contributions to the Disney Empire are wholly responsible for the development of the Walt Disney World Resort in Central Florida.
His name was Robert Price Foster.
Foster began his Disney career in the 1950s, and per D23’s website, he was the man who carried out the task of securing land on which Walt Disney’s “Project X” would be built. Today, fans know the project by its more popular name: the Walt Disney World Resort.
[Foster] began at Walt Disney Productions in 1956, working in real property law and as a legal counsel for Disneyland. He later headed the property search and land acquisition for Walt Disney World and managed the legislative package that established the Reedy Creek Improvement District. In 1970, he was named president of the Buena Vista Land Company, which developed the 4,000-acre community of Lake Buena Vista. He left the company in 1975.
Walt Disney found the perfect spot for his new family park in the swamplands of Central Florida, but Foster knew that if Walt Disney’s name were any part of the transactions that resulted in acquiring the land on which to build the visionary’s newest project, the cost of that land would be, well, astronomical. So, instead of proposing to buy land from owners as Disney’s proxy, he transacted business using fictitious entity names, and in doing so, he saved Disney millions upon millions of dollars.
For his efforts and accomplishments, Foster was often called a “secret agent,” and his work yielded him a place of honor among the windows of Main Street, U.S.A., at Magic Kingdom.
And this year, he was also named among the list of honorees to receive the coveted title of Disney Legend.
On Friday morning, during the 2022 D23 Expo Disney Legends Ceremony, however, Foster was absent. As he had acted on behalf of Walt Disney so many years before, Foster’s daughter acted on his behalf, standing in for her father and graciously accepted the award.
During her acceptance speech, Robert Price Foster’s daughter shared stories of her father taking her and her friends to Disney World, and she talked about people referring to him as a “secret agent.” Sadly, however, she said that just after Foster was told he had been chosen as a Disney Legend, he passed away.
As Foster’s daughter accepted the award on her father’s behalf, she expressed her approval of the honor, saying that long before her father became a Disney Legend, he was first a legend to her.
Disney has confirmed that Tiana’s Palace will be coming to Disneyland Resort soon! Not only that, there will also be a shop accompanying the restaurant.
Unlike the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Park does not have a Liberty Square section. Instead, there is New Orleans Square, full of fun cuisine and jazz music. It is here where the restaurant and shop will be located.
New Orleans Square is also directly next to Critter Country — the area of the theme park that is home to Splash Mountain. Splash Mountain will close in 2023 and reopen in 2024 with a brand-new Princess and the Frog theme, so bringing Tiana’s Palace to Disneyland makes even more sense. The new Splash Mountain retheme will happen at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort and the ride will be called Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
Over one year ago, Disneyland Park closed its popular Dress Shop and began some major construction. As time went on, signs were posted outside the shop, indicating that something Princess and the Frog-themed was on the horizon. The signs read “Something new is cooking” and “Gumbo is the spice of life”. As you may know, Tiana’s father was famous for his gumbo.
At this time, details remain scarce on the new restaurant and shopping area. There are three other restaurants in New Orleans Square, so it will be interesting to see how Disney makes this one stand out against the others. However, it wouldn’t be Tiana’s palace without her famous beignets, so you know those will certainly be on the menu!
Disney just revealed the first look at a stunning addition coming to EPCOT along with the new ‘Moana’-inspired attraction.
Fans eagerly await to enjoy all the improvements and new experiences coming to Disney Parks worldwide. One of the most anticipated attractions is The Journey of Water, an immersive attraction inspired by Moana (2016) that will let Guests interact with magical, living water in a beautiful and inspiring setting.
This all-new attraction was announced in 2019 and would be the first attraction themed after Disney’s film Moana. The attraction is currently developing at EPCOT and is already showing significant progress. However, a breathtaking detail was just revealed as part of the coming D23 Expo announcements.
During a special media preview of the upcoming D23 Expo, Ashley Carter (@AshleyLCarter1) shared a few images of a breathtaking detail that will accompany this new attraction, a massive, 16-feet-tall Te Fiti model.
The scale model shows the incredible attention to detail that will go into realizing this attraction and talks about the different teams involved in creating this fantastic new addition, including Disney Imagineering and Walt Disney Animation Studios teams. The process of bringing this massive Te Fiti to life involved the exploration of the character’s pose, the color design of her figure, clay model conceptualization, sketching, and photo reference to study ways to represent Te Fiti protecting the water during its journey.
Per Disney’s information on this scale model:
Te Fiti represent life and the balance of nature. She will be seen protecting water as it voyages around the water cycle.
During this D23 Expo, Disney describes the Moana-inspired attraction as follows:
EPCOT-Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana
Journey of Water will immerse guests in a lush environment where the story of our global cycle of water is brought to life. As gusts explore the outdoor trail, they will be invited to play and interact with water as it travels from our skies, to our oceans and back again.
